Standard of Sporting Reportage in Ireland Empty Standard of Sporting Reportage in Ireland

So far this morning, we have had three well known intercounty hurlers "retired" by so called sports journalists/writers. One broadsheet in particular led the way with these stories. I now know that the origin of two of these alleged retirements was via a well known internet forum but the adminstrators of that site were quick to react and dismiss these unsubstantiated fabrications, thankfully. However, its sad that journalists are now running with stories off the back of what they read on an internet forum. The question I would like to put the GAA Tipster public is, is this what sports reporting is now reduced to? Rumours from an anonymous user on an internet forum?

True but writing a piece based on unconfirmed ramblings off an internet forum takes it to a new level. Can we actually believe anything we read nowadays?

I haven't believed anything I have read for years now tbh - and not just sport. People who do 3 years in college and become 'experts' in the economy, sport, financial matters etc ... and people believe their ramblings! Rolling Eyes
