Re: Davy leaves Waterford, Donal leaves Limerick
TJ Ryan all but said that O'Grady was sign sealed and delivered for another two years during the commentary of the Limerick Galway under 21 match. Wonder what has happened in the mean time, did the solicitor's letters and usual politics & blame game that happen after the 21's defeat make his mind up for him. big shoes to fill now and there will be expectation there next year.
Davy was offered a two year extension by the county board and was supposedly going to take it but i presume he copped which way the wind was blowing and than the clubs would most likely oppose it and left before it was put to a vote and got messy. He more a less told the Clare county board he was unavailable a couple of weeks ago and another person has been approached who would probably have more support if it comes down to a vote between the two although how much apetite the other person would have for vote and the cancassing and politiking that goes with it is another story

Re: Davy leaves Waterford, Donal leaves Limerick
Am pretty shocked by the situation in Limerick. How did they manage to let him go? I know he was angry about the changes to the league structures but I'd be surprised if there wasn't more to it than that. After such a big year where they re-established themselves as a name in hurling they are now in danger of putting all their progress in real jeopardy. I would have though Leo O Connor would have been a decent choice as a replacement but after making such a gobshite of himself after the Galway game Im less than convinced. For Limerick it's as it always is, one step forward, two steps back'
The situation in Waterford is much less of a surprise. He had a good run but it's in everyones interest for a change down there. How do you feel about his imminent return to the banner Pukey?

He will improve us, no doubt about that, out fitness and conditioning at this moment in time is a long way short of what is needed and he is fairly professional in terms of set up and physical preparation etc which is no harm to have with a young squad. In saying that anyone with a bit about them would improve us and if he can tighten up the backs and add a bit of organisation he will have a handy side to develop, we have plenty of pace and scoring ability up front but are let down by our defence and callowness. Doubt he will do a hell of a lot with us if he gets it but he will improve us, problem is though that if he gets he he will probably see it as a job for life and when his time is up in two or three years time I can't see him walking away too quitely. I would say around a dozen or so of the current panel would have hurled under him in recent times in LIT so they will know exactly what to expect if it does come to pass

I'd broadly agree. I think he can make Clare competitive in Munster again, the raw tools are there for sure, there is no better man to add the passion. He is a more sophisticated tactician than he gets credit for. With Tipp's in-effectiveness on Sunday there is a school of thought that they peaked too early this Summer and Munster might not be a priority for them next season. Waterford and Cork bringing in new management setups and Limericks latest **** up re O Grady makes Clare quite interesting under Davy next season. Will certainly be keeping a close eye on their price for Munster

He is on a nice little earner with Waterford but you seem to think that he would only be interested in the Clare job if the price is right. Davy has wanted this job for a long time and also realises that this is probably his only chance of it given that in two or three years time Daly will be back in the reckoning and the current minor management will have been over the 21's for a few years and both will want it, not to mention the likes of Seanie McMahon, Brian Quinn and Jamsie O'Connor who are doing trojan work at underage level as well. Money won't even come into this for Davy, he wants this to put it up to all the begrudgers he has in the county and te fact that he is the staunchest of Claremen you will meet. Especially given the fact that he begins his well paying full time job on the pay roll off LIT next week as well

Big Joe bankrupted Aer Arann. And then himself! Not to mention the Galway football board. Re: Davy leaves Waterford, Donal leaves Limerick
I was fairly surprised at DOG's resigning the Limerick job when he had earlier had given indications that he was prepared to do another year if he was asked. Meanwhile rumours in Cork are that DOG is going go be Frank Murphy's replacement as secretary.

As an update to the above, O'Grady has now said that he has no interest in the role of secretary, that he would prefer to work on the field rather than in an office.
It's a shame that the new Cork Hurling management can't find some position for him on the coaching side, Especially since himself and JBM are from the same club.

Re: Davy leaves Waterford, Donal leaves Limerick
They're not mates as such, although they have played together for both Cork and St Finbarrs. O'Grady is just a year older and while he never played under-age for Cork, Jimmy Barry Murphy was something of a Boy Wonder as a minor. I would have much preferred to see DOG as manager/coach, because he has more of an analytical approach and is very strong on players getting the basics right before proceeding any further, which I think is what Cork needs at this stage. I'll admit that I don't have great confidence in JBM as a manager, but we're stuck with him now for the next three years, so we'll just have to hope that it won't be another three years wasted.

Re: Davy leaves Waterford, Donal leaves Limerick
It's between Micheal Donoghue and Anthony Cunningham. Tom Helebert must have some role too. Whoever gets Eamonn O Shea on the ticket gets the job. I'd have a slight preference for Donoghue but wouldn't be perturbed in the slightest if Cunningham got the gig. He used to train me so he must be good. Just wish those Davy rumours would go away. Not as worried about the Donal O Grady onesmullins wrote:mossbags wrote:Mcyntires gone
