Transfer Window - Irish Watch
Should be a busy summer for a good number of Irish players
Kieran Westwood is on his way to Sunderland on a Bosman
Gibson is on his way out of OT, possibly as part of a treble move with John O'Shea and Wes Brown to Sunderland
Richard Dunne is being linked with a move to Wolves, although this will depend on Villa's new manager
Kevin Doyle is being linked with a few clubs
Shay and Robbie will surely move during the summer, with Martin Jol now at fulham there is a good chance Keane will end up there
Shane Long also looks like he will be stepping up to the EPL with Newcastle the most like destination while Aiden McGeady is being linked with a host of clubs
The likes of Darren O'Dea, Paul McShane and Kevin Kilbane will also be likely to find new clubs
Please post all related news in here

What are the realistic options for Given Puke? Is he looking at the Championship?

Not at all, he is on around 80k a week at City, I doubt any championship side could even afford to pay him a quarter of that....
Celtic will definately be a runner but would require him taking the bones of a 50% pay cut but he is a big celtic fan....Brad Friedel has left Villa and they will be looking for a keeper, wouldn't be surprised if there is a bit if interest from Italy as well as Trap has been constantly singing his praises over there

Drogheda United have turned down an off from Zinedine Kilbane's agent. Paul McShane has been offered a pay as you don't concede conract believed to be worth about €5 a season.

I think his inability to really command a box and come for crosses would be the main reason the likes of United and Arsenal never made a move for him....No doubting his shot stopping ability and his distribution are excellent but his inability to really dominate his area like a Reina, VDS, Buffon, Casillas etc does put off the bigger clubs in my opinion.....

I would have given a head of Reina ,VDS,all day long..It's a long time since i seen any keeper dominating their box in the premiership...

Re: Transfer Window - Irish Watch
The last goalkeeper I saw to command the area was Bruce Grobbelar.
Nowadays all of them are shot stoppers as defences fall back on them and crowd the area, and forwards are allowed to disrupt keepers.
When Pat Jennings was playing he would simply have chased everyone out of the area against the like of Stoke and caught every ball, probably with one hand.
Given is a top class keeper but I think he earns a sight more than 80k, closer to 100k a week. He would need to be Celtic's greatest ever fan to take a 90% pay cut.
I fear Man United will p##s about again like they did when schmeical left and take about 5 years to find a good keeper.I could never understand Fergie and Wenger in that regard. For Clough keeper was the top position, and needed the best, or nearly the best.

How much money would the goalkeepers of the 70s/80s be worth in todays market..1/2 billion i would guess at..
Their was so many but Jennings was my fav...by a long shot

Saw that all right. Good move for him I presume? Regular football with a team that should be in the Premiership in the years to come.

Re: Transfer Window - Irish Watch
JOHN O'Shea looks set to complete his £3m move to Sunderland this week.
The Waterford native has spent 12 years at Old Trafford but his time there appears to be up as Alex Ferguson makes wholesale changes to his squad in an attempt to match Barcelona.
As the loyal O'Shea's face no longer fits, he is expected to become Steve Bruce's latest addition in a busy summer of activity on Wearside.
It appears Darron Gibson's move to the Stadium of Light has been complicated by the midfielder's wage demands, while Wes Brown is also in discussions with Bruce about a potential move.
Robbie Keane is still being linked with a move to Bolton but the Ireland captain would need to take a pay cut to move to the Reebok, while Richard Dunne and Stephen Ireland have been told that they have a future at Villa Park by new boss Alex McLeish but Andy Keogh is no longer part of Mick McCarthy's plans at Wolves.
Andy Reid is looking to re-boot his career where it all began when he completes his move to Nottingham Forest this week.
The midfielder's season was disrupted by injury and a lack of game time at Sunderland and Blackpool, but Steve McClaren has handed him a lifeline after snapping the out-of-favour Ireland international up on a free transfer.

Would ye all kindy fook off out of it with your non irish related transfer news
Sean St Ledger signed for Leicester City last week, should be a good move for him, Sven will have them close to promotion this year and they are spending a few quid
Shane Long looks to be on his way to West Brom for 8 million pound, I like Long but he isn't next or near to that especially as he has only one year left on his contract
Darren Gibson's proposed move to Sunderland is off after he demanded 40k a week

Re: Transfer Window - Irish Watch
a few more in recent weeks
Kevin Kilbane has joined Derby County
Keith Treacy has joined Burnley who have made fellow Irishman Chris McCann captain after returning from 18 months out with a kneee injury
Keith Andrews is expected to join Ipswich in the coming days
While I would expect the likes of Shane Long, Robbie Keane and Darren Gibson all to be at different clubs come the end of the transfer window

I am predicting the following players to break into the Irish senior set up between now and next summer:
Brendan Moloney - Nottingham Forest
Chris McCann - Burnley
David Meylor - sunderland
While two more long shots could well be
Robbie Brady - Hull City (on loan from Man United)
& Shane Duffy - Everton (if injuries go his way and Jagielka is sold)
