Re: Euro 2012 Thread
I would have O'Shea at left full with his laces tied together before I'd have Killer.

Kilbane did very little wrong under Trap at left back. Strong in the air and solid defensively, Bulgaria were the only side to have much joy down our left. Would much rather someone else make a go of the position but I wouldn't be jettisioning him for the sake of it til we have an decent alternative. Moving O'Shea from right back would be a poor decision.

Your opinion. Kilbane while a great servant has been a liability for years now. To say he has done very little wrong for Trap is a bit baffling. Did he become a better player under this manager? I have seen him have many bad games under Trap.

Please cite a few examples where he was terrible in a defensive sense.
He may not be much of an option on the ball or in an attacking sense but defensive stability is the main attribute we need in a left full and he is still as good if not better than any of the alternatives at this point in time

Jeeze they really are too numerous to mention. Really. You would appear to have a completely different view of football than mine.

Re: Euro 2012 Thread
Jeez, this Parouisa newbie is tiresome, advocating the jettonising of a great servant like Kevin Kilbane in favour of literal unknowns.
For once in his time here Pukey is on the money, should Ireland qualify for this tournament, then Kilbane must be in the squad....

Great start. Walters playing very well. Looks like there could be more goals there for the taking.

Re: Euro 2012 Thread
We were one up into the second half and a man up but were under severe pressure. Richard Dunne got his foot to a low free from the left and it could have gone anywhere but just cleared the post for a corner. It could easily have been 1-1. If it went in I reckon we'd have been hanging on for the draw but instead we go up the other end shortly after for 2-0. Small margins, small margins.

Re: Euro 2012 Thread
Well done Trap. Hard to believe a team with Given, St. Ledger, Ward, Hunt, Andrews, Doyle and Whelan in it's starting team, and McGeady, Kelly, O'Dea, Cox and Walters has qualifed for a major tournament. Though when the opposition is as mediocre as us, anything is possible.
Here is the Irish team I'd like to see at Euro 2012:
Shay Given
Seamus Coleman - Richard Dunne - John O'Shea - Ciaran Clark
Darron Gibson - James McCarthy - Wes Hoolahan
Damian Duff - Leon Best - Robbie Keane
Hard to look past the Germans and the Spanish though.

So here's the 16 teams - this is how I would rank them.
Spain - Germany - England - Holland
France - Italy - Russia - Czech Republic
Greece - Croatia - Ukraine - Denmark
Ireland - Sweden - Poland - Bosnia/Herzegovina/Portugal
Is this the Group of Debt: Spain, Italy, Greece, Ireland?

A few years ago I'd have been celebrating my head off. Am totally indifferent now but good to see an Irish team get to the Euros again after 24 years. Have a feeling we are in for some thumpings though.

These yokes are going to be in fierce demand after the Christmas as hordes of un-employed Irish reverse the role on the denizens of Poland.

I can't see Ireland getting thumped against anybody other than Spain or Germany - we are stubborn like that.
We'll be 4th seeds I'd say? So surely our best hope is to target the 3rd seeds for a win, and keep the top two teams scoreless.
An attck of Ozil, Muller, Kroos, Gotze and Gomez would do damage.

Bets being hedged
Flights booked to Berlin €150 - camper van hired €1200 for 10 days
We will cross the Polish border from Germany which I don't think has been done before.
If we end up in the Group thats in the far side of Ukraine- attendance at any of the soccerball may be an afterthought

A. The Donegal managers job or
B. The vacancy in the Donegal half back line.......

As far as I know this is a harder competition to progress in than the World Cup. At the WC you could get a country that qualified from the Oceanic region for example and we may possibly beat them and quarry out the usual 0-0 draw somewhere else and possibly progress.
The current crop, bereft of any real talent, are unlikely to become an overnight threat to anyone apart from the livers of those who follow their adventures at home or abroad....
A great boost for the country....

Re: Euro 2012 Thread
Seeds likely as follows -
Pot One: Poland, Ukraine, Spain, Holland
Pot two: Germany, Italy, England, Russia
Pot three: Croatia, Portugal, Greece, Sweden
Pot four: France, Denmark, Czech Republic, Republic of Ireland
Who would you like in our group?
I wouldn't mind Poland, England, Greece! England simply for the derby factor and that i think we could get a result and the others for the fact i think we could beat them!
