Ireland out of the blocks today and facing co-hosts Bangladesh! The element of surprise may be gone but we can still cause a few upsets I think! Good to see Charlie, Bernard and Paul McGrath supporting the team too!
Bangladesh currently 173 for 8 off 44 overs - good opportunity for Ireland here! Lovely too to see we have three players called Johnston, Mooney and O'Brien!

Keep up there dear man - I have already posted 173 for 8 off 44 overs above!
Now 187-8 off 46.3 overs! A wicket now would be great!

196-9 after 48.2 overs! Real good chance here on a track that should be yielding 250+

Bangladesh all out for 205 off 49.2 overs. A good steady start now needed. It is not a big total for 50 overs! C'mon ye Boys in Green!

89 to win off 120 balls with 5 wickets left .... and a volatile home crowd to contend with

Can you translate those scored into GAA terms for those of us who don't follow the sport?

Re: Cricket thread
Gone pear-shaped! 171-8 off 42 overs!
They got 205 - we need 206. We have to score 35 off 48 balls - but with our tail end ie 3 weakest batsmen! Not looking good at all!

What a game - 338 all or what ever the proper term is - Dramatic six in the last over
Englad were cruising till Strauss was dismissed and looked to have blown it with 2 overs left

Maggie Thatcher, Ian Botham, Tony Blair, Fred Trueman, Geoffrey Boycott!! Your boys took a helluva beating!!
What an astonishing result! And no fluke ... Kevin O'Brien scored 100 off 50 balls - quickest century ever at the Cricket WC and the run chase was the biggest ever too. As someone said it's like England beating Ireland at hurley. And that after giving them our best player! Superb! Jayo will teach ye heathens about cricket yet.
Johnston, Mooney & O'Brien toast England - luvverly!

Re: Cricket thread
Just to put Kevin O'Brien's innings into perspective (100 from 50 balls) here's the next best - he's left world class players trailing in his wake!
FASTEST WORLD CUP CENTURIES
50 balls - K O'Brien v Eng 2011
66 balls - M Hayden v SA, 2007
67 balls - J Davison v WI, 2003
72 balls - Kapil Dev v Zim, 1983
72 balls - A Gilchrist v SL, 2007
Oh and Ireland were 400/1 to win on the exchanges (and taken apparently by some) during the run chase at 113-5! If you can go on to the BBC Cricket page (As It Happened) - its an online commentary (including texts etc) - hilarious to watch the mood change from gloating to patronising to worry to despair! Essential reading!

Did the same myself - went to the UK media first to read the headlines -
Even better though I heard the update on NEwstalk at 115-5 odd and then when I got back to work put up the txttalk on BBC without knowing the result. Presume its on BBC2 or somewhere tonight ? My sky has been subject to Austerity measures

It's a bit like 6 points down with 10 minutes left and they're down to 12 men (unable to score) and pulling cunning stunts like pulling late a'la Tommy Walsh.....
As an addendum, all we have now in the forward line are a couple of converted half-backs/dogged midfielders battling on, imbued with the ne're say die spirit of a younger Gerry Flanagan..
