Not helpful poddy, not when we are tryin to defend the actions of the Blue Army. This is a serious issue because no doubt come next years campaign we will be under a higher level of scrutiny now after all the fallout from saturday. We aren't gonna change the way we support the team, but insulting people who genuinely are here to discuss the subject is stupid and will win us even less fans, where in fact we should be being praised for the colour and fun we brought to every game this year.

Well I'm just glad a few things have been learned:
1) Cathal Murray's Blue Army in the stands will follow their football team the length and breadth of the country in large numbers and Gaelic games could do with more of this kind of devotion.
2) Violet Hill men are passionate about Gaelic football. It is the pulse of the school and therefore they will defend their vocal supporters passionately.
3) The Blue Army aren't quiet. They like to light flares and set off smokebombs. The past pupils like to organise the notorious wine buses. General abuse will be hurled. The Abbey will be hated. Stewards will hate us. Older people will tut at us. The Abbey will get more abuse.
4)Since the Blue Army became a popular group for pupils and past pupils around 2006 (the darkest year Gaelic football history when the Abbey stabbed their way to the Hogan Cup) the College has returned to its rightful place as Ulster's premier footballing school.
5)The Abbey is brutal
We are the most loyal fans in the country and f*** we really get people talking! I salute my fellow Blues for how they have jumped to the supporters' defence.
Next year....let's see even more smoke bombs! yaaaa

We know we aren't hooligans. Not being biased or anything but at worst it was 'misbehaviour'.....I think we've all tried to be as sensible and lighthearted about this as possible but Swindon's original post is a heap of rubbish and full of wild exaggerations. We're boys from South Down, South Armagh, and Lurgan; we're rough around the edges, we can't sit still, we're cheeky, our da's were all in the 'ra (lol).
But we're still one of the top schools in the country both academically and in sport. Looks like we're doing something right.

Blue Army in the Stands
I was present at Saturdays game and I think it will go down as one of the best days of my life. I have followed St. Colman's not only throughout my time at the school but through the years after i left. One thing that must be said is that the reason a handful of lads began running these buses outside the school was due to the schools lack of support given to those who wanted to cheer on their friends. From these buses began to be organised the support for the team it must be said that general support within the school increased until we reach the point we are now at where Croke Park saw a crowd of hundreds come into the ground as one......not hooligans....supporters who were united.
This brings me to the first point on the idiotic behaviour of the stewards taking twenty minutes before they would open up a small section of the stand to allow these supporters to sit together. They asked us to sit.....never in my life have I been to any sport and been asked to sit for the duration. The actions of the stewards were stupid and I was approached several times by the same steward and threatened with being escorted out for doing nothing but standing and supporting my team, i was not blocking anyone's view because i can guarantee that once i stood the people behind me stood aswell! People need to drop this idea that the St Colman's support showed hooligans....what it showed was passion, unity and overall it displayed how much these titles mean to us as past and present students.
With regard to the arrests at the end let me just point out that i have been on the fireld at Croke Park on several occassions as an Armagh supporter. Let me guarantee you there was a full capacity crowd present on those days so explain to me how if the gates were opened on those days how a small section of supporters were going to do any real damage to warrant such behaviour by officials.
I personally witnessed one Steward, who I have no shame in referring to as an bewildered looking f*ck*r, pushing a boy of around 16/17 to the ground in the stand. This kind of behaviour is only going to antagonise a crowd in any situation.
I do believe that there were times things went beyond the 'norm' but not once would i call the support showed on the day anything but pure brilliant.
As for the idiot that started this debate with his article......I'll just say Mike where the F*ck was your match report, begrudge the victory all you want by concentrating on the actions of a few fans and over selling this idea of 'hooliganism'. Mike you missed the most important point.....to those lads playing on one of the biggest occassions of their lives i can personally guarantee that when they think back on the support they recieved it would chill.
St.Colman's are back and it's been too long. I have watched countless defeats but never ever have i stopped supporting, and my behaviour has been the same at every single game I have attended...that of a passionate supporter, don't call me a thug, don't call me a hooligan. I'm Blue Army and i have my reasons. Those who rekindled this level of support all those years ago should be thanked not attacked!!!

for all the guys on here defending St Colmans supporters (and i wasnt at the game so i am not taking sides as to who was right and who was wrong) ask yourselves this, had you been beaten and the other team supporters behaved with the 'passion; you guys did and give bad manners to your manager (which i think is fair to say did happen some of you admitted yourselves) what would your reaction have been??

We would have made so much noise that our manager would never have heard them....all he would be hearing is how much everyone hates the Abbey.
St. Pat's Armagh support were non-existent
St. Pat's Dungannon tried it on......they were swiftly silenced.
Omagh CBS tried their little hearts out God love them.
St. Gerald's Castlebar......just never had a hope.
As the Facebook status of one of the arrested lads says; "WE HAD OUR FUN AND THAT'S ALL THAT MATTERS" ..yeeoo
this thread is great. keep it going! No-one had ever heard of gaatipster.ie til that Swindon eejit posted that. Hope the site isn't blocked for the present pupils in school! We've taken the Hogan and now we're taking the internet. BLUE ARRRRMY

Re: Hogan Cup final - St. Colman's supporters
I would just like to congratulate St. Colman's on their fantastic victory - sorry demolition - on Saturday. And congratulations to the supporters for their fantastic support as well. People can label us hooligans if they want but we did our job fantasticly well. As supporters it was our aim to be heard cheering our team on - it seems the entire country heard us!
People here claim that Galvin was given a very hard time. Ask yourself these questions - how many times has a referee received the same or worse abuse from supporters? And how many of these people have you labelled hooligans? Bear in mind they are not teenagers, and did not throw (a harmless) smoke grenade! I believe your answers will be 'plenty' and 'none'.
This isn't anti-ulster - its ageism! Although there was a 'slight' hint of the former from the stewards! Telling supporter to sit down at a football match is absolute crazy! Correct me if i'm wrong but I thought I saw one or two St. Brendan's fans standing up as well! The horror! Such hooligans! But did the stewards give them dogs abuse?
People also claim that all the parents and teachers were disgusted at our behaviour. All of the parents and teachers I have spoken to were amazed at our immense support and shocked at the attitude of the stewards to a few excited fans after the final whistle. Are hand-cuffs and several Gardai really necessary for a 15 year old?
We shall return for our trophy next year, although i take it that the final will not be in Croke next year, as no-one is allowed to touch it's sacred ground! Not even a GAA supporter at an All-Ireland final! Hope the stewards cop on that supporters should be allowed to celebrate after a final. Its a natural thing you know! The stewards in Casement on St. Patrick's Day just told the fans they were not getting onto the field before the final whistle had blown which I believe is fair enough. Then they just opened the gates to avoid anybody getting hurt. Everyone enjoyed that day out, and Austin O'Callaghan celebrated our unrivaled support. And he didn't mind the chants of his name - all in good fun!
Also to all but one of the current pupils at St. Colman's:
Where were you when we were in Cookstown!?
Blue Army 'til I die!

ArmaghMouth it's great to see yet another True Blue defending our supporters. Yeah the stewards were a joke....telling young lads to sit down when they weren't doing any harm was idiotic. And why oh why were handcuffs used?
We'll probably be at eachother's throats come the Division 2 NFL final but we're Blues Brothers for life!
And just want to say it was great to see such a strong show by both players and supporters after the College lost one of its old-guard teachers Thomas Hollywood several weeks ago. Tommy was a great man and devoted to the school. A true gentleman. Ar dhéis Dé go raibh a anam.

Seems a bit odd using this phrase. Sounds a bit, I dunno, loyalist-ish!
It seems to be only stewards and people who did not attend the match who are branding us as hooligans. Can you people honestly say you never did worse 'when you were young' (break out guitar solo!)
I hope to see you at future matches, early on a Saturday morning, in some hole, in the middle of nowhere (otherwise known as Downpatrick!) next year. And I will be at your throat at the Division 2 final - but I might be branded a hooligan for doing so as I am a teenager!

Re: Hogan Cup final - St. Colman's supporters
I am glad to have been present as the college re-claimed the hogan and can say I am proud to have been a part of the monumental support St. Colman's received and i must agree with the opinion that the original post on this thread is a complete over-reaction, although I understand that everyone is entitled to their own opinion. I believe the performance of the stewards on the day was pitiful. I have for the past 3 years stewarded at Oxegen music festival, an event at which true hooliganism is witnessed and yet i have never witnessed stewards aggravate a situation like they did on saturday! For someone to be arrested for merely attempting to walk on the famous turf of Croke park is unjustifiable, surely common sense should have been adopted and the gates to the pitch should have been open!
