Niamh i have £20 on Derry to win Ulster - though with my luck in gambling i have probably jinxed them.

Beef or Salmon won ten Grade Ones, I'd be surprised if Hedgehunter even competed in five. Although, Beef or Salmon's highest OR was 171 and Hedgehunter 166 so there wasn't that much between them in the handicappers' eyes.

World Cup Preview
Saturday sees six million dollars go up for grabs in the world's richest race and hopefully a brilliant race and a brilliant meeting in store. I have nailed each of the past three winners (Electrocutionist, Invasor and Curlin) and also backed the previous two years' seconds (Premium Tap and Asiatic Boy) each way so I aim to keep my record going in 2009.
However unlike the last couple of runnings, there is no standout performer or superstar in the field.
As per usual, the Americans look to hold the leading chances. Albertus Maximus is favourite but even though he won the the BC Dirt Mile, he has never run well on the real dirt before. What he faced at Santa Anita is a lot different to Dubai and with doubts about the trip, he is a poor favourite.
Second favourite is the South African Asiatic Boy. I will hold out in the hope that there is one or two too strong for him. He has run well in Dubai before especially on the big night. His price is about right.
The Japanese runner has a chance too especially on his form in Japan. The real dirt seems to suit and he did not look happy on the cushion track in America. Well Armed was third last year but I don't think he's good enough.
The two I like are My Indy and Muller. My Indy is the Godolphin horse and he has improved enormously in a year. He has the right jockey on him and Bin Suroor will try to continue his domination of this race. Muller the Saudi Arabian could run a big race at a big price too. I am delighted to see his South African jockey back riding on the big stage where he belongs. Weichong Marwing is top class.
I'll tip:
1st - My Indy
2nd - Muller
3rd - Casino Drive

So the fact that a horse won more Grade 1 meetings than another horse competed in makes it a better horse? I've been a huge follower of both horses, Beefs owners come from a village near where i'm from, and in my view Hedgehunter is ahead of Beef every time.
People can quote all the stats they want, but everytime i have watched both horses i have never been disappointed in Hedgehunter, the same can't be said for Beef unfortunately. All personal views i know.
My pick for the win in the National this year, Butlers Cabin, short odds for the race at 12/1, but you can see why, right age, and a good weight to carry. Also, i like the look of L'Ami for some reason, again good age and weight. I'll wait until i see the definate list of jockeys for the race though.

All systems go for tomorrow night apparantly. This horse has been trained with this race in mind. Hopefully she will be good enough.
I told JC about her before so he will possibly know the horse I'm talking about.
I'll let the rest of you know in due course.

There is no case to saying Hedgehunter was better than Beef Or Salmon. One was a handicapper, the other a Grade One performer for about 5 years. I'm sure if Hedgehunter was good enough he would have been running in Gold Cups and Hennessys and Lexus' and winning them like Beef. But he wasn't. Horses that win the Grand National are ordinary enough (although, you do need an element of class to win most Nationals), horses that win Gold Cups are class, are rated in the 170s and lately the 180s. I would say Hedgehunter's best performance was coming second at Cheltenham behind War of Attrition but even then, that was an extremely weak race. Forget the Past finished third.
Also even though, Butlers Cabin has a low weight, I think he is extremely badly handicapped on most of his late form. I don't think he'll win it.

Friday 27th of March:
7.00 Dundalk
Kaitlins Joy
They honestly do not think she will be beaten. I have one or two fears but will still back her big. Fran the man riding her as well, thats a big plus.

Listen, bocerty, whatever anger you are feeling with me, I am feeling with the supplier of this tip. For the last four weeks, this horse has been a cert. Then tonight, I start getting told she's only 80% fit and things like this. They still had thousands on her but just not up to it, I'm afraid. From now on, I nly trust my own judgement.

Re: Tips/Predictions/Bets
Dublin native trains the winner of the World's richest horse race!
Well, before the race we were told, there was no superstar in the field but what we got was a performance that suggested Well Armed was something pretty special. And afterwards whilst Terry Spargor was shouting "From Cigar to Well Armed, its all over at Nad Al Sheba" etc etc etc, I thought this is further proof to the theory that racing is the number one sport in Ireland. Eoin Harty trained Well Armed to win this and for the first seventeen years of his life he lived in Dublin. His great-grandfather was a jockey and a trainer, his grandfather trained the winner of an Irish National and his father rode a Grand National winner. And more recently, his brother Eddie trained Captain Cee Bee to win at The Cheltenham Festival. So while this will be billed as another winner for the USA, its also an Irish wnner! And on the subject of Nad Al Sheba, I find it sad that this is the last race every to be held there but I shall look forward to Meydan, the racecourse built around a city in 2010.
The other races today were also spectacular. I look forward to this day more than any other in the racing calender and I wasn't disappointed today. Two Step Salsa, Regal Ransom, Big City Man, Gladatorious (superstar) and Eastern Anthem - listen out for them, they could all be world class.

Ya it's awful the way they used to pump money into the hurling side of things in Kilkenny and now look how underdeveloped the football is.

In my humble opinion the KK C/B can do what they like.
Would I mind if Leitrim had 31 hurling titles and no football team? Answer No.

Re: Tips/Predictions/Bets
Ah ya but it's very unfair that a county board can pump money into hurling while other counties have to do the same to two sports. It was giving the Kilkenny hurling team a better chance than any other county hurling team as they only had to develop the hurling side of things.
