Re: Local GAA Championships
And just to show that Kevin McGourty is human, he was knocked out of the Dublin Championshipo on Friday night...........

Sixmilebridge won the quarter final replay against the Mills fairly comfortably...
Broadford beat Corofin meaning that Corofin and Smith O'Brien's will now meet in the relegation final

Cavan Gaels beaten by Kingscourt 1-13 to 1-09!! Major shock, brilliant to see.
Referee escorted off the pitch as the Gaels supporters remonstrate with him at the end of the game.

Re: Local GAA Championships
Jaysus some shock alright! What's the story there, have they went backwards or did Kingscourt simply put in a big performance on the day? Gaels took the eye off the ball looking to Ulster?

Re: Local GAA Championships
In the Antrim hurling Cushendall totally dominated Loughiel in the most obne sided final I have seen in years.
Loughiel won by a point.
Amazing.
And is it only in Antrim that the county "star"players like McGourty and Lim Watson appear to be the most hated people in the county.
The abuse Winker got today was unreal, but he finally won, his 7th final in 8 years.

Re: Local GAA Championships
I wasn't at the game MMM but I listened to it on the radio. (An even bigger handicap for judging a game than usual because Tynan was commentating) but the Gaels were 1-05 to 0-04 up at halftime. Doc Collins was injured at the beginning of the second half and Kingscourt took full advantage of his absence in defence clawing it back to level. Then Barry Reilly (you might remember him from the U21 game against Monaghan, he made a full stretch diving interception in the last minute of the game?) was pulled down in the square as the ball was played in and Ryan McCormack stuck away the penalty. Kingscourt emptied their bench and took of Barry Reilly and a few others, a brave move. Johnston hit two frees and from then it looked like they had took the finger out but Colm Smith and McCormack added a few more to seal it. Gaels went goal hunting then but to no avail.
Kingscourt the better team after a slow start seems to be the consensus. I'd say you're right though, Gaels with one eye on Ulster at halftime thought their job was done.

Re: Local GAA Championships
Scenes of absolute jubiliation in Pairc Tailteann as a last second '45 from Paddy O'Rourke won the game for Skyrne.
Definitely one of the most exciting county finals in Meath in recent seasons.
Final score: Seneschalstown 4-08, Skyrne 0-21

End of the road for Forde ?
At this stage presume only reason he is still lacing up the boots was one last pop at an Ulster club title - Long winter ahead in any case

Now the reaction of the Gaels supporters does seem to be traditional.
They are always at that.

Re: Local GAA Championships
Loyal I heard the Seneschalstown lads gave the ref so much lip over the last minute 45 that he moved it forward 10 metres - but Paddy O'Rourke (in either a great act of sportsmanship or realising that the game would likely be replayed if he pointed it) moved it back to the correct spot. And then put it over!

Re: Local GAA Championships
Paul Taylor inspired Eastern Harps to yet another Sligo Senior Championship this afternoon, defeating Tourlestrane by 0-13 to 0-10.
It's a worrying sign for Sligo football that the player of the championship is a selector on the county team.
Next weekend sees the Intermediate final. It's a repeat of the first round meeting of Easkey and Drumcliffe-Rosses Point.
We came out on top by a point 7 weeks ago, but a lot has changed since then..... hopefully we can finish it out

That is correct, although the feeling I got at the game was that the ref copped onto his senses and moved it back. Maybe Paddy had a word in his ear, if so, a great act of sportsmanship. The '45 took an eternity to take but eventually Paddy slotted her over and that was that.

Evening Herald Senior Football Championship Semi-finals.
St Oliver Punketts Eoghan Ruadh v St Brigids
Ballyboden St Endas or St Vincents v Kilmacud Crokes.
Boden snatched a draw against Vinnies and they will do it all again on Wednesday week. Plunketts hammered Lucan with BB netting twice. Crokes beat Na Fianna by just two points -15 to 1-10 with 11 points coming from Longford's Kavanagh and Wexford's Morrissey ... . Brigids edged out UCD by 09-08 - thank God!
Could it be Plunkett's year?

Wexford should be finished at adult level over the next two weekends barring replays.
Surest bet is Oulart the closest anyone has come to them is about 10 points and the martins beat them 2 years ago so the ballagh will be looking for blood.
All that will be left is the U21 rionn 1 final in football I think.
