Re: The Joe Canning thread for Mossbags
Good point there Johnno. Both teams 1st touch were brutal there on Sunday and there were lads slipping and sliding all over the place which was surpising on what looked a good surface. Come to think of it, its been a while since I've seen a belter of a hurling game in Pearse stadium.
Wonder if Clash can think of one.
As for Joe, your right, his awareness and vision was superb on Sunday. His reading of the game and intelligence on and off the ball are on a different level to most, although these are things which often go un-noticed if he hasn't finished the match having put something like 3-20 on the score-sheet.

I would say Tipp vs Galway in the championship in 2003 was the last belter of a county hurling match at Pearse Stadium. At least that's the only one I can remember.

Re: The Joe Canning thread for Mossbags
PRIDE OF THE PARISH tonight. 8.30 RTE ONE.
''Kicking off the series, Galway stars Joe and Ollie Canning open doors to their family and their beloved club, Portumna, and reveal how it has brought them to where they are today. Joe is one of hurling's most exciting talents in more than a generation while his brother Ollie has been one of Galway's hurling stars for a decade.
From their childhood hurling games on the farm that sharpened their skills at a young age to behind-the-scenes footage with the senior team as they go in search of the elusive back-to-back County and All Ireland titles, this is a portrait of what is required of a club to be All Ireland champions. Set against the backdrop of Galway's 2008 championship season and Joe's long-awaited senior debut, this will be essential viewing for any GAA fan.''

Too right. The only good thing that came out of Galway was the Saw Doctors' 'Green and Red of Mayo'.

If Mayo is so great how come you all seem to be working and going to college in Galway?

Re: The Joe Canning thread for Mossbags
0-1 from play in his last 200 minutes of hurling.
I can't wait to see what Mossbags will come out with on Monday or Tuesday or whenever he can face showing himself in here again after Galway's performance today.
Its clear Galway people have hyped Joe so much, they can't take anything bad being said about him. The lad is only 20, he is not the next Henry Sheflin, nor is he anywhere near. He has been below average in his last three matches.
Does Mossbags/Clash/Flanders/6inarow thing Mullane/Brennan would have missed the two chances for goals which Joe had at his mercy?

you have a point Loyal, he's really not living up to all that hype. 0-1 in 200 minutes of hurling is shocking!

Mullane scores 1-5 for Waterford all from play. Waterford lose the match.
Canning scores 0 from play for Galway. Galway win the match.
Its a team effort.
Canning scores 2-12 for Galway against Cork. Galway lose the match.

I wouldn't dream of doing that to a Kerryman Triona. Luckily Joe Canning transcends sport itself, even hurling! He rests solenmly in the realm of the divine.
