did he ever play for Ulster in the Railway Cup P?
I am certain he did.
the reason i asked was a quiz book i was reading had the question who was first Tyrone hurler to represent Ulster and the answer was Vinny Owens form my own club but i was fairly sure Devlin was the first - cheers

Ciaran Barr i dont remember enough of before he went south. Humpy was a hell of a player, brilliant coach too shame those on our county board couldnt see that.

Hurling - Olly Collins (Lavey)
Football - Anthony Tohill (Swatragh)
As for Niall Patterson, was speaking to him a few months back and he's getting no smaller!! Still, a great man with some brilliant tales to tell and not a bad singer either!!!

Re: Best hurler and footballer you've seen play from your own county
From a Tyrone point of view Canavan would be the obvious choice - however i would choose either Gerard Cavlan or Eugene Mc Kenna.
Cavlan was a super footballer more than capable of executing the ridiculous with ease. Just a pity that like many great sportsmen he had another side to him which got in the way of his talent.
As for hurling well i'd probably pick myself for that award!!!!!!!!!!!!

he only played for Tyrone the once and unfortunately i never got to see him score 4-16 that day - he would be my second choice though

Cavlan a fine player indeed......Bocerty "sees sense eventually".....Posted??? via a lapdog yoke from Galway..maybe!!! Mossbags observed busking in Eyre Sq. with Nonie Ward (Frog's sister) in the singing role...Hilarious!!1bocerty wrote:From a Tyrone point of view Canavan would be the obvious choice - however i would choose either Gerard Cavlan or Eugene Mc Kenna.

I wouldn't disagree with much of that.
I would also say Mcginley is a very under-rated footballer. Much better than Cavanagh IMHO. Not a real star but as someone who can do everything. In '08 he really was the Footballer of the Year. Just a great all-rounder, probably Tyrone's best. He can score, pass, catch, defend, mark and support the play as good as anyone out there.

For me it would have to be Dermot McCabe. One of the last men to put on the jersey that you felt would die for the cause and he had the talent to match.
As for hurling.. I've never seen a Cavan man play in a manner that suggested he thought that this sport was anything more than football with a weapon.
