The Fianna Fail party has just announced an agreement whereby English will be the official language of the European Union rather than German, which was the other possibility.
As part of the negotiations, the Irish Government conceded that English spelling had some room for improvement and has accepted a 5- year phase-in plan that would become known as "Euro-English".
In the first year, "s" will replace the soft "c". Sertainly, this will make the sivil servants jump with joy. The hard "c" will be dropped in favour of "k". This should klear up konfusion, and keyboards kan have one less letter.
There will be growing publikenthusiasm in the sekond year when the troublesome "ph" will be replaced with "f". This will make words like fotograf 20% shorter.
In the 3rd year, publik akseptanse of the new spelling kan be expekted to reach the stage where more komplikated changes are possible.
Governments will enkourage the removal of double letters which have always ben a deterent to akurate speling.
Also, al wil agre that the horibl mes of the silent "e" in the languag is disgrasful and it should go away.
By the 4th yer people wil be reseptiv to steps such as replasing "th" with "z" and "w" with "v".
During ze fifz yer, ze unesesary "o" kan be dropd from vordskontaining "ou" and after ziz fifz yer, ve vil hav a reil sensibl riten styl.
Zer vil be no mor trubl or difikultis and evrivun vil find it ezi TU understand ech oza. Ze drem of a united urop vil finali kum tru.
Und efter ze fifz yer, ve vil al be speking German like zey vunted in ze forst plas.

I am coming around to thinking that as a nation we are only happy when we are miserable. The downtrodden psyche is ingrained in us and we are only happy when we are on the floor. The CT years were an aberration. Too much money and nothing to bitch about. Negativity is our bag .... our forte. We love it when we are moaning like **** and giving it all the poor me's. Haiti is rotting with cholera - some states in Africa are riddled with aids/starvation, in Asia there is mass poverty. Here its a crisis if you have to sell the second 4x4 - ****ing BS thats what it is. Reality check needed all round.

Reminds me Jayo of a statement from a former Taoiseach about those who complained and point out facts would be better off committing suicide. Reality it is the people who will pay for the corruption of our 'betters' never had even one 4 x 4 or a 2 x 2, or a 1 x 1. Classed 'negative approach' to those who pointed out reality in the so called Celtic Donkey era, which very few gained any real benefit from.

Bad news
We are about to go cap in hand to Brussels looking for the mother of all dig outs. We are so more fooked than we ever realized, now our very sovereignty is at stake. This country's greed and spending spree over the last few years could bring down the whole euro and God only knows what else. Things are so bad there is even talk of introducing a tax on betting
Good news
Pat Kenny's tie

I wonder is this like when you go out on the absolute rip on Sunday night at college which flows into Monday and you wake up sometime Tuesday with the mother of all hangovers, no food, no money, the house in a state and you're thoroughly ashamed of yourself but by that evening you're saying "Fook it, totally worth it"

Joking aside Pizza businesses are supposed to become more profitable in a recession as people replace
eat out with takeaway and the franchisee model seems to work well in this sector.
The issue here is the exact same as with "O briens sandwich bars" is that the holding company organises the rent itself and charges the franchisee for food, supplies and the brand as opposed to a more simple model where the franchisee takes the rental risk.
Former is all very well when things are good but once rent values fall the company holding the lease suddenly has 30 problems and needs to renegotiate the leases which is far too difficult if you have 30 arguments. If the local trader has the lease he will negotiate as if his life dependened on it - because it almost does.
You can understand the franchise owner wanting to ensure that there is consistency in premises and location but in reality they should do that as a condition of granting the franchise - but whats clearly happended is that they felt they could gain a margin on subleasing - rising tide raises all boats
Sadly like most problems in Irish business there is saying "stick to the Knitting" which becomes ever more apt.
Should be Ok for someone though - reason for examinership is to allow them reduce the lease costs
so either they do it or the receiver will - In either case I'd say the jobs and our pizzas will pervail

Hypothetical Scenario:
An individual, who accumulated a sum of US Dollars a few months ago, is considering to convert the money into a different currency.
Would this individual be wise to convert the monies into Euro now, or wait for the Euro to de-value as a result of Irish and Portuguese bailouts?
... Or perhaps into Yuan?

Dear All,
I hate economics as a subject, always did, and know little about it.
But I (CAPITAL) knew you could not get out of a recession by making savage cuts, and I said so, as did EVERY economist in the world. It causes a double dip recession, I am good at history and FDR and the new deal and all that.
So I hate to say I told you so, but, I told you so.
You get what you vote for.

It is to do with being "bitches" to the uSA and British way of life, especially in regard to economics and work practice.
The rest of the world, employers and unions, CONSULTATION, instead of what we get CONFRONTATION.
Rest of the so called civilised world doing ok, Ireland, USA and Britain, ok if you are one of the 5% mega rich.
As I say you get what you vote for, especially lemmings like yourself Moss.
Ye were told, and told and told and TOLD and TOLD but because it was the unions doing the telling no one listened.
You reap what you sew.
And, I told ye.
But there is a solution. If ye have the balls for it.

Yeah they are really big on consultation in China - the fastest growing economy in the world - and employee conditions across India, Pakistan etc are excellent. Consultation is also the preferred choice all across Russia and its former Soviet republics ....

Individuals should be in control of their own financial situation - greed was rampant throughout the country, not just amongst politicians and bankers. Hang them certainly, if you must, but then put the noose around the neck of Joe Public as well.

TC. It was not Joe Public who brought down the banks resulting in our present crisis. It was the greed of bonus seeking bankers + developers with the aid of the professional bodies and no regulation from the top. The morgage holders may be in trouble but they did not cause the banking meltdown. Now lets get on with it and try to rescue our country and never let it happen again.
