Antrim are the big winners in that draw, should get two wins under their belt and a bit of momentum before getting a cut off one of the bigger sides.....Poor Offaly seem to have no luck when it comes to the qualifiers draw...

Wouldn't be so sure Puke. Antrim only beat a dour Westmeath by 4 points in the league. They now have a new manager and some very important players back who have the pride in the jersey. I still feel if we didn't let in those 3 soft goals we would have won by 10 points or more. Our lads were sore after that match and are gunning for another crack at Westmeath.

Re: Hurling Qualifiers
Antrim tend to struggle against teams they are "supposed" to beat. Last year they needed a miracle to come from about ten behind to beat Carlow at casement, and then beat the Dubs next time out at Croke!!!
Westmeath could do for them......

Re: Hurling Qualifiers
Seems a bit of an odd set-up that teams defeated in the semi-finals of provinces can meet each other straight away in the Hurling Qualifiers:
Clare vs Galway
Limerick vs Wexford
Meanwhile, teams defeated in provincial quarter finals, as well as preliminary round losers and Antrim, don't meet any of the above until Round Three.
Surely the four defeated provinical semi-finalists should meet four teams advancing from Round 1 of the Qualifiers?
Be interesting if someone could gather all the different back-door systems since 1997. My guess is all have been failures. It's only a matter of time before it changes again.

That's why they have the posts, supposed to hit the ball between them.
Poor forwards hit wides, Clare suffered badly from it in the 1990s if you remember?
Now a team can have an off day, but too many sides hit a load of wides, and it is a sign of poor decision making, panic or whatever.
It can only be used as an excuse on rare occasions.

Waterford are a hurling power - Laois are not. Not nice to see them get whacked but thats life - and Tipp anxious to send a message to the Cats.
As for Cork getting tanked .... Happy Days!

Both quarter-finals fixed for Sunday the 24th of July in Thurles. Dublin vs Limerick at 2pm followed by Galway vs Waterford at 4pm. €30 for the stand, €20 for the terrace.
