He was and Earls wasn't much better whenever he has played there. He was also returning from injury. That said I wouldn't play either at 15.

Earls was a marked improvement on Fitzgerald when he played against England at the tale end of the 2011 Six Nations after Fitzgerald had been mediocre in the previous four matches and was only retained due to injuries to Kearney and Geordan Murphy

nope, Earls had a decent game against England at full back, the whole team did and it was one of Ireland's better performances under Kidney

In your opinion. the fact is that he was a marked improvement on Fitzgerald in that position 12 months ago.
I think he is most suited to the Left Wing at Internatioanl level but he has held his own at both 13 and 15.

Your opinion. He has not held his own at 13 or 15 IMO - nor is he Test class in those positions.

he appears to be a bit of a knob BE but surely this was harsh in the extreme, get the impression that despite the fact he is only there his face didnt really fit in Cardiff and that they were looking for an opportunity to get rid of him without having to pay up on his contract.

He is a knob but the circumstances of the sacking were very harsh. He was drunk like plenty of his team-mates and he was the only player severely punishedbocerty wrote:bald eagle wrote:Gavin Henson sacked by the Cardiff Blues with immediate effect.

Cardiff like the other welsh regions are cost cutting this season to prepare for the salarycap that comes into play next season so getting rid of him was an easy decision

surely as he was without a club and has only joined recently, the contract he got (considering Cardiff probably held all the aces given his previous behaviour) would have taken into consideration the salary cap.
I would say its more likely to be the fact that many of his team mates didnt particularly take to him too quick

Re: The Rugby Thread
Love to know where you put Luke v Keith after that weekend lads!
Leinster are an awesome outfit - the Barcelona of the rugby world with sublime touches. Munster winning 6/6 was the worst thing to happen to them - masked a lot of problems but in fairness they have been unlucky with injury and Howlett is a big loss. Ulster definitely number 2 in Ireland and if its an All Ireland final there will be only one winner.

Are you still going on about this? Leinster will struggle much more with that clermont defence.
Thought Gilroy showed more signs yesterday that he has the potential to become a class act on the wing, and zebo looked good on the ball too. Hard to judge between earls and fitz in fairness as earls came up against a strong defence, Cardiff were beaten before a ball was kicked.

Re: The Rugby Thread
Great performance by Leinster in the Bordeaux bear-pit!!! Kearney was awesome and what a drop. D'arcy continues to shine in the blue but not the green, Jonny was excellent and every man fronted up! Well done too to Ulster - not their greatest performance but making the final is all that matters and they will be better in the final - and will need to be.
Great to have an all Irish final!! Pity its not in the Aviva though!

Re: The Rugby Thread
I think I posted earlier on this thread that Munster winning 6/6 in the Heino group stages was the worst thing that happened to them in that it gave them a false sense of well-being. They have been very unlucky with injuries - POC and Jones for y'day and Flannery and Wallace hanging up their boots during the season. O'Leary moves on (no huge loss) as does Mafi and Mick O'D retires. Munster are way off the mark now and Penney may well have been scratching his head last night. The game has moved on hugely in the last 2/3 years and even the winning HC Munster teams may not have done so under current rules. They are going to have to reinvent themselves in many ways!

Winning 6/6 did gloss over some issues but itwasnt the worst thing that could have happened to us.Parouisa wrote:I think I posted earlier on this thread that Munster winning 6/6 in the Heino group stages was the worst thing that happened to them in that it gave them a false sense of well-being. We have been quite unlucky with injurys but there appears to be some issues behind the scenes with regard to fitness/conditioning etc(look to a former strength+condit coach taking munster to court this week)
Munster are in a big transitional period and giving the circumstances, Penney is the perfect man for the job considering the regular turnover in players he would have in canterbury every year and dispite that he's been very successful with them
We do need to reinvent ourselves, and we have to do it from the grassroots up

What a weekend ahead with THE premier European sporting event taking place in Twickenham. BOD will be fine as will Darcy and Healy. If they match Ulster's pack they have more class in the backs and hopefully this will see them home!

Anyone donning the wax jacket and heading to Twickers? Would love to have headed over but an 11.00 am appointment with the man above's showaddywaddy, a gal in a white dress and a visit to the Sahara Plains look to be on the cards instead.
Heineken, with their Star Saturday have really fooked up with their No 1 Irish customer here and he is less than impressed. I knew about this a long while out so the least they could have done was rang (or texted) to check my availability before lumping the Heino Cup and, to a lesser extent, the Champs League together on the one Saturday when my hands are tied tighter than Terry Waite's.
Not hugely impressed ....
