Hill 16
So the GAA are finally considering making Hill 16 an all-seater due to health and safety reasons based on the fact of people getting hurt during pitch invasions. Insurance premiums have soared in recent years for Croke park so the GAA are contemplating making it an all-seater!
I totally agree, the Dubs have ruled that hill for too long! Although, I do have fond memories of 2006 of the Semi-Final! Perhaps a bit of the atmosphere will be reduced if this goes ahead, but I think it is for the best for visual reasons. I mean, Croke park is magnificent already, but if it was fully completed it'd look fantastic!
I'm interested particularly in Jayo's point of view!

Re: Hill 16
I agree and disagree with this one. Whilst Croke Park will look excellent all-seater, a terrace is quite a unique thing in large sports stadiums these days. Unsure if the 'Hill 16 legacy' kind of idea will continue if it is all-seater, it may end up not being as attractive to the Dubs.

i have to say i'd be all for keeping the Hill standing - given the choice i'd prefer to stand for a match it saves all this getting up and down when something happens during a game. But my main reason for preferring to stand is that it would save the hassle of assholes who want in and out past you for the entire game - up and down like a fooking yoyo at times during games. Last game i was at if it wasnt Biffo going out past for a pint it was Mary McAleese looking out for a stiff one

The Germans still use terrace in the Bundesliga, maybe they should make it into smaller sections and have more stewards.

if them Dub fans knew they had a seat reserved for them they might stay even longer in the pub and throw-ins could be delayed by days

Re: Hill 16
Is is fair though, to let the Dublin crowd dominate the Hill?
No matter who Dublin play, it is always filled with Dublin fans. For an opposition player taking a shot into those goals, it is the most off-putting thing to have hundreds and hundreds of Dubs putting you off.
That, I'm afraid is not fair. Not that I'm against the historic Hill, but surely it should be a mixed crowd.

could be worse, you could be a dub shooting into the hill end and miss a sitter like Ray Cosgrove.

well that's debatable really isn't it, I would assume that that is the same with any home crowd, there are just a lot more Dublin fans in one place which I suppose is the basic of your point there.

Doesn't seem to have put many off since 1995!
I think it should stay standing though. I like having this great stadium and there at the end a terrace, it's a nod to the past.

In fairness Samin - Cosgrove's was not an easy chance and he hit the bar as far as I remember. I think tickets are issued (or offered to issue) to the counties playing Dublin but they usually send them back. Not sure the Hill is an advantage to Dublin at all - and there's a lot of idiots on it too!

There's the crux of the issue Sami, Dublin are not supposed to be the home team when playing in Croke Park. The argument for the Dubs always playing in Croker is that it's a neutral venue, as Parnell Park is their home ground, and that every county has equal ownership of HQ.
Given population and location, it's understandable that the Dubs will outnumber any county that they come up against, but reserving one particular area as "Dublin only" reeks of favouritism, and completely contradicts the neutrality of the venue

Hill tickets are offered to every county board regardless if the dubs are playing or not. 99% of the county boards return them. Easiest thing in the world is to get a hill ticket against the dubs hardest is staying there especially if your winning!

Re: Hill 16
The issue I see getting more coverage will be the ticket cost. Punters from all counties are going to be more consious of ticket prices. Why should other counties not have the option of a cheaper ticket if they are playing the dubs?
On a seperate point, why do the county boards return the hill tickets? Do they get to keep part of the price?

i suggest a coup of Hill 16 next year to be organised by Loyal - the other 31 counties will unite to overthrown the Dubs of the Hill.
It would need to be done before the All Ireland Q/Fs though.....................
