Dublin
Football
Holders: Kilmacud Crokes
Obviously as All Ireland winners Crokes are hot favs to retain title. Plunketts also rated highly with the Brogans, Jayo and Anthony Moyles - they only lost by 2 points in the Final last year and are motoring this year. St Vincents 2007 Dublin and All Ireland Champions cannot be overlooked either. I wouldn't be looking beyond these three. Not even UCD.

Hurling
Holders: Ballyboden St Endas.
For years the nearly men BSE have now won two on the trot and have an excellent underage structure. Craobh Chiarain can never be overlooked either nor can UCD who often field a team of multinational intercounty galacticos! Kilmacud, Vincents and O'Tooles are also never to far off the pace.

In Meath, the football is between Walterstown, Donaghmore/Ashbourne and Rathkenny. You really can't look beyond this trio of teams. Personally, I'd go for Walterstown, they had three players starting for Meath against Dublin along with five subs. The demise of Navan O'Mahonys has been nothing if not spectacular, I certainly wouldn't be tipping them. Wolfe Tones and Skyrne will be doing well not to be intermediate next year. In the hurling, well if recent form is anything to go by, Kilmessan are in for a rough time of it. Either them or Killyon or Kildalkey will go down. Rathmoloyn could be an outside bet.

Post  mid-mon man Fri Jun 19, 2009 11:46 pm

Amazing, even Fermanagh have more teams in their Senior Championship than we do!

Obviously I was taking the piss on the other thread about the contenders!
Latton are defending champions, they've a good group of players led by county man Eoin Lennon, with other past and present county players like Eddie Lennon, Hugh McElroy, Bernard O'Brien, Eoin Duffy, but overall a great team which is the most important thing. A team who were knocking on the door for a few years before they won their first championship in about 80 years in '05, they reclaimed it last year with a renewed desire of not being one-hit wonders, they'll want to go one further now and do back-to-back wins for the first time. Will obviously be in the reckoning again.
But despite only reaching the semis last year, Clontibret are raging favourites in the local bookies. Having shared the last 4 championships with Latton they are always contenders, and in truth have underachieved. Without a doubt the best panel of players and strength in depth in the county, having swept the board with the reserve championships in recent years. Led by county captain Vinny Corey, aswell as the Mones, McManus, Paul McGuigan and a number of other former county players, there really is a wealth of talent there. But they didn't click last year, but with new management(actually, old management returning), there was a bit of a buzz about them. Although they lost to Latton in the first round of the championship they'll only be peaking for the back-door in July and we won't know how good they are til then. I'd tip them to win it in the end.
Carrickmacross are a hungry young team who made a real breakthrough last year. Reached the championship final for the first time in a good while last year, and won the senior league. All only a couple of years after being promoted. They've a young core of good players, with some very classy forwards. Their best known player would be Stephen "Jinxy" Gollogly but he wouldn't even be one of their better performers within the county alot of the time. They've started well but I wouldn't expect them to go as far again this year. All great experience for them though and with alot of work and a bit of luck there's a championship in this team in a few years. Time is on their side.
Blayney would be a team who are always contenders whatever the circumstances. Always have a good team in place but in truth are a shadow of their former great teams from the 70's - 90's. Still a formidable force within the county though, and with players like Hanratty, Dermot McArdle, McBennett(of poleaxing Kildare forward fame!), and with young players like Marty McElroy rising quickly through the ranks they will rise back to the top fairly quickly. Don't think they'll challenge seriously this year but like Carrick they'll be right up there in a year or two.
Magheracloone are a team who, it seems, really missed their chance. They definately underachieved, having appeared in 4 finals in 5 years, but only won a solitary championship, the only one in their history. They haven't reached those heights in the last few years but they will still be a big threat on any given day, especially when you have the likes of the Freemans in your side. They have been written off it seems but who knows, they may have a big year yet, Latton were wrote off as an old team last year and then won the championship, with a 38-year old (deservedly) winning the player of the year! They've started off with an impressive win over Carrick, but as I said before we'll see the real business in the next round.

No point talking about any other teams, and there's probably a couple too much in that list. I'd expect it to be between Latton and Clontibret again this year, with Clontibret winning it back. Carrick deserve to be talked about as contenders after last year and will be the closest contenders but like Blayney will take another year or two to seriously challenge. Magheracloone are the dark horses, you don't know what way they'll turn up, but at the end of the day I'd tip Clontibret.

Hurling-wise, well Blayney will win that, simple as that. Won the last 5 and 9 of the last 10, can't see them being stopped and they'll be looking to keep going and break Clontibret's record of 8 in a row. Clontibret as usual will be closest but still not good enough to stop the Faughs it seems. Other teams would be the Harps, Inniskeen, Truagh, Latton and Carrick but none of them would get near Blayney in a match that matters.

Tyrone - Football

Ardboe Carrickmore Coalisland Dromore Errigal Ciaran Galbally Killyclogher Omagh Trillick

of the 8 teams that remain realistically the winners will come from either Carrickmore Dromore or Errigal Ciaran. Peter Canavan is managing Errigal this year and they are many peoples great white hope. I think they are too young personally but with guys like Enda Mc Ginley and Davy Harte about you've always got a chance Mark Harte also appears to be back playing seriously so they should be there or thereabouts.

Carrickmore are a hardened championship team too, managed by Ronan Clarke's (Armagh) father, they are always hard to beat and with Conor Gormley in the side most teams are beat before they even take the field against Carrickmore.

Dromore have been banging on the door for several years now - and finally made the breakthrough in 2007 and losing it last year (how could be forget that match) already though they have got rid of a new manager so something is amiss, that said they have one of the best trainers in gaelic football now looking after their fortunes - Ryan Porter who trained the Donegal team who won the NFL in 2006. They have some fantastic footballers and all have big game experience and know what it takes and would be my favourites.

Last year showed however that anything is possible - of the 8 remaining the only two i would definitely discount are Galbally and Trillick.

Hurling

we only have a handful of clubs up here and its always been the same final for years - Dungannon v Carrickmore - take your pick you've a 50/50 chance of getting it right. Dungannon won it last year from what i remember, but Carrickmore would probably be favourites.

well i aam in a bit of a unique position here as im from sligo and i play in roscommon. so here goes.

in sligo and black and white will im sure back me up it will be between 3 clubs as always.
eastern harps
tourlestrane
curry

now having seen curry play this year i really dont thing they will win much, that leaves harps and tourlestrane. two very good teams and both will be hard bet, at this stage i would go with harps but not team wins back to back titles anymore so tourlestrane could sneak in. prediction harps v tourlestrane final winners tourlestrane

in hurling it will be won by calry st joesphs without a doubt.

roscommon.

no question here at all st. bridgets will win this and win it very easy.

in hurling it will be tight enough with about 3 teams with a big chance but i have a feeling athleague will win this out.

hope that helps

In Antrim it should come down to whoever wins between St Gall's and Cargin, who backboned the County team against Donegal.

However St Gall's three best players are not playing for the county, which should help them retain the title.

In hurling, Cushendall will be favourites, challenged by Dunloy and maybe Loughiel. Loughiel have lost 6 finals in a row, and it would be great to see them go all the way this year.

Gowna might challenge Cavan Gaels in the football with Dermot McCabe and Mark McKeever not involved in the county set up but realistically you cant look past the Gaels. The only other real competition is from Mullaghoran who the Gaels already beat in the group stages.

folks I want to try and set this up for the end of the month with people using july to enter most county champs will not be to semi final stage until sept.

Munster people ye are great at blowing your trumpets but we need to know,
will nemo prevail in cork can the crokes break the stranglehold of the divisional sides in Kerry where de la salle aflash in the pan can somne one from east clare win the football and someone west clare wn the hurling and who cares what happens in tipp will it go to the north for the hurling and back south for the football or will a few teams from mid tipp challenge.
Munster we are waiting.
Few counties outstanding in other proviences
Mayo where are all the Mayo posters gone the don't hgave to leave Mayo for dublin yet or are the really feeling confident after that semi-final win get your asses to a keyboard and let ud know whats happening west of the shannon.
Loyal can you do run down on Louth/Westmeath will it be Matttlock and the downs or will the blues and Castledaly triump.
Horn neck the low down on the garden county St pats to continue or will Rathnew that it back and oust the townies.

come on I want to have a database of all senior teams to allow people chose who the want with a bit of help.

Interesting that Slaughtneil are shorter odds to win the Championship despite being well beaten by Swatragh in the first round.

Both them and Ballinderry (Mc Cusker, Muldoon, Mc Guckin) the two finalists last year were beaten in first round by 2 division 2 teams (lavey(Kevin Mc Cloy, C O Boyle) and Swatragh)

Also last chance saloon
Coleraine(Mc Goldricks)
Banagher(Sean Marty, Lynch, Cartin)
Loup
Glen
Magherafelt
Castledawson

on the little bit i know about mayo football, last years winners ballaghadreen will be very strong again, there senior team is built on the 3 in a row u21 team of 3 years ago so i would expect them to be around at the business end of the year.

crossmalina who c.mac plays for will challenge as always with charlestown and ballina in with a huge say also. it will be very tight and could really go either way between the four at a guess ill go with crossmalina but its 50/50 or 25/25/25/25

Strong favourites have to be Portumna who haven't lost a championship match since the final in 2006.

I would give an outside chance to Clarinbridge, Liam Mellows and Loughrea. Can't see anybody beating Portumna though, 3 in-a-row more than likely.

They have to be dead certs for The All Ireland as well, better than anything Ulster or Muster has to offer. Not sure about leinster.
