'Bear In There' by Shel Silverstein
There's a Polar Bear
In our Frigidaire--
He likes it 'cause it's cold in there.
With his seat in the meat
And his face in the fish
And his big hairy paws
In the buttery dish,
He's nibbling the noodles,
He's munching the rice,
He's slurping the soda,
He's licking the ice.
And he lets out a roar
If you open the door.
And it gives me a scare
To know he's in there--
That Polary Bear
In our Fridgitydaire.

On Tuesday I was chatting to a lad I know who drvies one of the airport ploughs that work through the night. He said they were working on the basis the weather will last about 4 weeks and says the sources are rarely wrong. Could we sell it to the Arabs I wonder ....

I see a lot of roads are blocked by 40 foot trucks. It makes it very hard to deal with the Artic conditions ....

I'm going on the piste tomorrow - This 'study' week has been very much like groundhog day with the fooking snow.

Re: Snow laughing matters .....
Jayo's gammy left knee has flared up something terrible the last two days and especially today. Absolutely stiff six inches either side of the cap. I get stiffness where I don't want it and none where ..... sorry I digress! Tis fooking sore lads I can tell ye - dragging it after me in the snow all day - its like bringing a dog with no legs for a walk. Little old ladies are sprinting by me telling me to mind meself or offering to link me up. Shocking to see an agile young man in such a sorry state.
I went into the chemist today to get some cream to take down the swelling - steady with the smutty comments now boys. Anyway she gave me Diclac and I'm beginning to wonder did she hear me right. Diclac to me sounds like something you might use to bring up swelling. Anyway it seems not worth a fook.
So the problem is an old knee injury (resulting in weak quads) which I exacerbated (lovely word that) during the summer - and wrenched stuff around it. I had physio but did fook all exercise and now its came back with a vengeance. Even if I turn it at all its agony. My salsa class tonight was a nightmare. Any ideas? Hot water bottle methinks? Its about twice the size and uglliness of the other one at this stage.

Sweet Jesus - I've seen read it all now ........
Gender Equality Group says there is Snowwomen!
A group which campaigns for gender equality has lodged a complaint with the European Union regarding the exclusive use of the word 'snowman'. The group says it is a clear affront to women and want the Union to invoke and promote the use of the word 'snowperson' among schoolchildren across the continent.
Mary Hayes-Murphy from Croydon, representing the group ''Females Against Troubling Terminology in English Society' said, "For years we have only ever heard of snowmen. Well women can be made of snow too. It does not take too much extra effort. Schoolkids are raised with the sole idea of snowmen in what are the most wonderful times of some of their blessed little lives. But women don't get a look-in. This feeds into inequality in jobs, in schools, in society and it must be arrested.'
A spokesman for Lynne Featherstone, the Lib-Dem Equality Minister said they were looking into the matter. 'There is more than a grain of truth in what is being said here. Snow should not be an exclusively male thing. Lots of young females get involved in snow related activity and it would be nice if they were encouraged to build a snow-Barbie or Dora or the like.'
Nobody at the EU was aware of the story but they are unlikely to be snowed in with complaints.

Re: Snow laughing matters .....
You couldn't say a truer word......Boxty is in a solo situation as the WO is in Sligo (niece in poor shape)....
Should anyone refer back along the forum to about late June/early July, when Boxty advocated the value of square bales for handiness sake, they would be laughing now.....
On the up side, Boxty fried about 2lb. of a sirloin there, after foddering and livestock duties, buttered, with real butter, 5 cuts of a brown soda, fleeced 2 fine onions onto the pan, in tandem with "the mate" and polished all with a pot of tae..(tae leaves)...
Dessert consisted of a lock of chill chasing Hennessys (Derrylin sourced) and draught tinnies of the black nectar (48 for €20 still ongoing if in the know)...
Boxty, a brace of dogs and all livestock still fighting the good fight.....As Boxty Mór might say "We never died a Winter yet".......

They must've thought they'd died and gone to heaven! Maybe Sami and his mountain bike huskies should patrol this area, sherpa-like.

Re: Snow laughing matters .....
The snow isn't all that bad. It perhaps makes us focus on things we've neglected in life. In the case of Brian Cody, his new found dancing skills are testament to this.
