Re: National Hurling League Divisions 1 & 2
The worst game of hurling I have seen in a long time today in Ennis, wasn't helped by a whistle happy ref and a very heavy pitch either.....Limerick were soild if unspectacular and thanks to an early goal were always able to keep Clare at arms length....You can see O'Grady mark on the team already, their half backline physically dominated and just laid the ball off to two very mobile midfielders who were the best two players on the field......But in saying that, their forwards are pedestrian at best and given the platform their half backline and midfield gave them and that it was probably the flattest, uninspiring performance from a Clare side that I can remember it doesn't bode to well for them either.......
Antrim and Laois have nothing to fear from either side

On todays evidence you would have every right to make such a claim......Hope it is a once off but the management looked all at sea today

Re: National Hurling League Divisions 1 & 2
Very disappointing result from a Clare perspective alright but the retirements of Carmody and Griffin, and emigration of BOC, mean the whole nucleus of the team is made up almost entirely of the All-Ireland u21 winning team. Sparrow has work cut out in the seasons ahead.
Is the new Limerick goalie, Nicky Quaid, any relation of past Quaids, Joe or Tommy?
EDIT: Found out - Son of Tommy Quaid, he must be good.

Re: National Hurling League Divisions 1 & 2
Couldnt believe laois hammered westmeath but its early days, clare relflected poorly, we gave a good honest work like performance and down toppled carlow, was some strange results, laois and clare game truely shocked me.
Big shout out to Derry in division three, they for the last couple of years have been slowly falling behind armagh in the ulster pecking order, their convincing win over them yesterday should boost confidence and give gerard rogan a good start to the year. Be nice if they could make division two and join antrim and down (hope we get promoted though LOL)
Felt sorry for cavan, great for fermangh but that scoreline helps no one and the work going on in promoting cavan hurling will be damaged by results like this and strengthen the pushers for regional teams as mentioned in another thread.
As for division one? who cares lol

Re: National Hurling League Divisions 1 & 2
Some interesting games lie ahead this weekend....Tipp Dublin is very hard to call, 2 to 9 looks like it will Tipp's starting team come championship but wouldn't have much faith in the forwards they have picked to put up a score...Kilkenny and galway will have routine wins, Wexford surely will put up a bit of a fight to Waterford.....
Antrim and Clare will be a dogged affair and there won't be more than 3 points in it

yet again i am right when it comes to hurling matters.....
Clare 2-14 Antrim 2-13....Clare led by 10 points at one stage in the first half while playing with a stiff breeze but Antrim pulled them back and the nordy ref did his best to keep antrim in the game....

Re: National Hurling League Divisions 1 & 2
Antrim really should play with Samurai swords such is the kamikaze nature of the team.
They were about 11 down, and with twenty minutes to go had pulled it back to one point when a Clare lad was dismissed. So one behind, with an extra man and a gale force wind, should have won by an easy six.
Beat again.
And dear God who was the ref? he gave woeful decisions against both teams.

Was a derryman, not sure of his name....Going by the radio, the big lad ye had at full forward, Carson and Carl Stewart were the pick of the Antrim Players...

Re: National Hurling League Divisions 1 & 2
Puke, northern referees hate antrim, been known to rob them at any given chance especially one from armagh who i wont name!
Was good for antrim today, given the missing goal keeper, key half back and key half and best player in the squad, if we are still as good as a quarter finalist, like last year im happy.
Not be too worried in defeat.
Going by what i said about limerick, they are starting to show their div1 credentials and status, look to be powering through the division.
Again big shout to ger rogan and derry winning in newbridge by 4, not easy for any team in div 1 or 2 going to new bridge, derry are flying fair play, looking forward to an exciting ulster championship.

Smashing result for carlow, excellent at racking up the points, Down can take heart from this although they went down to an ever improving kerry this week.
Good weekend for games, with no one really running away apart from Limerick.

Great win for Dublin - Keaney is a real asset to the team. Thats two years in a row beating Tipp in the League! Well on the way to staying in Div 1 I hope.

Re: National Hurling League Divisions 1 & 2
Could galway be peaking too early? 2 years ago in the munster final tipp were class but then slipped back into the background but then this year rubbish in munster stages and then went on to win it out. Not the most convinced at over-analysing statistics but surely there must be some trend with county teams?

We play laois this weekend, you never know what laois will show up especially down there, i think if we are to improve on last year we need a win but i wouldnt be surprised in defeat, hope we can do it, would set up a nice home fixture with limerick a couple of weeks later!
