Today's stage is going to be the best yet. Yesterday, the thunder clapped through the sky as the Barcelona crowd clapped for the God of Thunder, today its all about the General Classification riders. Lots of attacks and how will Astana/Contador/Lance respond? I think Cadel Evans will attack for sure and he could make it stick.

Mark Cavendish is something special. He really is, every top sprinter coming at him and he fended them all off. He's got the speed, he's got the lead-out, he's got the power. And Columbia not a bad team helping him.

Yeah but the Columbia train looked in trouble with 1K to go as Milram took over. Fortunetely Tony Martin got it back for them as Hincapie and Renshaw came to the front. After that, Hushoved tried to go with Cav, but couldn't. Then Farrar came out of the pack but Cav, all power, all speed, all muscle held on. As usual, he left the likes of Friere, Boonen, Bonnati, Ciolek trailing in his wake.

Nicolas Roche in the breakaway. Ciolek and Bonnati and the likes are there but they aren't sprinting that well, I'm beginning to get excited...............You never know.

No replies? Well this is the most famous day in Irish sport since that day in La Plange in 1987. Tremendous from Roche. Attacked, attacked attacked, wasn't for lacking of trying that he didn't win, in fact, I thought it was a fortitous move by the winner, still an inspiring ride to take second in the final kilometre or two.

And that is what I call sport. Quality action in the mountains, some of the greatest athletes in the world on show.
Contador went, no-one could go with him bar Andy Schleck who chased in vain. Great stuff from the two of them. Two big surprises were the Brit Bradley Wiggins and Liquigas' rider Vincenzo Nibali. I like Frank Schleck as well, he rode well. Lance was left toiling, and Cadel Evans was a huge disappointment. Tour looks to be Contador's now unless the Schlecks can pull out something unbelievably special later in the week.
Great excitement though, would pity the people who sat through the Ulster and Connaught Finals.

A rest day today. But into the Alps on Tuesday which is sure to produce fireworks. Lance can't win, Schlecks, Sastre, Wiggins, Contador, Nibali, Kruseiger all left him trailing yesterday. If his domestique Kloden didn't hang around, who knows what could have happened Lance. He's not the same as four years ago.

There are two rest days in the whole Tour, on the second and the third Mondays. With big climbs to come on Tuesday and Wednesday, an individual time trial on Thursday and Stage 20's huge climb to Mount Ventoux, the riders will need a rest day to prepare for the final week.
Contador appears to have the yellow jersey and Franco Pellozotti should keep the Polka Dot one but the Green jersey between Hushovd and Cav is yet to be decided - though I think on Saturday, Columbia and Cav shot themselves in the foot with their antics. The podium is still to be decided and I would love to see Frank or Andy Schleck make it on to it. If Frank attacked early on the road to Ventoux and Andy a little later, it may give Andy a chance to take some time out of Contador. You can't wait for him to attack and then try to follow, you have to attack before him.

Armstrong has been dropped. Schlecks, Nibali, Contador, Wiggins and Kloden gone off the front of the peloton. But the Schlecks can't get rid of Contador.
