The Great Toll Rip-Off .....
Ok I had a letter in the post this morning and am fairly fuming but I won't say what it was ........
Well wasn't it great when the congested tolling of the M50 suddenly became a free flowing area? Wasn't the removal of barriers great!!!
When you used to pay €1.80 or €2 it became €3 overnight if you don't want to register with a company! And nobody said a word. Then if you don't pay within 24 hours or so (or less than 20 hours in some cases) - they can charge you double - €6!! And nobody said a word. Imagine if your ESB bill came through the door on a Monday - say for €100 - and you went to pay it on Wednesday and they said 'Sorry - its now €200!' And if you forget to pay within 14 days it becomes €47.50!!! What sort of s**e is that! And nobody says a word.
Where else can suppliers of services get away with such penalties and so quickly - you haven't got time to breathe and you're penalised!
It's a load of b****x if you ask me! See you in court lads ......

Re: The Great Toll Rip-Off .....
There is a going to be two toll-bridges on the new M3. One the far side of Dunshaughlin and I think one this side of Kells. Its a fucking joke, it will cost me a fortune to drive to Dublin now. Or if I want to go to Leopardstown, I'll have to pay three tolls on the way, unbelievable. Leopardstown is approx 54 mile up the round, thats a toll-bridge per 18 mile!!!!

If i was going to leopardstown the 3 euro toll would be the least of my worries.
Look on the bright side loyal you wont have to many trips to Dublin for footballing reasons.

Re: The Great Toll Rip-Off .....
Nobody is going to bother with the new road - that is a fact. There will still be traffic tailing back as far as Kilmainham every day from 3-5 on the way into Kells! How can they build a road and put two toll bridges on it? Defies logic.......

Tolls are like taxes. You wouldn't mind if they were fair and the money went towards something useful like a better society, but no.
If the toll was fair, like the 1.90 from Belfast to Dublin, well and good. But three tolls for Loyal?
That is tearing the arse out of things.

Re: The Great Toll Rip-Off .....
I reckon that by the time I fill the car with diesel, then head off up the road and pay all three of the tolls going and coming, I will be out the guts of fifty euro.
That is Eu250 a week for any average commuter! That will apply to anyone north of Kells in County Meath wanting to go southbound on the M50! I know a few people that make that journey on a daily basis!
And is that clown Dempsey still in charge of Transport? And him a Meathman.

Is that £1.90 or €1.90 Patrique?
I wasn't aware that there was a toll from Belfast to Dublin, whereabouts is it?
Its over €6 for the toll at the Port Tunnel. That is not a typo by the way, it is €6! Hard to believe. Then if you take that road, you get tolled €2 (I think) after you cross the water, (say if you were going to Shelbourne Park or Ringsend), 70% of people that take the first toll end up going through the second one I reckon.

Yeah if the tolls were ploughed straight back into the road infrastructure it wouldn't be so bad - but 'private companies' are taking a 'more than' premium! Hey! Lets sell the silverware too!
ps Loyal - M1 toll is around Drogheda and is the best value in the country.

The Belfast-Dublin toll is 1.90 euro, and is in MEATH, past Drogheda on the way down.

I thought the M1 bypassed Drogheda?
I do not know of this toll bridge! I went from Dublin city centre to Newry a few times and never had to pay any tolls?

If you used the M1 there is a toll just west of Drogheda town and before (if coming from Dublin) you go over the new bridge on the Boyne

Oh yeah, I know it now. Sorry, my mistake, sincerest apologies, Jayo and Patrique. I remember this toll bridge now. I get a bit mixed up at times.

Must get the fiancee to bring her car over here as I damned if I'm paying the toll (usually go through town anyway) but will definatly give it a spin in her car.

Seriously? I didn't think they had any way of contacting people with non-Irish regs. Surprised at that. I'd ignore it if I was you - I'm sure you did anyway!
ps Blagged my way to a €6 settlement which includes a free trip next time!

Re: The Great Toll Rip-Off .....
They obviously have access to northern registrations. Cant remember how much it was, had to send them a cheque for a few euro. Was coming back from killarney drove through m50 toll and the one on m1 motorway, not sure if i got a bill for both or not.

Thanks.
So you did pay then.
I wonder if they have access to the DVLA database in Swansea. To be honest, I can't see what they could do to you if you didn't pay. They'd have to go to court in the north / UK anyway which seems way too much hassle over a bridge toll.

They would probably hound you to the ends of the earth and slap you in the slammer if they could. Much better to rip the taxpayer off for a few billion - that way you get to keep the mansion, boat, villa, merc and laugh at all the hardship from abroad ....
