Rugby World Cup 2011
May as well start a thread seeing as the warm up matches begin this weekend, Ireland take on Scotland while it is looking more and more likely that Gordan D'Arcy will miss out on the WC squad due to injury while Stephen Ferris is a big doubt as well while the likes of Flannery, Geordan Murphy & Rob Kearney are seriously lacking in game time. Surely to god Fergus McFadden will get a bit of gametime at 12 in the warm up games

Flanker Rennie starts against Ireland
Tuesday, 2 August 2011 13:38
Flanker Ross Rennie has been called up by Scotland for their Rugby World Cup warm-up against Ireland at Murrayfield on Saturday.
The Edinburgh forward is set to make his first start at openside flanker in a team showing five changes and one positional switch from the XV which beat Italy 21-8 in Scotland's final Six Nations fixture on 19 March.
Johnnie Beattie will start at number eight and Alasdair Strokosch completes an all-changed back row by coming in at blindside flanker, while Jim Hamilton will start at lock.
Graeme Morrison returns at inside centre, with Sean Lamont moving to wing and Simon Danielli dropping out of the 22 altogether.
Rory Lawson will captain the team, with Alastair Kellock, Scotland's skipper during the Six Nations, named on the bench.
Kellock was one of five players withdrawn from club service by Scotland head coach Andy Robinson in preparation for the World Cup.
Richie Gray, Ross Ford and Allan Jacobsen have all been named for their first competitive action since the Six Nations, but John Barclay has been left out of the matchday squad.
Two uncapped players have been named on the bench - 21-year-old Edinburgh back-row forward David Denton and 23-year-old Bath full-back Jack Cuthbert.
The Ireland Test is the first of two World Cup warm-ups for Scotland, with Italy visiting Edinburgh on August 20.
Robinson said: "In any international match there is always a huge amount at stake, but the EMC Tests take on extra significance this year as we hone our preparations for the start of the world's third biggest sporting event.
"I am a firm believer that competition brings the best out in players and I've said to the squad that it lies in their hands to make the case for their inclusion in the final 30 for New Zealand."
Robinson named a 40-man provisional World Cup squad on May 10, but Hugo Southwell and Fergus Thomson have since withdrawn injured.
Eight further players will be dropped from the squad before the final party for New Zealand is named on August 22.
Scotland's World Cup campaign begins against Romania on September 10 in Invercargill.
Scotland team to play Ireland at Murrayfield on Saturday, August 6 (kick-off 2.15pm):
C Paterson (Edinburgh); N Walker (Ospreys), J Ansbro (London Irish), G Morrison (Glasgow Warriors), S Lamont (Scarlets); R Jackson (Glasgow Warriors), R Lawson (Gloucester); A Jacobsen (Edinburgh), R Ford (Edinburgh), G Cross (Edinburgh), J Hamilton (Gloucester), R Gray (Glasgow Warriors), A Strokosch (Gloucester), J Beattie (Glasgow Warriors), R Rennie (Edinburgh).
Replacements: D Hall (Glasgow Warriors), A Dickinson (Sale Sharks), A Kellock (Glasgow Warriors), D Denton (Edinburgh), G Laidlaw (Edinburgh), N De Luca (Edinburgh), J Cuthbert (Bath).

Re: Rugby World Cup 2011
It'll be interesting to see how Kearney and Flannery go in the friendlies. And to see if anyone picks up a dreaded injury at this stage. Build up seems very low key - typical Kidney - and a good idea IMO.
South Africa looking weak in Tri Nations with Kiwis looking good - be interesting to see how they go v Oz this weekend (in the world's second most important fixture!)
Martin Johnson certainly wielding a big axe across the pond but no matter who he brings they will be nowhere near the top prize.

Re: Rugby World Cup 2011
Well the second half was entertaining enough but what did Deccie learn? Buckley should only be on the plane if he is a steward serving drinks. Not up to it at all and a disaster again tonight. Between him and McCourt I really worry if our 1 or 3 get injured. I'd bring Hayes and Horan before either of them. Surely there is some big strapping lad heaving cocks of hay around somewhere that could do this job.
Trimble is a must. Paddy Wallace another waste of space. The guy is simply not good enough. Not sure about Fitzgerald either - though his versatility may get him a place ... mind you not sure he's up to it in any position. Reddan another I would not bring.
Biggest disappointment tonight was our set-piece. In the 2nd half we had at least 2 brilliant attacking lineout positions and at least 2 great scrum positions - and blew them all. The lineout was a shambles in the first half too.
Turning point for me was O'Gara penalty at 12-13. I felt we had them under the cosh and should have gone for the lineout. We elected to shoot, missed and it re-energised them.
All in all some positive signs. But the Northern Hemisphere teams are in for some shock at the breakdowns when they meet the All Blacks and Aussies.

Re: Rugby World Cup 2011
Anyone see the second string last night?
Id say Paddy Wallace will be brought on the basis of his versatility, Fitzgerald is a complete disaster and a discipline nightmare for fouling.
Good to see ferris on the bench this week, very dissappointed we wont see wallace though, think hes a class act.
Trimble has been flying for a while and a good season with ulster last year has done him well.

Wallace is a numpty - end of! The only reason he should go to New Zealand is if he's a builder.

Why not, apart from D'Arcy we don't have any other natural inside centre's and it would be very foolish to waste a squad spot to bring a third choice out half like Keatley who isn't up to this level either

Re: Rugby World Cup 2011
Keatley will be left home. There are many permutations that more than cover any role Paddy Wallace may have - incl Trimble, Earls and Bowe better options ..
Would you bring Conor Murray? Or if you are bringing three 9s who would they be?
