Maybe he just left Cavan cos the hurling standard ain't there - not as good as Kildare like. I think McGeeney is not getting enoough stick over this btw. Quite obvious he's driving it. C'mon the Royals - and anyone else who play Kildare this year.

Or straggled into the Abbey Bar in the historical village, victorious or deflated, where new blood and fresh money are always welcome...
The draw would create mighty banter across the newly formed constituency, where we're forced to align with recalcitrants ranging from Glangevlin almost to Arva.....Worse again, hoors from the Corlough enviorns... affraid

St. Pat's in to the Rannafast Final. Spurred on by the fantastic Ryan Connolly from Drumlane who notched 2-06.

The U21's from the West, Shannonport, beat a dogged Mullahorn side last Sunday. Good win considering a fair few of the Mullahorn lads have won U21 Ulster medals and Senior Championship in the last year.

On the subject of Cavan football .......

A stoppage time goal from Castledermot corner forward Eugene Mahon grabbed the SFL Division 2 title right from St Kevins’ grasp in a rather fiery affair in Kilcullen last Saturday afternoon, writes Eoin Beatty.

Kildare Senior Football League Division 2 Final

Castledermot: 1-11

St Kevin’s: 1-9

The last minute goal plus an insurance point from the boot of the Intermediate Championship’s top scorer, Paddy Mahon rounded off what was a relatively successful year for the men from the south of the county.

Castledermot came close to reaching the IFC semi final only to be beaten by JTB in a replay at the quarter final stage. They did however, manage promotion to Division 1 and with victory over St Kevin’s in the League Final last weekend, they added silverware to go with it.

As for Kevin’s, they experienced a season of contrast. The future seemed to be bright as they too earned promotion to the top tier of league football. However they only rescued their Senior Championship status by the skin of their teeth, edging past Round Towers in the Relagation Final following 3 consecutive defeats.

It was a fiery encounter but in a fair and sporting manner. There was no real malice or intent from either side, just 2 teams determined and passionate about bringing home The Jerome Casey Memorial Cup.

Castledermot were quickest out of the blocks and had there noses in front with merely one minute gone through a point from the ever reliable Paddy Mahon.

Kevin’s to their credit, did step up to the mark and soon found themselves to be in the lead, First Barry Noone equalised with a point similar to his opposite number 14, before Noone himself rattled the back of Paul Murphy’s net from the penalty spot after Jason Brosnan had been fouled.

The two sides then exchanged points before the half time break with the pick of the bunch coming from Seanie Johnston.
The scoreline at the interval reflected the opening period fairly with the two sides level at 1-4 to 0-7 respectively. However, the second half would display some controversy.

Just as had been the case in the first 30 minutes, there was little to choose between the two. Castledermot once again nudged themselves in front with a 45’ from Paddy Mahon.

Seanie Johnston and Barry Noone, arguably St Kevins’ best players on the day did all the scoring for their side in the second half and linked up well throughout. Had it not been for Johnston’s accuracy and Noone’s strength, Kevin’s would have found it very difficult to break down the Castledermot defence.

As the game entered the last ten minutes, tensions were flaring both on the sideline and on the pitch. At this stage, the men in black and red were beginning to pull away and the momentum seemed to be swinging in their favour. 2 more points from Noone and Johnston respectively fixed them firmly in the driving seat with a two point cushion.

As any other team would when losing a final in the last couple of minutes, Castledermot began piling men forward with an all out attack mentality and eventually it paid off. Emmet O’Keefe peeled away from his marker and aimed to send the ball over the bar, only to see his effort ricochet off the post, however Eugene Mahon was on hand to fire the ball home into the empty net.

It was then another Mahon, this time Paddy who would all but secure the famous victory for Castledermot with his 7th point of the game to ensure his side would re-enter Division 1 Football in style.

So we go to Navan this weekend in our first competitive game against The Royals in a few years. Keating is back to fitness apparently so it will be interesting to see if Terry will put Givney back to midfield or whether he will stay with him at full forward. Kevin Tierney (our U21 star from last year) is also available and could be called on to replace the suspended Martin Dunne.
Any sort of result will be hard come by in Navan, but we will have taken confidence from the Monaghan performance and we have been a lot tighter in defence this year so far. Meath have better players than us overall and are more accustomed to playing at a higher level so a massive performance is needed to get a win.

Great win tonight! Blitzed Meath in the first half and rode out the revival in the second. Puts us in a position where we could get promoted and another win should see us safe. Well done to all involved.

Meath in disarray but that aside great result for Cavan. Based on reports ive seen they steamrolled them in first half. Certainly the most cause for optimism that cavan have had for several years.

Last year an Offaly team in disarray came to Breffni and beat us without too much fuss. Meath may be in trouble but would still be considered a level above Cavan. Early days but genuine reasons for optimism seem to be appearing. I said at the beginning of the year that survival would be an achievement for this team, they could potentially go one step further but a long way to go yet.

Not by anyone who has any knowledge of the game. A good win for Cavan, but everyone hammers Meath nowadays. There will be sterner tests in the weeks to come for this young (and, to be fair, improving) Cavan side. Still, promotion should be the aim, as you are well capable of it.

Two great wins today that show the progress that's being made under Hyland.

The Minors have been awful this year, their last game was a 19 point loss to Antrim but fair play to them for digging out a result today. Most impressive for me were Greg McGovern from Swad, (same club as G McKiernan) a massive man, caught loads of ball and worked his socks off. Barry Fortune did very well in defence mopped up loads of ball and used it well. Up front David Brady was outstanding. Only a small lad but he fought like a tiger and won all sorts of ball. Liam Galligan in corner forward was very smart. Made some great runs and won frees, light lad but a real touch of class.

The Senior result was a great one. I'm still in complete shock that Armagh allowed Keating and Dunne so much space. If anything, it's worrying we didn't score more. Keating is an excellent player, showed it in the first round v Donegal last year and did it again today, he even came out to midfield and did some of the dirty work when the pressure was on in the second half. Dunne got the headlines but Keating was just as impressive for me. As for Dunne himself, well he kicked some lovely scores but he will never ever have an easier game at this level. He had nothing to worry about apart from winning his individual battle which he did so in great style.
McDermott, Clarke, F. Flanagan and Mackey were also impressive today I thought. McLoughlin had a tough time against Clarke but everyone has a tough time against Clarke and he did end up scoreless although he perhaps should have been awarded his goal.

All the lads played well in fairness, Rory Dunne will have nightmares about that missed pick up for the Armagh goal but thankfully it didn't cost us in the end.

Midfield is a worry. We got hammered in there and won little to no clean ball. Gearoid is such a miss, but Givney had one of his better days in a Cavan shirt and there's more to come from him. Hopefully the 4 week break will give Corr a chance to regain fitness but realistically he's not going to add much quality.

Fermanagh will be a very tough game now. They beat us in the League and it will be much more of a war of attrition that today was. But Fermanagh are Fermanagh. We are probably at a very similar level and it's a winnable game.

Bah... Fermanagh have upset the apple cart a few times in recent years. 2010 Championship they turned us over in the first round. This year they beat us in Breffni in a game that would have set us up nicely for promotion. Barry Owens stamped on Ronan Flanagan in that game and should have seen a long ban for it. Things could get tasty on June 19th if he's sent out to put the shackles on Hugene...
As for the supporters, their noisiness around Ballyconnel and Swanlinbar in 2006 and 2008 will not be soon forgotten. I wouldn't like to see them win the coin toss.

The Minors, complete with 7 West Cavan starting players, go to Clones to meet the Fermanagh Minors tomorrow evening. Expect Ryan Connolly and Tom Hayes to be at the forefront. Can't remember the last time we lost to Fermanagh underage and this really is a game we should be winning relatively comfortably. But with our current management, anything is possible.
