What your county means to you .....
For no apparent reason I just thought I'd throw this one out ..... what does your county mean to you? Are you proud of it? Would you stand by it through thick and thin? Do you love your fellow county folk? The way you are seen by other counties? Would you back your county no matter what the odds? Never turn your back on them?
What do you not like about it - if anything! Tell all - in both GAA and social terms!

Re: What your county means to you .....
I love my county, there are no really bitter rivalries between the clubs more neighbourly rivalry and there is a health club competition in the football. Everyone knows I'm passionate about my county, I won't condone any wrong doing of any members but I will defend when I believe we are getting a hard time unfairly. My county frustrates me we have so much talent but time and again we flatter to deceive year after year I believe it is our year, I was 9 years old when we won out last Anglo-Celt and just 4 when we won out All Ireland. I have watched the video of the Donegal, Dublin and Cork games over and over but it doesn't equate to what it would be there. I hope to God I can be in Clones on the 19th of July celebrating silverware or in Croker on the 3rd Sunday celebrating Sam. Both are possible but neither are guaranteed, we are still in with a shot as it stands but I hope we can achieve something this year and banish that title of the nearly-men. If it doesn't happen there is always next year, but we've been saying that for ten years now...Doire abĂș

It's ok Boc, for fear of riding on Tyrone coat-tails! I'll sit at home and cheer you on if we fail to make it (at least no one will hear me! )

Everything!!!! thats what it means to me. i love being a dub, i love other dubs, i love anything to do with dubs. my whole usually revolves around the feckers. i love the way i refer to anybody from outside the pale as a culchie. the love the colours , blue and navy. i love the way they get my hopes up and then come crashing down , saying " ah , wait ya see nxt year". i love the way the herald dedicates 8 pages to them nearly every day. i love the way culchies give out bout us. i love our cockyness. and i love living in the greatest county ever, in the history of county's . Re: What your county means to you .....
At the minute it is a little difficult for me to get over for games. But as of next year I will be going to every game that I can possibly go to. The players put so much into preparing for their games, so it is only a small ask for the fans to turn up and cheer them on. I for one as of next season will be going to every game I can possibly go to standing there in the sun or rain shouting for Armagh, they might not be the most exciting team at the moment but it is still my county and will be there for them during the good times and the bad times. All counties put you through a rollercoaster of emotions, no matter where you are from and fans will turn out in their thousands, even if your team dosent stand a chance against the likes of Tyrone or Kerry all that matters is that you are there. Its what makes the GAA so special, it isnt an organisation - it's a community, and one that we all love.

Yeah I Meath!
The home of champions, from Ballinacree to Ballinabrackey, from Rathmoloyn to Nobber, from Killalon to Laytown, from Cortown to Drumree, champions in the west, champions in the east, champion in the north and champions in the south! This after all is the county that gave us Pierse Brosnan, the Hill of Tara, Hector, Loughcrew, Graham Geraghty, herbalists, Tommy Tiernan, Newgrange, Ollie Murphy, Slane, Johnny Murtagh, Fairyhouse, Barry Geraghty, The Palace, Mick Lyons, Tara Mines and Mattie Kerrigan. Of course the list goes on. Great county, great footballers, great hurlers, great men, great women.

Well with regard to the GAA I love the Dubs! I love the colour, the atmosphere, the crack, the banter, the hot summer days and the wins when they come and the crack after! I pray for another Sam in my lifetime – as time runs out - and I hope the hurlers can make a big breakthrough in the near future! I dislike the mob behind the goal on the Hill – they represent all that is bad about Dublin and are imbeciles and an embarrassment to us.
With regard to the city itself it can be a great place. There is so much to do and see. Dublin people are famously witty and sharp, sometimes brash and confident, and are genuinely decent - with those who have least the most generous in my opinion! Like all big cities there are problems but there is a great spirit among the people too, who are very proud of their city!
Think Brendan Behan
Think the Dubliners
Think Joyce & Wilde,
O'Casey and Roddy Doyle
Think U2 and Bagatelle
Think Stephens Green
Think Clery's
Think Mullins & Heffo
Think Giles & Brady
Think Steve Collins and Bernard Dunne
Think Geldof & Gleeson
Think BOD
Think Coughlan & Roche
Think Farrell, Fricker & Meaney
Think GPO & Leinster House
Think Bertie and Tony G
Think Dublin Blue .........

Re: What your county means to you .....
Every year we get a chance through the qualifiers to joust with strange teams from outside Connacht.
Their supporters speak with peculiar accents, are generally loud and raucous, scoff pints and are always looked on with un-founded suspicion. These "foreigners" tend to appear the day before - "Lisdoonvarna" by Christy Moore captures their mood concisely.
To date we've had Tyrone, Meath, Donegal and Dublin (not in that order mind) while we ourselves were ambushed on an away trip to Antrim.
It's amusing watching some of these folk, particularly in pubs, when 10 pints of Heineken say are ordered and the barman asks for €38. Cue shouts of "Anto, Anto.... only €38 fffin' euro..... Jayshus Anto...only €38 ...."
Actually were expecting Corkonians for a weekend later on.....
