County Form Guides - Page 2 Empty Re: County Form Guides

Post  Guest Tue Jun 23, 2009 11:07 pm

Here would be my honest thought of the Meath SFC:

Navan O'Mahonys: Perennial underachievers but reigning county champions, have 6/7 county panellists, another 3/4 who aren't far away, a former county panelist and one who would certainly make the panel but has on numerous occasions declined due to other commitments. On paper, different gravy but already been beaten by Senchelstown.

Wolfe Tones: Second favourites, their mercurial rise from Junior has been spectacular, a repeat of 2006 not out of the question, class players like Cian Ward, Stephen Shepphard and Ciaran McLoughlin.

Skyrne: Only team qualified for the knockout stages but the dury is still out as they haven't beaten a whole lot. Paddy O'Rourke only county panelist though you might remember the name Trevor Giles who is still knocking about.

Senchelstown: 2007 champions, got beat after a replay by All-Ireland champions St.Vincents that year, poor last year but better again this year, home of the Sheridans and other good club players like Brian Clarke and Robert Ruddy.

Dunboyne: Third favourites at the start of the year but a lot of injuries have blunted their cause. Struggling to make knockout stages.

Simonstown: Going well so far but couldn't see them winning outright, Shane O'Rourke's club and the dubs may recognise the name Wayne McCarthy who was a regular in the Dublin team a few years ago.

Duleek/Bellowstown: Not going great despite the best efforts of players like Mark Collins, Petsy Curran and Joey Martin.

Dunshauglin: Not the force they were 6 years or so ag but still capable of a shock. Home to Caoimhin King and Tommy Johnson but maybe not this year, though I wouldn't rule out.

St. Patricks: A team that always surprise me but no county champions.

Blackhall Gaels: Anthony Moyles went to DUblin, Alan Nestor is in the USA so things could be going better. Knockout stages best hope.

Donaghmore/Ashbourne: Played two, lost two but worth considering for next year as they are a young team.

Summerhill: Last year's county finalists but struggling a bit this year, still expect them to get better as the year goes on, wouldn't read too much into the fact they only have one fringe player on the county team, that in my opinion was the reason they did so well last year.

Walterstown: Not the force of old, out of it.

St.Ultans: Only up from intermediate and finding the going tough.

Rathkenny: Intermediate champions 2007 but could make a quick return to that divison if things don't improve.

Trim: Won't be happening.

In short, O'Mahonys should win on paper but you can never trust them. Wolfe Tones, Dunshaughlin and Summerhill are waiting in the wings if they slip up.

now having seen curry play this year i really dont thing they will win much, that leaves harps and tourlestrane. two very good teams and both will be hard bet, at this stage i would go with harps but not team wins back to back titles anymore so tourlestrane could sneak in. prediction harps v tourlestrane final winners tourlestrane

in hurling it will be won by calry st joesphs without a doubt.

Can't argue with any of that Rich, but I do reckon that Ballymote could come into the mix somewhere as well. They've had a strong league (helped by Harps, Tour and Curry all having more county players) and with still quite a young team, I reckon that they could surprise one of the big 3 at the quarter/semi-final stage.
Curry and Harps are in the same group this year, along with St. Mary's and Shamrock Gaels. They should progress from this group, but if either catch Mary's on the wrong day, one could fall early.

The intermediate should be between ourselves, Harps' second team, Geevagh and the Bunnies.

As for the Hurling, Calry for the next four or five years - no question.

UPDATE!

Ballinderry have been kicked out of the Championship because of the ongoing feud regarding James Kielt and James Conway!

Portumna out this weekend against Turloughmore in a match that is must win for Turlough and doesn't mean anything to Portumna apart from pride, as they are already through.

i have an excel sheet of shorts down all I want is to be able to get all the senior teams and let people pick from relaavant lists.
I have all the ulkster football thanks RMD.
any chance of the hurling clubs up there
Donegal all that springs to mind are Burt and Setana I know that there is at least one other
Same for the other counties please north south east and West.
If its ok will people I will e-mail the list to both Sami and JC as they have peoples e-mail address's from tipsters comps (provided its ok with the lads the can forward it on to people to fill in and I will tidy it up then and flog it out.
To the best of my knowlegde only one senior champ is at semi final stage - oh who is it, its an easy one to guess but I will confirm and let people know also I will TRY and give alow doen on the previous 3-5 years in the champ for each county.
Once this is up it should be easy to run year on and easy to update plus it could also be a handy database for all.
BE can you give the lowdown on the Londin Champ please.

Aughnasheelin, Allen Gaels, Annaduff, Ballinamore, Bornacoola, Carrigallen, Drumreilly, Glencar/Manor, Kiltubrid, Melvin Gaels, Mohill, St.Marys (Carrick).
The title wii be between Mohill and St. Marys although they are in the same group.
The hurling title will go to St. Marys again this year.

Galways football chship really gets going this weekend

Barna V Annaghdown
Annaghdowns experience should swinge it here

Caltra V Claregalway
Meehan inspired Caltra to overcome Glaregalway side going through some tough times

Tuam Stars V Michael Breathnachs
The men from Inverne have been coming along nicely but reckon Tuam might have too much for them here.

Caherlistrane V Mountbellew/Moylough
Tough one to call, if Caherlistrane can maintain last years rate of
improvement then they might edge it. Both clubs will be hoping their
respective county stars Cormac Bane and Joe Bergin will not be as bad
as they were last Sunday in the county colous

Moycullen V Killererin
Game of the round. Bradshaw, Lydon and the rest of the Moycullen heros
up against the guile and craft of the real Joyce country
Killererin.Moycullen are the pretenders who just might find Killererin
that bit troo crafty for them at this level.

Corofin V An Cheathru Rua
Hard to look past the county champions here against the Connamara boys
but hopefully their football won't be as dour as it was in 08

St Brendans V Glenamaddy
St Brendans might have it here but should be a close encounter

Salthill-Knocknacarra V Milltown
Good game in prospect here. Milltown have made great strides in the
past few years but that extra bit of class that the seasiders posess
should just be enough to swing it their way.

Mossbags Note
(the hurling format is a joke and not worth commenting on until the
ridiculous situation whereby 4 of 5 from each group go thrue to the
knock-out stages, is done away with. Would you be in agreement with this Clash?? for what its worth only
Clarinbridge look like they might have what it takes to give Portumna a
match this year)

Mayo Senior Football Championship:

Group A: Aghamore,Charlestown, Garrymore, Castlebar Mitchels.
Aghamore and Charlestown already have a win each under their belt and both will be expected to qualify for the 1/4 finals

Group B: Ballina, Crossmolina, Knockmore, Ballinrobe
Easily the toughest group in the history of Mayo GAA. 3 of the top 5 favourites for the championship in one group. Ballina have a win and Cross/Knockmore drew in the first round. Ballina-Cross this weekend to see who qualifies first as Cross will beat Ballinrobe in the final game and Knockmore to beat Ballinrobe and probably Ballina. Crossmolina & Knockmore to qualify

Group C: Ballaghadereen, Shrule-Glencorrib, Breaffy, Burrishhole
Ballagh and Shrule both won their first round games, Ballagh beating Aiden O'Shea's Breaffy by a whopping 18 points. expect the defending champs Ballagh and the Mortimer bros inspired Shrule to qualify

Group D: Ballintubber, Bohola Moy-Davitts, Kiltane, Claremorris
Ballintubber and Bohola in the driving seat with a win each in the first round although they face each other this weekend and that should give Claremorris, who should beat Kiltane, a chance to overtake one of them into 2nd spot. however, i can still see Ballintubber and Bohola qualifying from this group

I've also got information on the Intermediate and Junior championships if yer all interested but if were just sticking with the Senior then there ye go.

Mayo Senior Hurling Championship:

Ballyhaunis, Belmullet, Westport, Tooreen, Ballina, Castlebar
All tems in the one group in the Hulring Championship. Ballyhaunis and Belmullet the standard bearers at the top of the table although Ballyhaunis have a scoring average of +38 after only two matches. Tooreen are missing the influental Cathal Freeman through a broken leg sustained playing football last week for Aghamore and that could cost them dearly later in the season. top 4 teams qualify from group and that should be Ballyhaunis, Belmullet, Tooreen and Westport. recent champions Ballina and bottom of the table Castlebar were both hammered in their opening games and with missing players it doesnt look good for them.

Knockmore beat Corssmolina today in the first semi-final to qualify for their first final in a number of years and Castlebar-Shrule are playing in a 1/4 final replay with the winners playing Charestown in the semi-final.

Knockmore-Charlestown is the expected county final

The Leitrim affair has left Moran looking back at the existing panel I'd imagine.....exciting few games but woeful standard.

A couple from Dungiven I'd imagine. The Loup are too much of a club team, they players are maybe a bit lightweight for county. The best player on the park was Johnny Mc Bride, an excellent player if ever i saw one.
