Paul Curran - Tommy Drumm - Keith Barr
Brian Mullins - Ciaran Whelan
Barney Rock - Tony Hanahoe - Paul Clarke
Charlie Redmond - Jimmy Keaveney - Jason Sherlock
Nowhere near L - not even since 1970 is it near. No Hickeys? Dessie?
I looked at it myself and felt it was a poor team. What is yours?
Stephen Cluxton
Denis O'Mahony - Lar Foley - Robbie Kelleher
Tommy Drumm - Kevin Moran - Eamon Heery
Brian Mullins - Des Foley
David Hickey - Tony Hanahoe - Anton O'Toole
Kevin Heffernan - Jimmy Keaveney - Bernard Brogan
Well that would be my 1st XI

A better effort than Loyal's indeed, and a good team overall. Personally, I'd have O'Leary over Cluxton, and would take Paul Curran over Heery. I'd also fit Ollie Freaney in somewhere, but not sure at whose expense. Maybe Anton's.

Personally i believe Cluxton is the best keeper i have ever seen/But i did think about Curran/Freaney a lot - But I just gave Heery/Anton the nod there..

Re: Dublin GG News
One interesting thing in your side Mullins, is the lack of anyone from the 1995 side, with Heery being the closest (retired 92/93?).
At the risk of reopening a debate on which my views are well documented here, perhaps your selection indicates that you too don't rate those guys as highly as the boys of the 50s, 70s or even today?
As a reminder, I always thought them a good side and great to watch, but always thought they were a couple of stars away from being great, especially in the forwards (they had some excellent half-backs). Not stirring here, just curious to see where you would place that team against some of the other fine sides Dublin have had?

5 Leinster Finals
One win - one loss. Would be hopeful of at least two more and possibly three!

Really? Remind me in what years you would have received a 2nd chance via the back door system. As I recall it, Dublin's defeats at that time usually came in finals/semis, long after the back door would have been shut.

Tc i believe i picked what i thought was the best 15 since the 50s IMO..Now you can look at that anyway you want but i believe the team i picked, wasn't being disrespectful to the team of the 90s just because i picked 1 player from that era......The 90s team will go down as 1 of the great team's to Dublin supporters_Not easy to reach 3 finals in 4 years..
As for the Back -Door in the 90s -Dessie made reference to it in his book that he believed in 96 if that option was available-he believed they could have recovered regrouped and giving it a go...

Re: Dublin GG News
A fair answer Mullins.
For what it's worth, I would have Curran in my side, and O'Leary also, so that would be 2 for me from the early 90s. But when you line the names up side-by-side with Heffo's team of the 70s, or even the very best of the 50s, I just don't think the individuals in the 90s were as strong, particularly in midfield/attack.
I guess that has always been my point on the 90s side.

well its simple really teams back then put it all in for the provencial , but today its not as important so i would imagine after meath knocked them out in the four game saga and in 96 also so i would reakon dublin would have won 3 all irelands if we had a back door back then but its all speculation really

I think Meath would have won it in '92, '93, '94 and '95. But I'm only speculating.............

Féile Peile na nÓg:
Kilmacud Crokes and St Judes both exited the Féile competition on score difference despite both sides being unbeaten in the competition. Well done to both sets of players and their management teams who were excellent ambassordors for the captital. Congratulations to Ballymun Kickhams on winning the division one boys title.
Great win for Paddy Christie and his young Ballymun side...I heard their wasn't a pie ball ridden on Saturday night...

Re: Dublin GG News
Just hoping somebody might enlighten me with regards suspensions etc. Eoghan O'Gara got a long suspension after Kerry league match. Got two yellows + red v Kildare. Maybe the rules have changed but in 2006 kieran Donaghy got two yellows in Munster Final but got a match suspension because he already had been red carded(two yellows) in the league. I thought that if you had already served a suspension and received a red card(even two yellows) a further ban would take place.

“ . . . Martin O’Connell wins it beside the corner flag, Cusack Stand side of the ground, gets it inside to Mick Lyons, Mick Lyons is tackled, holds on to the ball, comes to the 14-yard line, kicks it out to the far side of the field to Mattie McCabe, who releases it to Liam Harnan . . . they’re driving up the centre . . . out comes Colm O’Rourke, Colm O’Rourke goes to the ground, is fouled – we’ve a minute and a quarter left – and the free is taken out towards this side of the field to David Beggy, 60 yards out, he has it, 55 yards out, gets it to Kevin Foley on the 50-yard line, Kevin Foley gets it inside to PJ Gillic . . . PJ Gillic to Tommy Dowd, 21 yards out, Tommy Dowd gets it inside to Colm O’Rourke, back to Tommy Dowd, Tommy Dowd gets it to Kevin Foley and IT’S A GOAL! A GOAL! And we’re level again. Incredible! . . . we’re within 30 seconds of the end of the most incredible series of football matches that were ever played in any code the world over . . . ”

Re: Dublin GG News
I was above in Beaumont Hospital for the 4th game! Broke me wrist playing a soccer match v the National Lottery. Only break I ever got off the fookers! Had one of them external fixators with 4 screws into the bone - two of them were close together - great for picking your nose. If I had a euro for every time someone asked me could I get Sky on it I'd be a rich man!
Always remember the brother coming in to visit the next day. Three of us used to go to all games together - still do but with kids now! And back to Gravediggers (well known tapas bar in Glasnevin!)
I said - ye must have got fair pi55ed last night. No he says - we got a pint and sat down and looked at each other and drank it slowly. Ne'er a word. Another pint was bought - same deal. Up hops the buddy on completion - right off home sez he and onto the bike and out to Tallaght with him. Slán says the bro. We have spoke about it since on many of our normal 10 pint after match sessions. Delayed shock we reckon.

Saw Paddy walking down Drumcondra Road with the Kickham's lads after the game. Hasn't aged a bit and still looks as fit as a butcher's dog.
