3 Up 3 Down - The weeks winners & losers
Just for a bit of fun & something to give us another thing to argue about!
Every Monday chose the 3 people who done best the previous week in GAA circles & the 3 that had a 'mare, giving reasons for your choice!
3 up -
1) Aidan O'Shea - had a brilliant game in midfield against Donegal, 2 yellows not enough to take away from his performance for me.
2) Mickey Harte - successfully guided Tyrone to the last 4 of the championship, defeating Ulster champions and party specialists Monaghan to do so. This is the same Tyrone side that were well beaten by Donegal in Ulster don't forget.
3) Brendan Cummings - Brendan won the All Ireland Poc Fada for the seventh time at the weekend. A brilliant achievement in itself.
3 Down -
3) Rory Gallagher - simple, for 'that' collusion story! Personally feel he lost the plot with some of his comments.
2) Eamonn McGee - The stamp was an act of sheer frustration, however it was still something that he will feel ashamed for doing. Regardless, for the act alone he is on the list.
1) Joe Brolly - Brollygate as it's being called on twitter, has been a storm that shows no sign of claming in the O'Neill county. Will Joe get asked back to Tyrone dinner dances? You bet he will! His rant was in places out of order when he personally attacked Sean Cavanagh.

Re: 3 Up 3 Down - The weeks winners & losers
A great concept Beagle, and hard to argue too much with your first list.
Aidan O'Shea turned in a mammoth performance, and Tyrone winning 5 games in 6 weeks to make the semis is a great achievement.
As for 3 Down, Brolly very deservedly takes the top spot, while Eamon McGee has been fortunate that his stamp has been lost amidst all the other stories from the weekend.
As for Gallagher, I think you could have had his boss in there instead, as Rory won't have said anything that Jim didn't know was coming. It has been a desperately disappointing week for Jim, and by his own admission the 2nd half of the Mayo game was his worst ever experience in charge of a side. 2 weeks ago he was a Messianic figure heading towards back-toback Ulster & AI titles, and today he is contemplating his future with Donegal. Jimmy is a very smart and highly confident guy, but this will probably have been the lowest point of his sporting career.

Three up:
1. Diarmuid Connolly. Shook off media pressure and temprement to deliver a MOTM display.
2. Colm Cooper. Exudes class. Plucky, inventive and possessed of magnificent vision.
3. Dean Rock. A virtual executioner in football gear. Deadly when loose.
Three down:
1. Tyrone's football ethic. Cynical football at any level is anathema to all followers.
2. Ger Brennan. A liability to Dublin/Dublin's style. Ponderous and two fisted (when close).
3. Kieran Donaghy. No longer a WMD...Unable to rise off the ground..

thats it Boxty ignore the obvious cynical tactics going on during the senior game. Talk about the great game it was whilst ignoring some of the stuff going on during it.Boxtyeater wrote:Three up:

He is 6 foot behinds him and either mis fielded or is 10 'seconds too late and clearly no contact
Presume that was this year ? Which sums it up from a Donegal perspectiveÂ
If you have an argument please make it instead of gimping like a gimp on the ditch

Given what has been posted recently by a certain other poster, that age-limit may need to be quite high.bocerty wrote: Is there not a minimum age for members of this site???????

Re: 3 Up 3 Down - The weeks winners & losers
can someone explain how the CCCC have let the eye gouging incident go?bald eagle wrote:Surprised not to see the eye gouger on the 3 down Boxty!

They investigated and banned Conor Gormley for a lesser incident and yet this goes unpunished completely.

Yes, RTE tried and convicted Conor Gormley, hence the CCCC had to investigate.bocerty wrote:can someone explain how the CCCC have let the eye gouging incident go?bald eagle wrote:Surprised not to see the eye gouger on the 3 down Boxty!

Re: 3 Up 3 Down - The weeks winners & losers
RTE only act on video evidence apparently any the only evidence for eye gouging was that single photo hence no punishment. I am only feeding back what i've seen mentioned elseware so may stand corrected.

I think that is exactly Bocerty's point that you've just made.bronco wrote:maybe the cccc should look in to this incident to bocerty
Kerry, Dublin, Mayo and all the rest are at it as well, yet it is Tyrone who are held up as the devil incarnate. It is pretty sickening, and all stems from RTE's feud with Tyrone.
One of the dirtiest actions was during the Tyrone/Mayo semi final, when the caption appeared under Sean Cavanagh's name saying 'fouls committed: 4'). I've never seen a caption like that before or since on any player, and thought it was a disgusting low blow by RTE.

Re: 3 Up 3 Down - The weeks winners & losers
I also noted the fouls committed caption and thought it vreflected very badly on the coverage.
Grand if it was a thing we'd seen throughout this season's championship or even if we'd seen it since.
The issue should have been highlighted - seem to pass with no remarks passed.

Re: 3 Up 3 Down - The weeks winners & losers
Hard to know where to put Fermanagh - should it be the winners or the losers category.
On one hand they have lost Peter as their manager on the other hand the bank balance could be healthier next season!!!!!!
