Bang on about Ulster, without a doubt Ulster is rubbish! I've stated before that Armagh were just behind Tyrone but after their disaster of a year Tyrone are light years ahead of the rest and will be for some time!
We may get a few side that get a surprise run in the qualifiers but that will be it, no Ulster side apart frome Tyrone will win the All Ireland for at least 7 years!

why do you say 7 years? If Armagh get the right manager in charge we will win it within 3-4 years.

Re: Dublin V Kerry
I say 7 years as a realistic view, yes Armagh have great talent coming through and IF they get the right manager they will do well. Too much politics there at the moment for me, reminds me of Derry in the 90's!

You could well be right. Would love to know whats going on to be honest. One thing i do think however is that if Grimley gets the job all that stuff will be put aside, believe me he will take no crap from anyone.

Re: Dublin V Kerry
I really hope so Sam, as you know i rate the Armagh squad highly but if they balls up who the next manager is then they'll be little more than what Derry were in the 90s......a team that should have had more All Irelands!

Nearly a week later and it still gnaws .... I see Breheny in the Indo today putting it down to Leinster being not good enough.
What no-one seems to mention is that Dublin beat a good Kildare side (with 14 men for most of the game) and that the same Kildare side could have caused the shock of the C'ship last Sunday.
So that argument doesn't stack up. We are obviously not good enough but are not as bad as last Monday.
Two things contributed I feel. One - we bottled it - again. Two - our defensive system is shocking as is our tackling. Its non-existent. Contrast it to Kildare who have improved hugely in this department.

Re: Dublin V Kerry
Jayo i have read quite a few articles about the game all week - Dublin certainly arent that bad of that i have no doubt. But what alarms me is the preparation that went into the game by the dubs seems to have gone out the window the minute the first whistle made. What i mean by that is apparently Barry Cahill was detailed to mark Declan O' Sullivan and yet when O' Sullivan moved into full forward Cahill did not follow him. That is poor - if you've got a job to do on a particular player you go wherever he goes. I listened to some guy on the radio yesterday Niall something or other he is involved in the Dublin setup - i cant think of his name but i have attended conferences were he has spoke at - anyway he was saying the Dubs were as well prepared as he felt they could be and when he left training last week he never thought that they would be beaten he said confidence was high amongst the squad. So it makes you wonder what went wrong.
Alot of guys reckon some of the players are not up to scratch but i think that is unfair - i ask myself if Mickey Harte had of been managing the same bunch of players all year would they have beat Kerry and i have to say the answer is yes - for me alot of the responsibility here must rest with Gilroy and his backroom, they were not on the same wavelength as Kerry. in the build up to the game in term sof second guessing tactics etc
I also read an article by Keith Barr yesterday and he feels that Gilroy needs to get rid of the backroom staff he has - it came across to me as a thinly veiled dig at Mickey Whelan though maybe I am wrong.

Re: Dublin V Kerry
I think a huge amount of it is psychological too. Mayo have similar problems tbh. I dunno what the answer is though. And I agree if Mickey Harte was in charge - or even McGeeney - we'd be a lot steelier. Barr was prob getting at MW alright. But those lads have the best of everything and still blow up every year. Can't even make a final. Very frustrating ...

Fair comments JC but I feel you are missing one other point and that is that Kerry were motivated to the utmost degree by the "beast" that is the Dublin football show. If O'Connor could have chosen any scenario to motivate his team then I doubt he would have picked anything different than last Mon. It's too easy for teams to get motivated to beat you. I doubt very much that Kerry will perform to that level again this year yet for those 70 min they were able to instill a fire in their bellies that blew ye away.

i knew what you meant Mossy i was just poking fun back at you, no sign of the beards yet but i hear we are using the services of a few basketball players in training to try and adjust to the height of these Cork boys

In the past 5 years have the dubs improved at all?
I suggest that the forward unit has improved, the midfield stayed about the same and the backs have disimproved.

Wouldn't quibble too much with that and don't forget that we lost a promising looking Davoren with cruciate trouble in the first game!
I also think that some of the defenders are not that bad but the lack of a cohesive system is appaling and that rests with the line. Also as I said before have a look at what McG did with Kildare in terms of tightness and tackling and turning over ball - excellent improvement there in one short year. We badly need a FB still though - haven't had one since Paddy Christie - amazing really!

Re: Dublin V Kerry
Dermot Connollys been a big disappointment for me. Thought he'd be a real star there a couple of years back but has showed sweet FA to back this up. Would struggle to make most of the top 10 or so teams imo.

Re: Dublin V Kerry
When the Dubs were talking about replacing Pillar two years ago I suggested they get McGeeney as a manager. No-one even made a comment about that suggestion. This was before he went to Kildare.
He was living in Dublin, played club football in Dublin, knew the scene, just the ticket.
No-one listened. May not have delivered the Holy Grail but would have added much needed belief and moral fibre.
