From Shane McGettigan Park.....Intermediate c'ship.
Fenagh 0-10...Glencar/Manor 1-06.
Status preserved....Another day out.
As Manor sought the emergency out, via the "high lobbing ball", the Fenagh custodian, the venerable Killian McLoughlin (47), effected a kind of Tony Schumacher clearance, punching the ball clear by about 40yds. and leaving 3 bodies seeking emergency services.
In the confines of the smoking zone of the Abbey Bar afterwards, the intrepid Killian affirmed to Boxty that he "loves those moments in time Boxty, plant a few of them Manor hoors"....After today's dozen or so large Ciders he'll be back training again on Friday.
He's one of those characters, after a lifetime of great committment, that rural folk admire. Probably 15/16 stone weight, affable, gregarious and above all, fearless. Should he concede 5 or 6 the next day, none would be his fault....A possible All-Star....

Nice one Boxty.. Good results around the entire area with Templeport (first signs of a sting from the future heroes) SO'H (10 down with 10 to go, knocked in 3 majors and levelled with the last kick) and Aughawillan (recovered from a poor start to win in comfortable fashion) all getting something from the weekend.
The only blight on the copybook would be them townie fookers Kildallan overcoming Corlough.

Leitrim's latest Olympian,* Mohill's Laura Reynolds, blasts off in the Womens 20k walk tomorrow afternoon.
The big screens at the junction of the commercial and financial districts (i.e. near the Mart) are in place and Jim O'Brien's will be rocking.
The gold will be a big ask, but for now it's Forza Laura.....

I reckon 2 and a half as I only count 12.5 players. And Ronnie Corbett in goal too!

Looking at it again, I'd say it was taken about 1992 or thereabouts. Doesn't take from the fact that "our man" was the wrong side of 26/27 then and the shot is bereft of Gerry Flanagan.
Other notable exclusions are Mickey Quinn, Aidan Rooney and Liam Conlan. The venue is a mystery.

Short term employment opportunities:
Boxtyeater will be shortly interviewing suitable candidates for a stint at the Electric Picnic music festival in Stradbally, Co.Laois.
A Junior Boxty has a "band" that are playing on two occasions over the duration of this event and the following positions are available.
Assistant Sound Technician: (2 positions). The Crane will be the O.C. of this operation. An ability to connect electric cables to amplification systems is essential. The ability to rapidly identify/repair faulty cabling will be paramount. The position will also require an aptitude for carrying large un-wieldy box-like lumps of equipment. Remuneration will be by flat figure, paid on the day.
Merchandising Manager: (1 position). What's required here is a strong, motivated Team Leader who has proven ability to organise, motivate and control a young and in-experienced sales team via the direct marketing method. A Manager with the overall concept of
"Ambush Marketing", an ability to maximise opportunities, organisational skills with regard to provision of food and refreshment and the capacity to rebuff disgruntled patrons is desirable. Remuneration for this post is negotiable, but an hefty bonus is guaranteed.
Sales Team: (5 positions). This is fairly straightforward. You will be expected to off-load CD's, T-Shirts @ €10, Caps and suitable RDM's* @ €5 and wrist bands bearing the band's logo @ €2...Straightforward..Remuneration will be by way of free w/end ticket (worth €240) and 10% commission.
* The RDM's mentioned are a plastic type head and body cover bearing the band's logo. It's a bit of a punt, but if the weather is bad or you lose your gear, then they're a bonanza.
Security Staff: (2 positions). We're looking for experienced staff with a bit of muscle to protect the band from groupies and look after the flotilla of vehicles that will comprise their entourage. Security staff will also be responsible for the control and dispersal of merchandise to the sales team, in tandem with the Merchandising Manager. Remuneration in this case to be agreed at interview.
This is an exciting opportunity to be part of an emerging enterprise. Forget the fact that you can see The Cure and tonight's star turn,
The Elbow live in Laois, those lucky enough to be selected can always say in 20 years that "I was part of it"
Contact Boxtyeater for an application form. Interviews will be held next weekend at a Dublin location.

We've drawn neighbours Aughnasheelin in the Intermediate Q/F...Eminently beatable.

Best to ignore the last post in the light of last w/ends result.
In other news, things are going rippingly in Stradbally I gather. The band have played at 21.00 hrs. and are taking to the "Salty Dog" stage about now....The Crane, I gather, has proved his wizardy with matters connected to electric cables* and the merchandise is all but sold.
* live report.

Was in Dublin for the weekend...The reports aren't glowing I'm afraid....In typical Fenagh custom all the same, the oul' cant arises: "Sure we stayed I/M, there's rakes of young lads coming"
Boxty, while the eyesight is failing, can't see them. Or are these the young lads of 20 years ago....
On your 2nd. part, Himself and myself exchanged the customary "nod and wink" at a removal t'other evening. He's looking shook...

Apologies JS for neglecting Leitrim affairs....
The Willies are in the s/f opposing Gael na Meilbhne. The containment of Mulligan will be a big ask, but these young lads from the shores of Garadice will not now, nor ever, be burdened by tags of favouritism or inferiority.
Carrick won't be fit for Manor, but all of South Leitrim, from the parish of Ballinamore (incorporating Aughawillian and Drumreilly) Aughnasheelin, Fenagh, Cloone and even Kiltubrid will be behind the Willies.
The great days given to us as Leitrim folk, following county and club, through the likes of the Flanagans, Quinns, Priors and Gilheaneys, not to exclude their top scorer, Francie Smyth may yet roll around.
Maybe not this year, but there's a stir below the town....

Ballinamore, wounded and sore over their upcoming relegation battle would think it hard to wish The Willies good luck.. McKeown's loss hit them harder than they ever thought it would.

Re: Leitrim 2012...All matters, agricultural and otherwise on this thread..
County final on Sunday here, pitting the North of the counties finest in a head to head. Glencar/Manor V Melvin Gaels.
Manor are seeking an unprecedented 5-in-a-row having joined the now defunct Gorvagh and Melvin Gaels in the 4 in-a-row pantheon of greats last year. They will be looking to James Glancy and Adrian Croal to steer them home but the Kinlough men aren't behind the door entirely here.
They will be hoping for something of a virtuoso performance from Emlyn Mulligan to orchestrate their attack and I'd expect Manor to possibly double-tag him in an effort to restrict his influence. This could be counter-productive as Mulligan will punish any indiscretions from the dead ball.......Manor by 3 however is the nap from here...
In any event, the continued dominance of Manor is slowly killing football within the county. This single club dominance has proven detrimental to the majority of county teams, Armagh excluded, and it's no different here.
Ho'n Melvin Gaels..

Some up-beat news for a change.
Our minors who are amalgamated with the Gortletteragh club for c'ship drew with a Mohill amalgamated side in the recent County final. Given the bulk of the team and consequently the majority of stand out players were from Fenagh this represents progress.
Donal Wrynn, the current AI minor handball champion, put in a tremendous hour at midfield and Bobby O'Rourke's young Ryan gave a performance of guile, tenacity, aggression and the odd touch of flamboyance the evoked memories of Bobby's heyday..
Gary Butler displayed the laconic style of the bould Gerry and the young Doonan brothers were Canavan-esque up front. Jack Heslin represented the Gortletteragh contingent with aplomb but I'm still wondering how we squandered such a half-time lead....

Winter Headwear Dilema....
We were discussing matters of interest this evening in the aftermath of the Mart, when the thorny issue of winter head apparel arose.
Since the time I reached 60 I notice the number of flat caps I possess has increased significantly. I have various agri-caps for normal activities and a brace of other caps for wear on such occasions as the Mart, a funeral or attending auctions which is a pursuit of mine.
Here's a typical specimen of my cap collection:
The Dauber voiced the opinion that as the late Boxty Mór passed the 70 mark, he took to wearing fedora hats and Dan thought they were very becoming on him. I concurred with this opinion for once. I possess an ancient fur-felt fedora that was once belonging to my late great-grandfather. It sees use around Hollentide when I dress up to frighten the grandchildren. No longer fit for purpose.
I'm considering acquiring a new fedora as I feel it will add further gravitas to my appearance at the anticipated plethora of wakes and funerals that winter time brings.
Something along these lines:
Only useful observations please.
