Sad day for Irish boxing. Would've liked to have seen him give it another go but if he feels his time is now then the very best of luck to him in his future career.
A great battler in the ring, an absolute gentleman outside of it.

Seemed like a nice enough chap. I respect his family focus and hope he made enough money to keep him for a few years.

Hopefully he won't make any daft radio ads like his media shy namesake, only he can say Dunne 16 times in 20 seconds!

Clash - I think that depends on how much money you need. I reckon I could provide for my family forever with 2 months of John Terry's wage. Something sick about that.........

Sorry to hear of Bernard's retirement but in his own interest probably the right decision.always liked him and was always proud of his nationality and anthem. Good luck Bernard. Bernard Dunne Retires Icon_smile

Well his world title win was second only to the Six Nations Grand Slam as the biggest fluke in Irish sporting history. Someone was looking down on us that day. When he came up against Kiko Martinez and Poonsawat Kratingdaenggym, i.e. half decent fighters, he was stuffed in a couple of rounds. He did win claim a couple of notable scalps in Esham Pickering and Felix Machado but his defeat of Ricardo Cordoba was a huge surprise. For whatever reason, Cordoba just didn't show up that night and all Dunne had to do was keep his composure. He's not to badly off for money I wouldn't think particularly with RTE giving him a few gigs alongside Jim Rock and Mick Dowling. I'd say he'll do a lot of work for them on the big Irish fight nights.
