Cuts are needed across the board only a simpleton or worse,
Only a complete simpleton could honestly believe that.
EVERY economist in the world advises AGAINST drastic cuts.
And there is NO recession, because there is NO shortage of money.O'Google paid 100 million tax in Ireland last year instead of 2.6 BILLION.
And there is lots more where that came from. Gas in the sea of the coast of Mayo? Get the Guarda to baton Shell who are trespassing and get it out for the country. I am sure it would not be too difficult to HIRE staff who could do thisw, for the benefit of Ireland rather than Shell.
Now once you collect unpaid taxes, further tax the super rich, education will be free and the state could give students GRANTS. Alas while 95% of the wealth is owned by 5% of the people that is not possible.
In GB a ONE OFF 2% tax on the 10% wealthiest wipes out all the debt overnight.
Mind you, some poor ******* is going to have to live on 2.5 billion net for a while, couldn't have that.
The simpletons would object.

Re: Student Wasters
Police were created in most states for one thing, to protect the interests of the rich.
They do that. Now I am not up to date with the law of trespass in Ireland but in GB it doesn't really exist. If a burglar is in my house and the faulty chandelier falls on his head, he can sue me? If I was to use force to remove him, I face jail as well as being sued.
I don't think the law of trespass is much different in Ireland.
Now I know that protests can be hijacked by noisy elements from small left wing groups. So what do we do? Baton them, adding to their claim that all states are fascist?
What usually happens is that the police baton the nearest people, who are usually innocent bystanders.
Back in 1968 the situation in N.Ireland made world news because RUC men were seen to be batoning a peaceful protest in Derry. One incident where a protester was asking a question and was "Judased" by a peeler flashed around the world as an example of the corrupt state in N.Ireland.
In Dublin I assume they thought he deserved it, for trespassing on her Majesty's Highway?
Croppy lie down indeed.

Lets take gas exploration. We may well have vast natural resources ... but it takes a whack of money to find out and another whack of money to extract. Ah sure jaysus just go down to the Nth Dublin dole queues and sign up a few lads - they'll pipe it to your house in no time.

Not too often i say this but well said Pat.
Seems to me we have a good few FF voters on here who will do anything to protect the state! What happened to the socialist element lads?
The drastic cuts are simply to secure the long term power of those currently in government.
No i wasnt comparing my door job to that of the gardai, what im merely saying is if anyone lifts thjeir hands or batons you will face consequences! In a place called which is the peoples republic surely these people robbing from the people of the nation should be held accountable and those protecting them face punishment also!

I am not sure if Japan, South Korea, Malayasia and China went down to the dole queue to become economic powers.
they simply told foreign investors that they would control them, the country control the company, rather than company controlling the country.
as they still stood to make vast prifits, the companys usually went along.
Mind you, the people in the far east don't wear caps, so the practice of going cap in hand to the superior foreigner never caught on.

Protesting in China? A doddle.
You see Galway lads might look at videos of Timmamen Square and believe all that USA/Brit propaganda, and think "wow" that's scary!!!!!
But compared to people actually really shooting you dead in the Bogside, or on a London tube if you are a Brazilian going to work, a complete doddle.

'Timmamen' Square might well be a doddle but thousands were killed protesting in Tiananmen Square back in 89 Pat,USA/Brit propaganda notwithstanding. Maybe you missed it because you were too busy chaining yourself to some bikestand on the Lisburn Rd.
As for Jean Charles de Menezes, he was murdered in Stockwell Tube St, what's your point?

Now, resorting to the use of scurrility, and appealing to the rest, is hardly a ringing endorsement of your lack of argument.
I pointed out that living in Ireland, where you get imprisoned if you object to foreigners takig over your land to drill for oil, is hardly much better for human rights as China.
And the Chinese at least know a little about business and standing up to foreigners who try to dupe them.
Ireland has been raped and plundered for years as foreigners pay off a few officials to ensure their companies can take every thing OUT of the country.
What do they put in? A few jobs for a couple of locals for a few years. hardly a good deal.
Look up and see how the countries in the far east managed to prosper. Japan simply adopted the feudal farming system to the modern day, where even the worst off can have a standard of living. This reduced crime and created equality which gave all a better quality and a longer life.
The most unequal societies in the world? US of A, Republic of Ireland, United Kingdom.............
Which countries have the most crime and problems .......same three.
Now Moss, instead of talking gibberish and trying to appear to be popular like a Fianna fail Gombeen man, give me a reasoned argument.

Moss, having a battle of wits with you is cruel, as you are unarmed.
Tactics such as "showing you up" and the like, all tried and failed over the past 43 years or so.
I am a protester, from Orgreave Pit to Bloody Sunday, I was there. Now you started a wind up thread about students protesting, but alas to some protest is a serious matter.
Making jokes about protesters, be they students in Dublin or whatever, is an INSULT to all the protesters of the past, be they in Tinnamen Square, Grosvenor Square, the Bogside or Kent State University.
Now when in a hole I suggest you stop digging.

I was off watching "Match of the Day" instead of Tinnamen square.
At least it is the "working men's" game.
The "sport of kings" holds little interest for me.
Seriously, I am interested in most sports, badminton, squash, croquet, the lot, but horse racing totally bores me. I remember arguing in the pub one day as some of us wanted to watch the cricket, which a racing fan declared to be boring.
so we turned over to look at the hats at ladies day at Royal Ascot.
Fascinating.
There is too much faffing about between races for me.

Re: Student Wasters
Right, so the colleges of Ireland need money badly?
An indiscriminate increase in the registration fee of €1500 is not the way to solve this problem.
Increasing the registration fee or lowering /scrapping the third level grant will be entirely counter productive. This will prevent students from less affluent backgrounds (like me and many others) from graduating due to the steep costs involved. On average graduates earn more than non graduates - so if the State invests in a student's education, it can expect to earn multiples of the initial investment in future tax revenues.
I believe this can in part be paid for by charging privately educated students full tuition fees.
The State subsidises all courses in the country regardless of a person's financial circumstances. These fees range from €5000 for an Arts course up to €10,000 for Medicine or Engineering at my university - similar to that of the fees charged at Private schools (which are all state subsidised). 27,000 Irish children are currently educated through the private system at secondary level.. If parents are willing to pay thousands of euro for eduction at that level, they can afford to pay for full university tuition fees - Simple.
