Re: Ronaldo moves to Madrid for £80M
As a Utd fan i have to say im glad. He has done brilliantly for Utd but i dont think has head has been right since last summer. 80m is alot of money and can buy 3 or 4 top class players, hopefully a winger and a center midfielder (or 2) is top of priority list.

£80 million! Even after all the talk of the last year and a half I didn't think there'd be a bid like that, especially after he didn't go last year. It's too good a bid to turn out I suppose, and Ronaldo was clearly looking to go to Madrid even more now they're going on a big spending spree, but who do you replace him with? Despite all his flaws and critics he's still one of the best in the world and it's unlikely you'll get in a player of the same quality. It's all about using that £80m in the right way now. It is good business though, as I say I didn't think they'd get that amount.

Can't see where the goals are going to come from. Tevez(if they were to buy him) isn't a prolific goal scorer and neither is Rooney or Berbatov. Also teams will now see that they have £80m in the bank and will hold them to ransom over players they now want to buy.

I reckon Valencia will probably join now, and hopefully Tevez will stay. Other strongly linked players are Ribery and Benzema but surely a priority is a top class central midfielder after what we saw in the CL final, real lack of creativity in there.

I was reading that the new Real Madrid president Florentino Perez has a personal fortune of £1.8 billion which he is using some of to buy Ronaldo and Kaka.

Have to say it is sickening money to be paying for players and the salaries are equally sickening and the reason why I pay soccer nothing more than a passing interest any more....

€90,000+ for running around trying to get a ball off someone and then when you get it you kick it away.
The money is crazy and the players seem to forget that its the general public who make them rich. If nobody watches soccer they don't get big wages.

Sounds like good work if you can get it. I say fair play to them for whatever they can get out of the clubs, look what they are making of these players through merchandising and sponsors not to mention prize money they get for their clubs and crowds they draw in.

Very few make it though. There are ex-academy players from Africa and places like that living rough in cities like Marseille after being let go by their club.

I am not blaming the players - good luck to them. I just find the whole thing obscene...

Re: Ronaldo moves to Madrid for £80M
I give Ronaldo 2 years max and he will be looking to go somewere else - him and Kaka in the one team is a non starter for me. Two many egos in one dressing room - good luck to the manager.
Guardiola has shown at Barcelona that superstars get you nowhere near as far as a team of guys who would put their neck on the line for each other.

Lads being brought into an academy should be guarenteed an education or some form of training for later life. Unfortunately in soccer like other sports there will always be those that dont make it.

They'd want to sign a defender at some point, as it is they'll score a couple more but still let in the six when they play Barcelona.

Which is better value -
for €80 million - Lyons Estate (former home of Dr. Tony Ryan) a 600-acre property near Celbridge with a Georgian stately home complete with formal gardens, and a state-of-the-art equestrian centre (see Irish Times Property Supplement)
or
for Stg £80 million - a spoilt, diving, self-centred, arrogant footballer.
The decision ……… is yours!
