League winners 2010?
Ok so Offaly beat Kilkenny yesterday - but will the Cats put it into the League this year? They are still the team to beat but Tipp will want to continue the upward curve. Cork will be anxious to get back to a normal season and will no doubt put a bigger effort than usual into the League. I expect Galway to give it a crack. Waterford - not sure about. Limerick - meltdown. And the Dubs will surely want to build on last year.
Could be a very entertaining and competitive competition.

I'd expect Kilkenny to win the league this year, the team they put out against Offaly wasn't their strongest and when they have their full team out -bar sheflin- in the league.

Re: League winners 2010?
I have a sneaky feeling that much as they like to win all round them, they may not go full crack at the league, whereas' everybody else will be striving might and main.
Cody, I'd say even now, is targeting September and the shot at immortality. I'd even think that he has his 15 through to 22 picked in his head and will be anxious to "protect" them to a degree and will be hoping for the smoothest run through to the final when it all become "Die dog or sh1te a license".
A couple of aspiring "Top Cats" may have to wait an extra year before their breakthrough as the tried and trusted warriors of the past 4 years still have enough in the tank to squeeze out another one....

The big question is can a team get up to the cats level this year ..Tipp did last year but can they repeat it this year..As for the Dubs to stay in Div1 this year will be a great acheivement and would be a real sign of progress- theirs not to many teams that will want do drop down to Div 2

Disagree there for the money and resources been pumped in there they need to get to a league semi final/final at least to show signs of progress.mullins wrote:The big question is can a team get up to the cats level this year ..Tipp did last year but can they repeat it this year..As for the Dubs to stay in Div1 this year will be a great acheivement and would be a real sign of progress- theirs not to many teams that will want do drop down to Div 2

looks to be a really good contest like Jayo said. A cracker of an opening tie as well which will really set the pace for the weeks to come.

Jaysus Jim its not Man Utd or Chelsea or City we're talking about here. To be dining at the top table and staying there with the likes of Cork, Tipp and the Cats IS progress. While a semi would be welcome the work that has gone in does not ensure overnight sucess - if at all ......

I've a feeling Cork will win Munster this year, while Tipp got to the AI last year they don't convince me, a bit over-rated I think.

disagree. Tipp have a young, talented squad led by a great manager. They stand a very good chance this year.

compared to other county boards ye are man city a bottomless pit. you should check out how much is been pumped into Dublin hurling.Jayo Cluxton wrote:JimWexford wrote:Disagree there for the money and resources been pumped in there they need to get to a league semi final/final at least to show signs of progress.

at one stage the were getting more off Croke park and Leinster council than all the other counties put together.

Dublins story in Hurling is a great one, it really gives other county teams that bit of hope that they can break into the big league, a lot of money may have been pumped into Dublin but they are there because they deserve to be regardless of the cash injections received! It's great to see a primarily football county mixing with the "hulring elite" and annoying them!
In saying that, Derry got into (and promptly out of) Division 1 on a shoe string budget in 2000 and stayed there!

Re: League winners 2010?
don't know where your going with that statement but inside Leinster dublin would of always been viewed as a DUAL county. Never once would they od been regarded as a soft touch.Teams may of expected to beat them but they always game up with a surprise very other year - you should check the results in the 70's/80's when the dubs had a football team and see there hurling results.bald eagle wrote:Jayo Cluxton wrote:JimWexford wrote:compared to other county boards ye are man city a bottomless pit. you should check out how much is been pumped into Dublin hurling.

They still are 2nd in the provincial role of honour to boot.
only people they annoyed where themselves at how little they put back into the game, now they are on a real rise again BUT need a league semi as well as an AI semi to show progress

The loss last year to a poor Limerick team was a big blow, if they had gotten past Limerick I would have given them every chance against a shaky enough Tipp team.

Last years Tipp team was hyped up by the media as they would never admit there is no team to beat KK. Even at last years AI KK never really looked like losing it, Tipp playing their best hurling of the year and still only a point or two ahead.

Ah here Sami - don't start spouting that sh1te! Every season is littered with teams beating other teams and then getting hammered by teams that got hammered by the team they hammered.
You can only judge teams in head to heads against each other - not how they played against their granny's mother's brother once removed.

This statement I fully agree with.
Tipp are always hyped up prima donnas.
They only got through Munster due to the lack of a Cork team, interesting to see what happens this year.
Sami bear in mind Galway and Wexford would have an equal "lurve" of Tipp. Ask Tony Reddan and all belonging to him

I disagree with you there Jayo. Whilst head to head is undoubtedly the best way comparing teams, why can't you compare other results? That's a perfectly reasonable way of comparing two teams and people do it all the time.

Lazy people and journalists do ... Its not reasonable - you can have different styles, different match ups, different conditions, different atmosphere, different psychologies, different players acting differently on a different day - its what makes sport.
If you follow your reasoning then if Dublin hammered Wexford in Leinster (for example Jim!) and they happened to meet again later in the competition there would be no point in playing the fixture...................

not at all Jayo. Of course other factors will influence the actual game in question but you can still COMPARE the two teams in such a way before the game! It's part of what match previews, favourites, predictions etc are all made up from and you'd be stupid to ignore it.
