Tyrone No Class
Tyrone secretary rues wasteful display against Dubs
Dominic McCaughey believes Tyrone had no one to blame but themselves for their surprise All-Ireland football quarter-final loss to Dublin last August.
In his report to next Tuesday's annual convention, the Tyrone secretary cites a tally of 17 wides as the reason behind the Red Hands' championship demise at the hands of what he describes as a "fairly modest" Dublin team.
"Tyrone were well prepared for this game and without any new injury worries, but on the day the team could not convert its scoring chances," he writes.
"While there were quite a few below-par performances, the wasting of scoring opportunities - a total of 17 wides during the 70 minutes - was the main factor in the elimination of the county from the All-Ireland championship in 2010.
"Many observers, with the benefit of hindsight, were of the opinion that Tyrone got its tactics for dealing with Dublin wrong in this game.
"It could be argued that the Croke Park woodwork and the rebounding of one ball into the hands of a Dublin forward (Eoghan O'Gara), who scored the only goal of the game, was the determining factor in its outcome.
"In the end, a fairly modest Dublin side had defeated Tyrone by five points to bring the 2010 season to an early conclusion."
We beat an average Tyrone side, with players that having got the legs anymore quiet easily..and this fool comes out with this statement....

He should recognise that Dublin won because they took their chances and played well. Equally mullins you should recognise that on the day Dublin got that slight bit of luck that helped them to beat Tyrone. There was very little between the teams on the day and the rub of the green (backed by a very good performance) saw Dublin win.
Your finishing comment would indicate that you are as classless in Victory as the Tyrone secretary is in defeat.

Re: Tyrone No Class
Stupid and inappropriate thing for an admin person to come out with. Obviously he isn't 'fairly modest' himself. He could have easily have had a cut at his own sides 17 wides without his comments about Dublin. But then some of these guys love their bit of limelight. I'd say MH and the players aren't happy with the comments either. For them so say something like that would be acceptable enough - though they wouldn't do it. For a pen pushing official to say it is out of order. Poor form.

I thought as much - I'd say his comments both about Tyrone themselves and his needless remarks about Dublin will go down like a lead balloon among the panel and management.

not so sure JC he's not the sort of guy to go looking for trouble (too timid for all that and more of a yes man) and i'd say the whole speech was run past MH before it hit the press - in fact MH might have written himself!!! Nothing happens in Tyrone football without MHs say so

almost get the impression MH sanctioned this to piss a few players off and get them motivated for next year. Maybe i am barking up the wrong tree completely

Re: Tyrone No Class
I don't think MH is the kind of man who would let someone in a blazer have a go at his team Boc - nor would he like another team's ability (or lack of!) commented on by same blazer.
At least the John C - the Dublin guy - had a go at the passion of the whole Int Rules team!!! Why pi55 off one county when you can do a lot more (incl your own) at once!

dont k now JC but its a long time since secretary was as vocal as this - quite surprised at it to be honest and cant help think there is a hidden agenda here - maybe they are looking rid of MH

That'd make more sense than the first theory Boc.

not sure about that JC - why would they want rid of a man who has brought such success to the county - county baords usually like to associate themselves with successful managers as opposed to the getting rid of them - it makes them look all high and mighty

Ah you know the way these things work - look at Mike Ashley . You'll find a load of politics as is the case everywhere and prob some who even feel MH has underachieved. Thats what people who never kicked a ball can be like! And didn't MH have a few run-ins with officialdom there cos he takes no ****. But there's prob nothing in it at all - just yer man feeling self important and being a numpty.

Boxty you couldnt have insulted me more had you tried - there is peopl ein this world i would aspire to be this man is well down the list. If i told you he was an ex-physics teacher that would give some insight into his persona - he makes the Norths Health Minister Michael McGimpsey look like a fooking stand up comedian if you catch my drift.................

His comments on the Tyrone FOOTBALLERS were the least contentious part of his report.
Did you read what he said about the HURLERS.
The man should be banned from the GAA sine die, forthwith..

Re: Tyrone No Class
Patrique, What he said about the Tyrone hurlers was more or less spot on. At club level hurling in Tyrone has improved but the county set up in 2010 was nothing short of a joke.
Bocerty - I too endured the current secretary as a physics teacher in CBS also and would agree that he certainly softened my view of Trillick in comparison to the guys who were winning county championships at the time. HIs points about the Tyrone/Dublin game weren't that far off the mark in fairness. On that day most of the Tyrone lads shooting boots were left at home but credit must go to Dublins defence who were very disciplined but at the end of the day we were knocked out by a fortunate goal scored by a guy who normally couldn't hit a cow in the ass with a banjo
If anyone has read the article in the Irish news regarding the financial report by county board Treasurer Michael Harvey it certainly has caused the most outrage amongst club officials for a number of reasons. One allegation being that he basically accused clubs of "hiding" money which was a bit rich coming from him as its a badly kept secret as to where the funds from the Golf classic in Carlton house end up. Off the fence in todays Irish news provided some well deserved backlash to Harvey's rant and will give him some food for thought before the convention occurs.

Re: Tyrone No Class
sorry mugsby o gara gave mc mahon the runaround that day and what would yous know about o gara as this is his first year he made the break through he should have got a nomination for an all star as he did make a big difference to dublin this year and played some great stuff , also tell me did dublin not kick any wides ? also dublin could have got a couple more goals but took points instead , now if you call kicking from fifty yards out and hoping for the best kicking wides well so be it , i was talking to a dublin player a while ago and he told me they knew they had tyrone beaten with half an hour left he said dublin could always step up another gear if wanted , but he said he is gutted now that they did not push on and beat tyrone by 12 or 13 points but maybe next year

Re: Tyrone No Class
Maybe Tyrone should just be excluded from the GAA for sheer unadulterated arrogance based on a 6 year period of some success.
No class, no heritage, no history.
The hurlers are seen as an embarrassment and a player from Dublin who appears to have outscored all the Tyrone players in a championship match is dismissed as useless.
Doesn't say a lot for what Tyrone have does it?

a spoofer of the highest order - in fact 2 spoofers. Why would anyone be gutted that they didnt win a game by 13 points. They might be gutted at not beating Cork - i doubt very much if they were that bothered at not beating Tyrone by more. And i would fail to see how they thought they game was over with 30 minutes to go when Tyrone were leading
O' Gara had a good enough game that day - previous games this year he was anonymous for large parts of games. Next year will tell the tale on how good he is or can be.

Re: Tyrone No Class
bocerty i would have thought a report on the future of tyrone football, is what this pleb should be bringing to the meeting..Why not ask, why you haven't brought any underage players through to this panel yet, after so much minor success or why hasn't minor transformed to u21..Anyway these reports should be kept in house..I think mickeys doing a great job same panel for next year -2..The only man ever to get quicker with time was linford christie and we all know how he did it..
