Re: Local GAA Championships
Best of luck Sunday rich.
Ye'll need to be at your best to beat Pat's, but I hope ye do it. They've been ridiculously cocky all the way through the Championship, seem to think that they're too good for it.
John's nearly caught them on the hop last weekend, so hopefully ye're lads can do the business

Drumcliffe management badly exposed here .....watching re-runs of Dublin matches and hoping for fairy-tale endings....Never happens. Jayo will be on later to explain the folly of this tactic to you....Don't tell me Mullins was engaged as a "special advisor"...

Management have been trying to convince us on the merits of "playing for the full 60 minutes", but that seems very unsporting altogether. If we played to our best for the full match it would give us an unfair advantage, and we wouldn't want to do anything as sensible as that.

Re: Local GAA Championships
bocerty wrote:the Tyrone senior championship has been thrown into disarray following the decision by Omagh St Enda's to take a case to the DRA. This had led to the postponement of their semi final against Carrickmore. The Omagh club claim their decision to seel legal advice is an attmept to over turn 3 suspensions handed down to 3 players after a melee broke out at the end of their Q/F win over Ardboe.
However in my opinion the decision to go to the DRA is a much more sinister one, during the Q/F Justy McMahon was sent off courtesy of a striaght red he received for striking, he subsequently received a 4 week suspsension and the postponement of this weekends game now means that Justy will effectively be available for the s/f tie. Its my guess Omagh felt they hadnt much hope going in against Carrickmore who would be widely perceived as a physical side whereas Omagh would not be noted for their physicality.
They will have won very few friends for pulling this stunt (not that they have many anyway) and is another example of this culture which IMO eminated from our county were appeals are the order of the day. All those suspended were caught striking and can have no complaints for the punishment they received however clubs seem intent on doing everything they can to get players off.
Omaghs appeal was thrown out by the DRA so they had to field today with a severely weakened team against Carrickmore - Carrickmore would have been overwhelming favourites courtesy of their demolition of Dromore in the previous round coupled with the fact that Omagh were without 4 first choice defenders including county fullback Justy Mc Mahon. Surprisingly the game ended up a draw 8 points each so credit must go to Omagh for weathering the storm and they will be able to select from a full deck for the replay.
It has give the county board a headache though - the final is pencilled in for next Sunday so unless they arrange the replay for midweek which could be a problem in terms of finding a suitable neutral venue with floodlights - then they may have to shift the date of the final.

Re: Local GAA Championships
All roads lead to Ennis for the big match of the weekend.
Liscannor with a population of little over 300 are great value at 15/8 to upset the odds and claim an historic first ever John Daly Cup. Let us not under-estimate the might of the men from the Cliffs of Moher. When the Spanish Armada arrived off the coast of the Western Seaboard many moons ago, it was they who led the charge in fighting them off.
Of course, an entirely different challenge awaits today. But their gutsy semi-final victory proves that they haven't lost any of the fight over the course of the most recent five centuries. And the opposition, Doonbeg, will surely find out all about that fight at half past three.
Liscannor for the win.

How did this end up ?
I was in Liscannor yesterday morning (doolin to lahinch in search of the cure) - The amount of flags/banners and poetic signposts/placards had to be seen to be believed. never been in any town where you could see such out and out support and anticipation

What was the final score OMAR? Had intended on being in attendance but instead spent the day nursing a hangover that would slay a walrus..

The Clontibret v Magheracloone on tg4 today was a class encounter I thought. Lots of talent on show. Clontibret should have had it but for the terrible penalty from McManus.. A rather rotund goalkeeper and he goes down the middle?!

Kilmacud beat Vincents 1-10 to 1-09 to qualify for the final where they will meet St Brigids who surprisingly beat Plunketts by 1-09 to just 5 points - from a team containing the two Brogans, Jayo and Nesty Smith.

Clarinbridge beat TAD.
Portumna drew with Loughrea. Portumna were 7 points up in the 2nd half and with time up 30+ 4mins stoppage time Loughrea took the lead with a sideline. Ref played on Portumna get a soft free, Loughrea player supposedly lied on the ball and Joe Canning taps over the 21 yard free to get the draw. Controversy again in Galway hurling semi-final as time was well up at that stage. 37 mins gone when Canning put over the free.

Re: Local GAA Championships
Tight encounter last Sunday for us, you could say we were disappointed not to win seeing as we squandered some good chances near the end(not least the penalty), but in fairness we were below-par, Magheracloone dominated us at midfield and they played some very good stuff so all in all you'd be happy enough with that. Replay on same time, same venue this Sunday, hopefully we can up the performance and retain the title but we'll need a huge improvement in the middle third and also a better way of keeping Tommy Freeman quiet, who was as dangerous as he has been for a few years.
