Re: Death of the AllStars
I took one look at it and passed out Rich. Kilkenny have six players, Tipp four, Waterford and Galway two each and McCrabbe for Dublin.

Sorry, the master of the 21 yard free, Joe Canning is FF.

That was expected seeing as they moved Lar Corbett to the half-forward line.

this is from the rte website, i am surprised at a few though admitidly i do not know much about hurling but even though i think its a bit much galway having two awards seening as they only got to the 1/4 final, joe prob should get one but tht is due to the lack of another player in that position, maybe kelly for tipp? olly canning getting one i think is wrong, and alan mccrabbe getting one is just wrong as all he scrored was free's and then when the pressure was on against limerick he buckled totally think dotsy should get one before him

Re: Death of the AllStars
you're right rich. that's a failry good choice apart from Canning (s) and McCrabbe. Unsure as to whether I'd have give Eoin Kelly an Allstar this year though.

Re: Death of the AllStars
i'd have no problem with the likes of Mc Crabbe getting recognition as in my opinion it may go someway to further boosting the sport of hurling in Dublin. Its when they decide to award one to the likes of Kennelly for doing almost nothing the whole year then i have problems.
Whilst O'Neills wasnt exactly the right decision either at least her performed well in most of the games he played in. Perhaps Kennelly got his for his f**king irish jig - no harm to the guy but someday his head is going to disappear up his own arse.

Re: Death of the AllStars
is there any need for All Star awards, what purpose do they serve other than 30 guys getting an award every year and a jolly of the round the world somewhere wasting money.
Also are there any need for individual awards in a team sport???

Best move by Wexford Cóiste na óg in the last few years was to abolish man of the match awards for underage county finals

Jim a lot of clubs in Tyrone end their season with the customary dinner dance and during that awards are handed out for player of the year reserve player of the year young player etc etc and every year it seems to cause hassle as some parents or even players take exception to their son/daughter or players themselves not picking up any award.
My own club have never done this as far as i can remember and i think their right in not doing it. Mind you we are possibly the only club in Tyrone who dont have our jerseys sponsored so we are far from the finished article..............

Re: Death of the AllStars
Boc wouldn't worry about that.
We have two pubs in the parish and between them they have sponsored every team down to U8 not ideal either but needs bring there own necessities.
We used to do player or the year crap too but got rid of it they brought in this clubman of the year shite instead.
could never figure out who you define who did the most.
We also honour two people every year at district do's (adult and Cóiste).
I had to attend this awards fo donkeys years been club sec now I wouldn't cross the street to go to one, but the pressure put on you to attend if fierce, if you don't go you would upset so and so.
I'd say even the dinner dance is gone to the wall now - people just can't afford it about €25/30 a head around our way

Dinner dance me arse. Go back to what ye lads do best. Someone free up the barn, everyone brings the essentials (pots of cabbage and bacon, apple tart and soem deoch) and get the local musicians to belt out a few reels and jigs.
In Dublin we can only dream about such gaiety ....

Re: Death of the AllStars
I never, NEVER, recovered from not winning minor of the year award. I was the only candidate, but I took umbrage on not being allowed to play in a secondary minor football final, because I was doing goals for the club's senior hurlers in a county final next day.
Words were exchanged, so they gave the award to some plonker.
All downhill for me from that day.

We run a Barn Dance every 2/3 years and by God they are mighty craic.
always have a shed with a field of Oats around it as we trash those as well (or whats left after a the bit of thrashing that goes on in them during the night.
Both pubs agree to close down for the night and we take it in turns to get the license from them.
They are usually right craic but like all things are slowly been fazed out due to insurance.

Re: Death of the AllStars
Nahh But Barntown is only 20mins away. Them feckers had a goos year won intermediate f/ball, got beat in u21 f/ball final in the minor as well. Won minor hurling beat in senior semis as well as aa host of underage aas well.
Glynn would be one of the biggest clubs in Wexford (population) as one of the few "rural" clubs that benifited from the now well and truely deceased or was it mythical Tiger.
