As a victim of the recession losing my job, i was fed up sitting around. I returned to study full time, my thing now is as walking through the college hall the other day i saw Ryan Mellon the tyrone footballer i went over to see what the craic was ie why he was in the college, i then proceded to sign up for the Hurling and Gaelic football teams.

My question now is this as an ex intermediate now junior hurler and i havent played football since under 21 and im now 27, will all this be a bit much?

Has anyone much experience of college teams?

Im looking forward to the challenge, if anything i hoping it will improve my fitness as since i quit smoking i have put on about 4 stone!!

Any advice anyone?

You might make the Trinners first team but you haven't a hope if you're playing with a college that is serious about football like DIT or UCD. You need to be county standard to get on them panels.

I suspect you may be at BMC who are improving.

Colleges football, Sigerson and such, is 2nd to inter county but the teams may be fitter.

They are also teams in the true sense, more close knit than club sides even as they live together, play together, on and off the field, and see each other every day.

In my day QUB had 3 all Stars playing at one time and couldn't win the Sigerson, so it is a very high standard.
