Re: Will Ireland win
The french look very weak on the wings and I don't think Anelka and Henry will track back so there is potential for a 2 on 1 which they have to exploit more.

Lads - we are pretty damn poor to be quite frank. I expect a scoreline of around 3-0 - maybe then, finally, reality will hit home .... Zinedine Kilbane bound to throw one in ...

Re: Will Ireland win
You'd have to say though apart from their goalie Llorris they are pretty poor at the back, we should be able to get one at least.

No chance...2-0 to the frogs. We're unable to control the midfield area and hence unable to create openings up front.

I see the Brian Kerr programme "away with the faroes" is on. Should be good.

That downloading lark has gotten you a lot of grief Sami. Don't mention those kind of activities here again because these boyo's are all straight-laced folks you know..

i probably wont watch it Sami - thats not to say i hope they dont win, remote chance i know but i would love to see the French beat and FIFA screwed, cant stand that Blatter **** a more corrupt man i'd say you'd never meet.
And dont worry about these others hoodlums talking down Irelands chances, they'll be the same boys at the front of the queue looking tickets to South Africa
i'd say every time JC looks at his gaff recently he probably thinks he has already relocated to South Africa

Re: Will Ireland win
I ain't talking down I am being realistic. There is so much s**t commentary and punditry going on. 'If the French crowd get on their back', 'they're brutal at home', 'if Ireland get an early goal', 'if Ireland can keep the crowd quiet'.
The facts are that France hold a 1-0 lead and need to do nothing - nothing. Their fans are happily heading to South Africa at 0-0 even in the 89th minute. Think of it the other way. If we were 1-0 up from the away leg - would our crowd be doing their nut if it was 0-0 and a brutal game when it would suffice to get to the World Cup Finals? Not a f***ing hope - so lets put that stupid scenario to bed. Ireland getting an early goal - well we couldn't get one at home on Saturday and anyway even if we did we will concede one right after - as usual. Those are the facts. Thrown in the fact that their side is laced with quality and ours has Kilbane, Andrews, Whelan, St Ledger etc - its a no brainer. But that doesn't mean I don't hope we win. And as a guy who didn't miss a home game for 10 years but stopping going 10 years ago a trip to SA is of no interest to me.

i have a feeling that we still might sneak through. Shay Given to be the hero in a penalty shoot out. Optimistic i know but at the same time the French are not that good

They may not be but how good (really) are we? Somewhere around 5/10 I reckon.

Re: Will Ireland win
Some cheery facts!!!
- France have lost only one of their 22 competitive matches at the Stade de France - 3-2 against Russia in May 1999.
- You have to go back to November 1993 for their last ever home defeat in a World Cup qualifier.
- In European play-off qualifiers (World Cup, Euros), any side to have won away from home in the first leg has always gone on to qualify.
- France had 62 per cent of the possession in the away leg in Dublin.
- No European play-off two-legged tie has ever gone into extra time (Euros, World Cup).
- “Les Bleus” have not conceded a single goal in any of their last four matches against Ireland.
- Ireland have never won a competitive match in France (two defeats, one draw and only one goal scored).
- Only Argentina have managed to score more than one goal against France in 2009.
