Standard of play in your county
Wexford is getting there, 3rd game in the group stages this weekend which will decide which 8 go into relegation (of which 3 are relegated to intermediate this year) and the 8 to go into the 1/4 finals.
Wexford totally restructuring its club championships and plan to have 12 teams in all grades by 2012, we have 16 in Senior, Intermediate, Junior at the moment and 12 in Junior C and the district is Junior D.
New look will be 12 senior. Intermediate A and intermediate B, Junior, and Junior A, Junior B then is now district, ie district run until the semi finals where winners of each district plays off (usually 2nd/3rd teams but not always the case few winners in the past couple of years have been first teams at long last coming through) .
We now will have two groups of 6.
so you play 5 group games (football and hurling) = 10 weeks
1/4 in both a possibility = 2 Weeks
1/2 in both = 2 weeks
Final in both = 2 weeks
total required of 16 weeks to play a club championship if you have a good year which is very possible (one team senior football and first hurling team could be junior or vice versa), love to know where they are going to get the time.
Totally driven by and passed by a hurling dominated county board it suits hurling in the county not football, only 3/4 teams will win the hurling where as any out of 10 teams could win the football.
The thinking behind it, Kilkenny have it and they win All Ireland's so if we do it.......
Instead of looking at the obvious the DRAMATIC drop in standards in the county especially underage absolutely shocking.
I don't think we have ever seen it so low, the amount of walkovers and amalgamations are at an all time high I reckon, is it the same across the country.
