Championship Apathy.......
Is it only me or any of the rest of you finding it difficult to get excited about the championship season which starts in earnest this weekend?
Not sure if its Tyrones very poor league campaign or the fact that I am out nearly every night at training or matches but at this stage with Tyrones first game just over a week away i have to say i have little or no interest in Championship 2010.
The standard of football and the fact that i am convinced it is going to be another summer dominated by the men in the middle and the CCCC does little to help my cause.
Anyone any suggestions on how to remedy my current predicament????????

Re: Championship Apathy.......
The lack of interest in meaningless provincial championships is to blame.
Wait to the qualifiers get going, that's when it really starts.

Re: Championship Apathy.......
The buzz starts when your own county get involved. As like every year in May getting bored with the soccer and no interest in rugger, crickers or bowls so I expect some great games and by mid June people will be having heated debates about the current standing of different teams. Also I would like more positive reporting and analysis from the so called experts who seem to think that every game has to be perfect.

county
As was said before the whole thing kicks off when either yout county plays its first game as you walk up the side of the grounds past the over priced hot dogs to get your ticket at the ticket box you get to your seat and see the lads warming up and as that first ball is thrown in at 2 pm or 4pm, thats when the championship starts thats when the excitment begins, I have no interest really this weekend but ill have massive interest in the Meath and Offally game because winners play my home place so its hard to get excited in may...

Re: Championship Apathy.......
I see that the prices for the weekends game between Armagh and Derry are 27 Euro/£23 for the covered atnd and 15 Euro/£13 for the terracing. Family tickets 15 euro/£13 for the terracing and children £5 for terracing only.
With the shortage of work about in the country at the minute, does anyone think that attendances will be down this year in favour of the armchair and the telly. I know I couldn't sit in front of the telly if my county was playing but it will be interesting to see attendance figures in the coming weeks i suppose.

And still two pints to drink, and for some a couple of lines still to snort

i would say attendances will be down. BBC has live coverage of every ulster championship game as well so i would say that will affect attendances

Me too but when you are almost filling Croker for every game sometimes these things happen. Getting 25,000 into the ground for a double header at semi stage presents no such logistic problems ...

True yeah but the problem is, is these lads slouching in at 4.10 -4.15 half cut and will stand there shouting for the game gradually stopping to have another pint and throw there change at any player on the opposing team from the hill ( not attcking any particular county) cough cough

Someone threw an apple at Noel Skehan in Croker once and he picked it up and took a bite out of it!

Re: Championship Apathy.......
there was a soccer player a couple of years ago got hit with a coin. He bent over, picked it up. Gave a thumbs up to the crowd as it to say thanks, stuck the coin down his sock, laughed and run on. Makes a welcome change to one of them going down as if someone hit them with a sledge hammer.

I always know it's Championship time when you're cooking the pint of stout ask the punters "Are you for Breffni tomorrow?" And they throw their eyes to heaven and answer "Ah I suppose I will.. Not but I'd say I'd be better sittin' in the feckin' house for all the good they'll do.."

- Lost every game bar one for two whole years.
- Largest Ever championship defeat, in 120 odd years, last season.
- 'Sack' Manager in mid season.
- All Star players hissyfittin and not playing for county.
Apart from that, I've no idea where my championship apathy has come from.
