‘Team Cian’ design jersey for Children’s Hospice fund-raiser
Cian Corrigan, from Dungannon, passed way on May 8 2009, just six weeks short of 12th birthday from a very rare malignant spinal cord tumour and just six months after being diagnosed.
Cian was born in Rush in north county Dublin and became an avid fan of the Dublin team. That bond and connection with Dublin remains as Cian’s grandfather and uncle still live in Dublin. When Cian was eight his family moved from Dublin to Dungannon, Tyrone, where he became immersed in the Tyrone GAA scene. He played for Dungannon Thomas Clarke’s Under-10 team and he loved nothing more than being on the pitch, playing for his beloved club. The GAA was an integral part of his life.
It was the cruelest of blows, while waiting for surgery to remove the tumour, Cian was rendered quadraplegic, his tumour having ruptured whilst in hospital. This was an incredibly difficult thing for Cian to deal with as it became clear that he would never run onto a pitch again.
However, during this time the wider GAA community were so supportive of Cian and his family and together with the Royal Victoria Hospital for Sick Children and the Northern Ireland Ambulance Service they worked to bring Cian down to Croke Park to watch Tyrone play Dublin in the NFL and to join in the 125th Anniversary Celebrations. This was to be the last match Cian attended.
His love of the Dublin, Tyrone and Dungannon Thomas Clarke GFC teams inspired his family to design a jersey in his memory. The ‘Team Cian’ jersey is a combination of his three beloved teams and his favourite no 7.
The family worked with O’Neills on designing the jersey and secured approval from the Tyrone and Dublin County Boards to use their respective crests creating this unique one-off jersey in his memory. The family take great comfort and immense pride to see the jersey on so many people in the Dungannon area and beyond.
All proceeds from the sale of the jerseys go to the Northern Ireland Children’s Hospice which helped Cian and the family so much both during his illness and after his passing.
Nice story but very sad may Cian RIP

RIP Cian.
I presume the jersey is on open sale. Might help to prolong the Summer - I ain't saying which way though!

Dublin have delayed named their team for Saturday’s vital Allianz NHL Division 1 clash with Kilkenny at Croke Park owing to their injury situation.
Conor McCormack (broken bone in hand) and Joey Boland (metarsal) were the latest injury victims to add to a list that also includes the likes of Alan McCrabbe, David Treacy, Conor Clinton and Shane Stapleton.
While Maurice O’Brien has returned to training but is not expected to be considered for this weekend’s action against last year’s beaten All-Ireland finalists.
Peter Kelly is available again for selection after missing the games against Wexford and Galway owing to a shoulder injury.

Dublin team for Sunday v Galway shows five changes from last week. Stephen Cluxton is rested with what is thought to be a sore wrist from his activities of last week which had nothing to do with the GAA and is replaced by Michael Savage. Paul Casey also returns and Sean Murray starts in midfield!!! Pat Burke and Bernard Brogan make the starting line-up too. Can't understand why Giller persists with the Brogan fella - he is clearly not up to this standard .....

Re: Dublin GG News
Have to say Pat Fox had a poor day sending of A Brogan for a nothing incident- and then at the start of the second half BB had a point flagged wide that was 2 ft inside the post..Umpires fooked up big time
Now i know it was a nothing game for Dublin- But 2 decisions like this in August could mean a sharp exit..
On the + side it was good to play 65 mins against Galway with 14 men..Better than any training session..
Dublin are flying at the moment when you get bastic sticking a line ball over the bar- you know thing are going well.Murray had a good day in Midfield looks a real find..
Paul Brogan stepped up to the Mark and has giving giller more options at the back...
As for being a 1 man team Dublin scored 16-82 in the league campaign BB got 1-20 these stats must surely dismiss that rubbish......

In fairness to Gilroy he seems to have done the right thing in setting his team up around speed and work rate...
However I would not get over excited we know how hype surrounds the dubs and it is only the league I would not stick my money on them just yet!

Its A Boy
It’s a boy. Two weeks after the arrival of its latest , Dublin Star The Zoo today finally revealed details about the baby gorilla's sex.
Keepers have apparently been inundated with questions about the infant from inquisitive onlookers.
The young gorilla was “cradled non-stop” by its doting mother Lena in the immediate days after his birth that even keepers were unable to identify the baby’s sex.
"We were just as eager to find out the sex of the newborn as much as everyone else," said the team leader responsible for the gorillas, Ciaran McMahon.
"I'm delighted to say that both mum and baby are doing extremely well. Lena is such an experienced mother that we have every confidence in her nurturing and rearing a healthy baby boy," he said.
The baby western lowland gorilla, yet to be named, was born last month, weighing just 1.81kg.
The infant joined a band of five gorillas at the zoo, which includes two siblings: Alfie, who was born in 2003 and Evindi, who was born three years later.
The gorilla’s father Harry, a 24-year-old silverback weighing an impressive 205kg, is said to be keeping a protective eye on his new charge.
The gorillas are due to be moved from their antiquated enclosure in the main section of the campus to a new rainforest habitat in the African Plains area in September.
The western lowland sub-species of gorilla are classified as critically endangered by the International Union for Conservation of Nature and Natural Resources.
The number of these impressive ground-dwelling primates is estimated to have fallen by more than 80 per cent in the wild as a result of commercial hunting and the highly contagious Ebola virus.

Re: Dublin GG News
I wonder will Gilroy opt for scoring assistance for Bernard Brogan come championship, e.g. Mossy Quinn, Alan Brogan, Diarmuid Connolly, Kevin McMenamin, all of whom are quite capable of carrying out their defensive duties but more renowned as score-getters. Or will he be more empirical and stick to what served him well last year, such as David Henry, Bryan Cullen, Paul Flynn, Eoghan O'Gara and a replacement for the injured Niall Corkery. Gilroy's certainly given himself plenty of options, that's for sure, both in terms of personnel and tactics.
Also would it be a worry that anytime Dublin are brought up now, people are quick to point out all the injured stars, yet the uninjured ones managed to garner 13 points in the League? Are we deluding ourselves thinking that Dublin will be any better when Rory O'Carroll, Ross McConnell, Ross O'Carroll, Philly McMahon, Mark Davoren, Michael Dara McAuley, Eoghan O'Gara and these type of guys return? My experiences would indicate that Dublin should (and probably will) stick to the players who played in the League.

Don't agree Loyal at least half of the team used in the league are squad players/but could play a part in leinster....BUT
When you get to the last 8 their won't be a lot of difference from last year....
Maybe Connolly -P Brogan..
As far as i know Corkery is living in London and off the panel....

Six One News: 12 coaches damaged in Co Dublin fire
Gardaí have launched an investigation into a fire at a private bus tour company in Dublin in which at least 12 coaches were damaged.
It is understood the fire on the Naas Road in Dublin may have been started deliberately.
The fire is believed to have started shortly after 5am at Dualway, a private coach tour operator based at an industrial park on the Naas Road in Rathcoole.
Three units of the Dublin Fire Brigade are still dealing with the fire at the company's depot and head office - where its fleet of coaches and other vehicles is kept.
At least 12 buses have been damaged in the blaze.
A spokesperson for the company this morning said the buses in its fleet were worth between €30,000 and €250,000 each, however the cost or extent of the damage is not yet known.
Dualway operates sightseeing tours of Dublin, and also provides open top buses for Dublin Gaa when needed.
The company, which has been in existence for over 30 years, employs 90 people.
The Dualway group operates City Sightseeing Tours in Dublin and Kilkenny and Gray Line Tours in Ireland.
It also operates some local bus services in West Dublin including school bus services
