Re: 2009 qualifiers football and hurling,
A home draw means nothing here, it's as much a home game for Armagh being in Clones. Toughest draw we could have got and of course the stand-out game of the draw.

Re: 2009 qualifiers football and hurling,
Its is a definite fix. I knew we would get Monaghan.
Monaghan v Armagh
Meath v Waterford
Wicklow v Fermanagh
Wexford v Offaly
Louth v Tipperary
London v Down
Leitrim v Longford
Its weird how whenever Armagh end up in the qualifiers we get the most difficult of teams.

Clare vs Galway game probably in cusack park,Ennis. Hopefully I'll be happier than the last time I was there in 2007.

Tough draw alright. Delighted with the leitrim draw. Longford at home. I'd say john joe will sleep better tonight anyway

Good enough oul' draw Johnno, if we can't get over that one we may throw our caps/wigs at it. A win here could set us up as there is some poor fare in the second round. I'm thinking ahead of a second round draw agin' the likes of Roscommon, Kerry or Derry. No forwards in any of these counties so the statuory 12 points might do us........Ahoy!!!!

And just imagine what score you'd put up against them if you had young Mulligan fit to play!

'based on Freeman appearing or now...'

Re: 2009 qualifiers football and hurling,
Sure that's how the country will be looking at it, "if Freeman doesn't get off they haven't a hope", and that's brilliant. I just wish the Armagh team thought like that but I doubt it, especially as we beat them in the league without him(yes it was the league and no Cross players but twas encouraging). As I say, the Monaghan team have put this matter to bed and if Tommy happens to get off thats a huge bonus. If the story with Tommy drags on a bit and is a sideshow to the buildup to the game it doesn't matter to us, we're preparing without Tommy and if we play like we can I'd be fully confident.

Re: 2009 qualifiers football and hurling,
wexford offaly would be happy enough with this draw it will be important wexford get a couple of wins in the quilifiers finishing the year with out a win in league or championship would be a solid disaster and the worst step wexford football could take

Re: 2009 qualifiers football and hurling,
Does anybody think that the qualifiers are a bit unfair. If you were knocked out in the semi-final you now have tougher opposition than if you were knocked out in the first round. Say Galway now have to play Clare and then the winner could get Cork, 2 tough matches in a row, or they could get Antrim/Laois in phase 3 and what good would that be. No dissrespect to either team but that would be like going backwards and usually gives a team false perceptions about themselves.

Re: 2009 qualifiers football and hurling,
The hurling qualifiers have always been a bit of a mess because of a lack to teams to have a meaningful draw like the football (16 teams R1, 16 teams R2, 8 teams R3 and 8 teams R4).
That said, I prefer the current format to the round robin league type rubbish they tried before.
That was just stupid.

Thats what I was harpping on about on some thread or another with you clash.
But the thing is if you going to win Liam don't lose avoid KK and hope some elese beats them and leave you fresh but the way its done out none of those things are going to happen

Re: 2009 qualifiers football and hurling,
there are some great games in the hurling draw though, i mean clare v galway could be a classic, limerick v wexford another good game in store and cork v offally has the potential to excite!!! some great games there for the hurling fan.......
as for the football i think in all honest there are no great games in store for the neutral.
Armagh v monaghan will not be a good game nothing against either county but i dont thing the match will produce a " good game". the other side of that is that who ever wins that will be a very tough game for whoever they get in the next round.
Meath v waterford is an non-game
wicklow v fermanagh this could be a good game or at least there could be a shock i have a feeling wicklow will win this one,
london v down a nothing game
wexford v offally an interesting tie simply because both teams will fancy there chances could go either way,
louth v tipp interesting game because they will be so close at the end, if i was a betting man i would not include this match in any accluilator.
leitrim v longford this is a local derby and could produce fireworks, im going for a leitrim win here by a few points just because carrick one tough place to go!!!!!!

meath last venture into a no-game produced a game all right-remember Limerick last year a total collapse. I can't see this happening against Waterford but stranger things could happen like dublin winning the AI
