Pay To Play ............... Whatever Next
Yes you read the title right. Its not pay for play its pay to play.
The Tyrone ladies county board are attempting to introduce a regime were the members of the senior ladies panel will be asked to pay £2 every time they train, which could be up to 3 times per week at the height of the season. A further £2 for tea and sandwiches after training/matches. They will also have to pay £2 for the team bus to and from their games and a further £10 for socks and shorts.
Have you ever in all your day heard the like of it. It seems the ladies county board in Tyrone seem to revel in stumbling from one disaster to another on an almost annual basis.
Their decisions and attitudes in the last number of years in my opinion have cost the Tyrone ladies at least one All Ireland title - yes i know Cork have been a formidable outfit of late but i honestly believe with the talent available (though they were not always on the panel) Tyrone could have annexed one all-ireland.
A t his rate we wont even have a team to field this year such is the discontent within the camp.
Opinions please...........................

Club Tyrone? its certainly not their problem Mullins and besides they are more occupied with raising almost £7m for the Garvaghey project. As for the county board i presume you mean the Ladies county board, i think its already obvious form their plan that these people are not fit for office

Surely another reason for the Ladies set up to join the GAA and unify all the orginisations? The Camogie board is willing to come under the GAA umbrella however the Ladies board are more than unwilling. The reason i feel is that there are folk involved in the Ladies game that are worried about losing their importance within their set up if they do come under the one organisation.
This is something you hear happening at club or youth level, not at Senior County level!!! How is this being perceived within the Tyrone camp Boc?

it hasnt gone down well at all BE a you can imagine the girls are refusing point blank to pay anything - word has it a few of the senior players met with representatives of the county board during the week and asked some pertinent question about the finances and were the money had gone - however they appear to have been met with a wall of silence.
I only discovered today that each club in Tyrone that fields a ladies team pays £400 per annum to the county board i think it totals £11k all in then there is the various sponsors etc - sounds a bit suspect to me in terms of expenditure and were it is going.

They should be at home in the kitchen cleaning the delph. There's a reason a girl's feet are smaller than a mans. Its so that they can get in closer to the sink. If God wanted women to play football, he would have made their feet bigger. But he made them small so what does that tell you? The Tyrone girls seem like a high maintenance bunch as well, no wonder the County Board have objected?

Boc, all clubs pay an affiliation to their respective county boards, men, women and coiste .Affiliation includes league registration as well as insurance and at £400 that is cheap. Ours is closer to €9k a year for my club and we are a small club in wexford.

didnt hear this until i logged n but this is disgracefull - they play for their clubs and get the pride of getting picked to represent our county and some busy body in a committee room decides that they should pay for the privilege - no doubt whilst they eat thier free steak dinner with all the trimmings!

Re: Pay To Play ............... Whatever Next
I only have a little sympathy for the players on this. The Ladies County Board in Tyrone is run on a shoestring compared to the men. The £400 per year fee pointed out by bocerty is a separate fee charged by the county board that is ring fenced for county teams. The affiliation fee each club makes is different. Sponsors are hard to come by especially during these current times.
Some questions need to be asked of the players on the panel especially those who have been on it now for a number of years like how come there that been four different managers since 2007? Anyone ask the previous managers why they left? Also the press release sent out says that the team trains as hard as the men. A story I heard from a Tyrone journalist would make me think this is not true except for a few committed women.
Also if pressure is being put on members of the county board to go, who will replace them?

shermantor - not sure were your getting the knowledge/info from and i have no doubt your not far of the mark with some comments.
On the issue of managers - the reason why some of them left is because they were not wanted. They only got the job because no one else wanted it and their techniques for training and tactical awareness were like something out of the ark - fact.
Yes there were issues within the setup as far as training went but if we were all judged on the effort we put in at training and made pay for the privilege accordingly then the Cavan men and the Antrim men would have been out a fortune in recent years - so that point is bollox (no insult intended). I'd safely say every Ladies setup bar 1 or 2 like Cork and Monaghan have their problems within the setup.
As for the sponsors - i have it from a very reliable source that up until last week the co board hadnt even bothered to collect the sponsorship cheques from the sponsors = yes i know its a thankless job and there are not many volunteering to work on the co board but surely those that are there could make a better effort

The managers jibe is a lol! Adding fact to the end of a paragraph does not make it true, Mister Brent. Unless you are a player in the squad or are a regular at training sessions for another reason, you cannot really know what is going on there. As for tactical awareness, all managers get stick for that. Even Mickey Harte does. Two All Ireland semi final defeats in the last three years suggests that the managers at least got some tactics right before being knocked out.bocerty wrote:The Shermanator wrote:I only have a little sympathy for the players on this. As for the comment about the Antrim and Cavan, you miss the point completely. The Antrim and Cavan senior mens teams are funded well because football and hurling in both of those counties can generate money by getting at club and county level crowds popular support to their games that bring in willing sponsors not to mention the likes of Club Aontroma where supporters are willing to contribute out of their own pocket. The money generated allows these players on county teams to use services that cost money like gym membership, coach travel to games, accommodation, playing kit and so on that helps cover the cost of preparing for games. If the money dries up, you have to make cut backs starting with the luxuries. Where are the crowds for ladies football? The fact is, and this is a fact, ladies football does not draw spectators to their games in the numbers the men do. This draws less money. So its not about a team being successful, it is how they can draw money to support themselves. If the Tyrone ladies senior team cannot draw money to support their training and preparations, then you may have to look into funding part of it yourselves or drop out and stick with your club. And its not just Tyrone, while the Kildare men are going to America on bonding trips, their ladies are having to "pay to play" too.

As for the sponsors, as far as I know the only sponsor the ladies senior team has is Sally O'Briens in Omagh. If the county board are waiting on money from them, it might be down to the death of the owner John Mc Girr a few weeks ago and that money from them might be coming later than expected. There are also sponsors of underage teams but I can not remember who they are. I do not know if they are fielding B teams this year in u14 and u16 competitions.
The easiest thing is to tell volunteers that they should be doing their job better when you are not offering to help out. It is cop outs like this that leaves roles unfilled and no one wanting to take them. Sound familiar?

Re: Pay To Play ............... Whatever Next
sounds to me like your on the county board sherminator - you certainly have the defences up anyway - perhaps i touched a nerve.
My info is coming from very reliable sources so dismiss it all you want i know it to be factually correct. And as for missing the point - i think you missed a few points yourself - the point i was making about Cavan and Antrim was if effort and committment at training decided whether you should pay for the privilege of representing your county then both squads would have been charged for the privilege but it seems to have gone over your head
Are you telling me that other counties are raking in thousands from ladies football and are working on a handsome profit- total and utter bollox - every county is struggling with income from ladies football yet not many have the cheek to ask players to pay to play.
As for the comment about Sallys well that is dung too - the ladies season is long over and our county board only collected the sponsorship cheque for the 2008-2009 season last week!!!!! Dont dare use the death of Mr Mc Girr as an excuse.
And by the way you dont have to be a tactically astute manager to guide a ladies team or any other team for that matter to an All ireland semi-final so dont kid yourself on that one

There's always people to fill the void left by other Sherm, so don't kid yourself that positions would be left vacant. The problem with some people on County/Club boards is their value of their own self importance, they think that no-one can do the job like them or there is no-one tofill the void if they left, well there is always someone that would and could fill the void, more often than not they'd do a better job! And yes, i'm speaking from experience!
