On BBC2 10 to 10.30 OMAR - hope you caught it! Unbelievable stuff! Maybe we should start playing a bit more cricket here. If we can do this with a handful of players imagine what Eddie, King Henry, Mullane, Ben & Jerry etc could be like!! Balrothery the place to be tonight!

It's a bit like 6 points down with 10 minutes left and they're down to 12 men (unable to score) and pulling cunning stunts like pulling late a'la Tommy Walsh.....
As an addendum, all we have now in the forward line are a couple of converted half-backs/dogged midfielders battling on, imbued with the ne're say die spirit of a younger Gerry Flanagan..
Try saying that quickly with ten pints of porter in you.

Caught it alright - I thought as always that the Beeb commentators were very gracious in defeat - They almost seemed to be willing Ireland to a win - Can't imagine our crowd being as cheerful if Rooney got a hat-trick to overturn a 2-0 lead with ten minutes left.

Great stuff indeed! Unbelieveable comback and, when you consider by how much he shattered the record, O'Brien's innings might never be bettered.
Great to see it, and finally, after the gutless rubbish the rugby and soccer have served up in recent years, we have an Irish side to be proud of!

Being honest Jayo, I felt it was a Grand Slam by default, with England in the doldrums and France rebuilding. Sort of like stumbling over the line, after all those near misses during the decade. Deserved certainly, based on consistency over the years, but hardly impressive. When I think of the Irish rugby team, I'm thinking more of the debacle in the 2007 World Cup, when hopes were high but the results were dreadful. Not an admirer, of POC, BOD, Podge & Rodge and the rest, I'm afraid.

Respectable enough showing. Can't be easy playing in those conditions against the home team with a full house against you. Dockrell even got Tendulkar. A couple more wickets before they got to 150 (they were 100-4) and who knows - but good effort nonetheless.

Aye HG! Assuming we will beat Netherlands then we will need to beat either Sth Africa or the Windies to make the Top 4 in the group. I think we have a better chance of beating the Windies but will need a massive performance!

Re: Cricket thread
Some hit by the Kiwi birthday boy here ............
Ross Taylor marked his 27th birthday with a spectacular century in Pallekele as New Zealand thrashed Pakistan by 110 runs to go top of World Cup Group A.
Taylor, missed twice early on by keeper Kamran Akmal, began slowly but launched seven late sixes in his 131 not out.
In an amazing assault, the Kiwis hit 92 from the last four overs to post 302-7, with Taylor smashing 62 off 16 balls and Jacob Oram scoring 25 off nine.
Pakistan lost four early wickets as they slumped to 192 all out.
