Rafa Gone - Good or Bad Decision?
Well? The fat Spanish waiter has left the building and with a nice little 6million tip in his back sky rocket for his troubles!
Was he really a disaster? After all this is the man who won the European Cup for a recently over achieving Scouse Army?? Or are you of my view, he won it with the previous managements team and done his best to lose the final with the starting line up he chose!!
I think he done well with the once great club, one bad season after 5 of overachievement for Liverpools "premier" club wasn't a bad return. Lets face it, Liverpool alive off past glories akin to that of the England national team and haven't done bad when you consider they are crap!!
In my view this is just a cheap way of trying to get the big players to stay, and now i hear that they want "King" Kenny to take over, this after the Liverpool fans mocked Newcastle for bringing Keegan back!!
A joke of a club that really should know their place in the modern game!

Re: Rafa Gone - Good or Bad Decision?
Well BE, as far as their Champions League success goes, I'd say the one man who was mostly responsible for it is after flying out to South Africa, and I'm not talking about Carragher! Only for Gerrard Liverpool wouldn't have even got out of the group.
As for Benitez, I for one will be sorry to see him gone, it was comical watching him attempting to manage Liverpool last year and I was looking forward to more of the same. With a new manager they may now be able to finish 6th next year or maybe even 5th, although that may be asking a bit much. In fairness it was only a year before that they got enough points that would win the league alot of years, but most of Rafa's dealings over the course of his stay were questionable, transfers in particular(Torres aside).

Re: Rafa Gone - Good or Bad Decision?
As Colm Parkinson might say, he was a total bluffer.
He inherited a very good side with very good structures at Valencia, and inherited some good players and a supportive board in his early days at Liverpool. The famous night in Instabul, with his side 3-0 down at half-time, he gave his H-T team talk with 12 liverpool players showing on the blackboard. This was pointed out to him, and he re-arranged it. This time, he had 10! Totally clueless.
Also, his transfer dealings were shocking, and his solution to everything was to throw money at it. He deserves no credit for buying Torres, as every man and his dog knew how good Torres was. Except, of course, Alex Ferguson, who passed up the chance to sign him.

A poor manager.. Could never put away the smaller teams when it mattered which ended up costing them the League last year.
Question is who will take over now. Is Kenny waiting in the wings or will Woy or Mr Moyles take up the mantle..

Poor manager
Spend 100's of millions on mediocre players, failed to recognise the good ones that he had, bizarre tactics, squad rotation, players out of position, Zonal marking, negative set ups away from home against weak sides and to top it all off when he got Liverpool to top of the league in early 2009 he decides to throw a wobbly at ferguson and ended up dropping about a dozen points in a month.

Re: Rafa Gone - Good or Bad Decision?
Liverpool board once again show their amazing business accumen. Balderick himself would be proud of cobbling together such a cunning plan.
Liverpool wait for 3 weeks after the end of the season to do anything about Benitiez.
A managerial vacancy opens at Inter, who express an interest in Benitez.
Liverpool suddenly realise that Inter might make an approach for Benitez, and may be willing to offer a million or two of the compensation that they have just agreed with Real Madrid.
This is the point that the Liverpool board pull there shrewdest move. Instead of encouraging Inter's interest, and potentially receiving money and getting rid of Benitez, they choose to pay out £6million themselves, to achieve the same result.
And why did they do such a thing?
Well they obviously realised that receiving compensation from Inter could in fact increase the valuation of the club, and thus make it more difficult to sell! The Liverpool board decided to show the world, yet again, what cunning businessmen they are by paying Benitez one last reward for driving the club further into mediocracy, and also reducing the value of the club at the same time. Geniuses one and all!
