Re: Meath vs Dublin
The 2 minutes at the end was ridiculous, Davoren was down for about 3 minutes and then you had 6 subs. I think peoples criticisms of the game are harsh. The first half wasn't too bad. Having said that the end of the second half petered out a bit. It was a close game which made it exciting at times.

Re: Meath vs Dublin
Meath should feel very hard done by. They were in the ascendancy when they referee blew it up after only 2 minutes additional time.
Overall some parts of the game were actually ok but by and large it was poor.
I think Meath need to unearth a new Ollie Murphy/Graham Geraghty/Trevor Giles type who can lift Meath in a game or who will lead a team to victory when they have the opposition on the ropes.
Whelan and Sherlock were great men to spring from the bench for Dublin but I think it backfired when it was McConnell and B. Brogan who were taken off.
In general, the game didn't live up to the hype at all. Despite the 75k + attendance the atmosphere was very flat which matched the 2 teams.
A lot of improvement needed by both teams. No-one will fear Meath in qualifiers and Wicklow/Westmeath wont fear meeting Dublin.
As a Leinster person i can only hope the standard improves before people go as far as lauding Connaught

Re: Meath vs Dublin
This sub thing for extra time is not like soccer - the lad runs on and gives the ref a slip of paper - there is no 30 second rule for subs like soccer. Even the Sunday Game were going on about it. Having said that 2 mins was crazy but there was only the Davoren injury which was 3 mins and the ref played about 2 mins 40 so its not a big deal.
At least there was no feigning injury and time wasting like you get in Uls .......

If Armagh play like that in Ulster then they deserve to lose Todays game made Fermanagh and Cavan look interestingJayo Cluxton wrote:Administrator wrote:Sorry,

Re: Meath vs Dublin
Right - very difficult to analyse that one. I would have to say that if I was a Meath supporter I possibly would've been happier leaving the ground. They definitely got more out of their lads than Gilroy got out of his.
Dublin should have been about 15 points up at half time - should. The decision making / shot selection / movement in the final third of the pitch was atrocious. Why does this happen to Dublin teams so often? How can they play like this and maybe score 3-18 next time out. So frustrating. The only time Dublin put the hammer on a team and kept it there for 70 minutes was last year's Leinster Final.
Meath are a very limited side yet they got within two points. And they scored 12 points! What would Tyrone or Kerry have scored?
And if I hear this old "well Meath will always put it up to you stuff" (from Gilroy etc) again I'll explode! You might as well say Cavan are a great side cos they won 8 Ulster titles in the 30s! Meath are not a patch on previous sides - thats a present day fact - I am sick to f***ing death of Dublin players/ management talking them up. With absolutely no offence to Loyal or any other Meath fan - but to me it smacks of mental weakness.
I am not one bit impressed tonight ....

Go on back to bed there then. You haven't anything meaningful to contribute here.

Re: Meath vs Dublin
From a Dublin perspective the most worrying thing for me is the distinct lack of intelligence in the team - especially up front.

Re: Meath vs Dublin
I was at this game.
Some terrible finishing by the Dubs, and Meath lacked belief and gave away some poor scores by over playing the ball at the back.
Dreadful referee, and there should have been about 6 minutes "stoppage" time.
However it was a less "cynical" game than Ulster would see. At one stage Moyles was involved in a move about 4 times the length of the field. In Ulster he would have been clothes lined after the first pass.
It was quite exciting at times, merely due to the closeness.

Wasnt much to analyse loyal. Not getting at either team, have often said Meath are my second favourite team, also like the Dubs. I take no pleasure in seeing either team serve up a game like that. The reality is it was a very poor game and neither team will do anything worth talking about in the championship this year. Sorry if the truth hurts

Re: Meath vs Dublin
some points i would raise on this match,
1. the ref marty duffy is terribleed it big time wuith the breannan incedent in the first half, he swung a puch at a meath player he should have walked. end off.
2. there should have been more than 5 minutes injury time.!!
3. meath are poor and physcally weak the main reason they lost imo.
4. the dubs need to sort there full back line out big time. bastic was new to full back he should have had 2 expierenced corner backs to help him along.
5. why oh why was c.king left at full forward for meath when they so badly need a CHB??
6. 17 wides!!! woefull shooting.
7. dublin need to sort out there static fulll forward line. keaney is far to gready and will cost them any hopes of an all-ireland, b. brogan is far to wastefull, deveron i wish a speedy recovery.
8. where was the passion? the fight? the hits?
while i have outlined my thoughts on the match what i will say is that the dubs are loving all this right now, think about it. for years if the dubs where bigged up everywhere as contenders for sam now after a quiet league and a poor showing against meath now nobody will think they will do anything at all, remember that if they had scored half of there 17 wides they would have beaten meath by 10 points and everyone would be talking about how great they are!!!!!
but in truth thats me putting a very positive spin on the game yesterday!!!!
