But it already looks class! And they can't really build anything more over the Hill with the train tracks behind it and the houses.

Re: Hill 16
You dont have to build at the train tracks or you could do what theyve done in american stadiums and build a tunnell for them with a station at at the ground.
The hill was special, i agree but the new hill isnt the same, the history of the 1916 rubble etc isnt the same anymore im not saying scrap it but modernise it, make the exact same stand thats at the canal end and make no seating in the bottom tier.

Well I was never on the old Hill so I can't really compare but I think it's important for us to keep it as a terrace, but maybe putting an upper seated tier over it might not be the end of the world.

Like in Thomand Park? I'll judge the hill after Sunday.

I was at the official religious commissioning of the Hill ... some bishop (think it was D Martin) sprayed a bit of (Dutch Gold?) on it and blessed it. I dunno if he uttered the immortal words 'may all who occupy this fine terrace be alive but also late ....' but sure that's the way. Anyway I have a bit of marble with a bit of rubble from the old Hill stuck on it somewhere (with a needle in it - not! ) ... think it was 14 March 2005 ?????

By the look of the Nally stand it looks like they lack space in that corner. I was always of the belief that they left the hill the way it is to let in natural sunlight.

It lets the air in for drainage of the pitch sure

The Hill has never been developed cos of planning - resident objections etc. Similarly the Bath Ave end of Landsdowne is a bit of a joke size wise. Would like if both had been done (finished) better but I don't live in their shadow so I am not going to gripe about people who bought a house to live in and not to become an accessory to a sports stadium.
ps Buy them all out now ... houses are cheap ..

Jason are you saying you're in favour of them wrecking the hill...? What kind of a Dub are you?!

Re: Hill 16
No but I think the stadium should have been finished better - only local people who live in its shadow objected - and that is their right. Ideally I would love to see the upper stand wrapped all around the ground (mind you it doesn't keep you dry!) I would've kept terracing at the Hill end - for all fans. The only reason terracing has disappeared is to do with English soccer problems ... not something we have had to concern ourselves with Thank God. Though I have had a few uncomfortable occasions in the old Croker .. and Dalymount .. and Landsdowne.

I like Croke Park as it is now, I don't remember old Croke Park or the old Hill but like I hope they don't change it...

Surely the fencing around the old hill was dangerous around All Ireland time.

Just wondering Jayo... do you know any members of the (in)famous Croke Park Residents Association?
Two work colleagues live on Clonliffe Road, and have had one or two "interesting" encounters with one of the organisers.
I've not got a huge amount of sympathy for the resident's arguments in the first place (they can hardly claim they didn't spot the stadium there when they moved in!), but the reports from the lads have wiped the last traces of it!

Re: Hill 16
I think a strong reason why the hill wasn't, nor ever will be, developed to the same design as the rest of the ground is due to CIE/ Irish Rail.
I remember going on the stadium through school as a gassun where the Guide said that Croke Park lease the 'airspace' ( ) off Irish rail at the canal end. And also IR would not be willing to allow development on the other side as it would cause far too much disruption on on such a essential piece of infrastructure with no benefit to them.

b&w - know people who live around there but don't know if they are the voiciferous ones ... probably not - they are usually the newbies! I hear they are quite 'demanding' though and not everyone gets the same (he who shouts loudest etc ...)

Re: Hill 16
At the rugby last year V South Africa they had SEATS on the Hill.
Brilliant. You could go for a gypsy's kiss or a coffee or a drink, and still have somewhere to come back to.
Much more civilised and a great view.
