Re: Mayo v Kerry
Plenty of encouragement there for whoever meets Kerry in the final. O'Sé destroyed at FB and Mayo made at least 5 good goal chances. On the downside with Donaghy and the O'Sullivans poor enough they still scored 1-20!

first of all anyone who knows anything about football would agree that whelan was a fantastic footballer easily in the top three midfielders when he played , only someone with a complex or a complete fool would would argue with this . as for the game today , kerry done a kerry as they usual do , and now easily favourites for the final , and what a team easily the best over the last 25 years well done kerry .

Re: Mayo v Kerry
That was some display by Kerry scored 1-20 without breaking sweat.Kerry demise is a long way off after watching that display.Once their defense got into the game they had the Mayo forwards in their back pocket..Thought Andy Moran took the battle to the kingdom on his own at times....The Cooch gave a masterclass must be one of the best players ever to have played the game.
Miss Galvin played well when she came on-had a felling when she came on that the game would open up a bit...Darren O'Sullivan has really came on this year and is one of the Leaders on the pitch now.....Will be interesting to see how they fair out against the Donegal defensive system.......

Hard Luck Mayo.
All I'll say is that all the preparation and organisation, and defensive systems cannot account for a genius. Colm Cooper is a genius.
I pity the Dublin / Donegal back who is given the responsibility of shadowing Gooch.

Do you mean top three midfielders of all time or top three of his generation Hipster?
I guess before Whelan, you had Big Tom O'Reilly, Jim McKeever, Mick O'Connell, Tommy Murphy, Jack O'Shea, Dermot Earley. Not sure if many would regard him as "greater" than any of those players.
More recently, the standout midfielders have been John McDermott, Niall Buckley, Anthony Tohill, Dara O'Se, Sean Cavanagh, Paul McGrane. Better than any of those - I'm not sure.
So a very good midfielder but there's been more than three better.

Re: Mayo v Kerry
Gooch once again shows that he is the greatest that we ever seen -
Lives in scraps for the first 20 minutes then scores the most important 3 points of the game - forget about the 1-20 the game was won when 5-3 became 8-4.
The beauty of the goal
The grace of the point off the left side
The perfection of the dummy bounce that took him inisde
All artistry that we once again had the pleasure to witness but the Sunday Game decided not to show the most sublime momemt when on the 30 minute mark he rose and fiielded a ball against two much taller men to win a free.

Re: Mayo v Kerry
Gooch has been a class act all season. An invaluable link man and scorer. Our sports journalists and some pundits (fools) write him off cos he hasn't scored as much - the weight of the captaincy they say - idiots. Jayo confidently picked him as MOTM in tipster - the man is a legend and probably the best I have ever seen.
Having seen today - if Donegal win next week the final will be a bit of a washout. Kerry will easily deal with their defensive system. If we win it could be interesting. I would not play a defensive system v Kerry - man for man the only way. Kerry were poor enough up front today and yet scored 1-19! They have no MF and cough up plenty of opportunities for forwards - Mayo left a lot of scores behind - goals especially.
If its Dublin - Kerry I think it could be very high scoring and open ... hopefully!

I hope to god Dublin beat donegal next week, I'll be wearing my Donegal jersey to downings Them donegal ones are hard to stick they need to be put back in their box! If Donegal were to progress to the final I think Kerry would beat them no bother, their lucky streak has to run out sometime! But anyways! Ath Cliath agus Ciarrai abú

Why 'Miss' Galvin?
He always looked a hardy enough boy to me. Maybe they breed them tougher and more masculine in Dublin.

Re: Mayo v Kerry
Anyone hear Liam Hayes on Off the Ball Last Night ?
He is still maintaining his Gooch wouldn't lace Colm O Rourkes boots stance
Gave Gooch 7/10 for Sundays game -
He doesn't score enough from play,
He doesn't beat his man and kick long range points
The Mayo Defending for the goal was like a bunch of ten year olds
The ball he fielded on the 30 minute mark was uncontested
Embarassing in reality - There is a point at which you just have to stop digging.

Re: Mayo v Kerry
Some guys just thrive on controversy ... Gooch is a master and probably the greatest player I have ever seen ... and he's still only 28! All the talk about the captaincy weighing him down was nonsense.
