Re: liam mc hale 'the ego'
"Ego" can be wrongly confused with confidence. And much success in sport is dependent on confidence.
A fine example was when I lived in England and GB made the Davis cup final against a John McEnroe led US of A.
Mac was interviewed and asked his opinion of the outcome.
"We will win 5-0 said John"
All in the pub shouted "big head" or variations to that effect.
I asked well what do you all think? They all said "5-0 to USA"
The USA duly won, 5-0.
Ego? Confidence? Reality?

Bocerty, confusing wine with roses and their timely ingestion, the weekend that's in it and all that, has risen a false hare here...Personally, i've never found McHale anything other than what you got, a fine, big strong all round lad, personable in victory, gracious in defeat and a valuable and loyal carrier of the green and red, be it in life or sport....
Shameful post from a Mod*.....

I agree. McHale was an excellent player and never had an 'ego' about him. Patrique puts it well-there's a difference between an 'ego' and confidence.
Really, the GAA is lucky that we don't have many players with egos. I can think of a few, but hopefully they'll grow out of it-if that's possible.
