TIPS AND TRICKS FOR THIS WEEKENDS ENCOUNTERS BY GM1996
Hello there
This weekend sees the qualifiers develop and so no
better way to look forward to them by looking at the previews by GM1996

SATURDAY 17TH JULY 2010
GAELIC
FOOTBALL
3PM CELTIC PARK, DERRY. DERRY V KILDARE LIVE ON RTE
With the
Lilywhites travelling over the border to the Walls of Derry to part take
in what hopes to be an exciting encounter, there is a recently roughly
settled Derry team on the cards mixed beliefs of many people surrounding
the likelyhood of Paddy Bradley featuring in Saturdays clash. Cassidy
has also decided to call up previously retired defender Sean Martin
Lockhart. Lockhart has been called up due to Kevin McCloy and Michael
McGoldrick both holding injuries. Armagh native Kieran McGeeney has
guided his side recently to wins over Antrim in a replay and Leitrim
both in qualifier phases. The Lilywhites however failed to show off
against Leitrim after an impressing win over the Saffrons. VERDICT:Derry
5PM CROKE PARK, DUBLIN. DUBLIN V ARMAGH LIVE ON TV3
Dublin
come on the back of very unsatisfactory performances with very few
positives able to be had from side that beat the division 4 side
Tipperary by 7 points in a team that no one is certain on who will play
where. Armagh boss Paddy O Rourke is not underestimating the Dubs in
what appears to be the most interesting encounter of the 4 Round 3
Qualifiers. 2003 was the last time these sides met and then it was a
great battle and it promises to be one on Saturday Evening too with Joe
McQuillan Refing. VERDICT:Armagh
7PM O CONNOR PARK TULLAMORE. OFFALY V DOWN
The Faithful
County are the home side in their attempt to keep the victorys flowing
after the 5 point win over Waterford last weekend. The Mourne County
bring to the midlanders a side not to be mistaken as being weak after
beating the joyful Longford by 4 points after Longford beating Mayo in
the 1st stage of the qualifiers. With the steward knocked out from a
bottle being thrown from the stands during the aftermath of the Louth V
Meath Game being Offaly native, hopefully Offaly wont be knocked out
literally or in the other meaning with Downs strong experienced players
such as Benny Coulter and the likes. Offaly captain Karol Slattery was
injured in the early stages of their previous game and it is hoped that
he is available for the Faithful county. Michael Duffy is the ref and
Down look like they should take a win here.
HURLING FIXTURES
3PM CROKE PARK, DUBLIN. DUBLIN V ANTRIM
The
Dubs welcome Antrim to Croker this Saturday after winning the Leinster
Under 21 title barely by scoring 2 goals in quick succession and Dublin
boss Anthony Daly would hope to keep the winning mode going to secure a
victory after last weeks surprising victory over Clare. Antrim go into
this clash as underdogs but will not go down with out a fight. The
saffrons have an unchanged side apart from Simon McCrory making an
appearance as Wing forward. Referee for this one is OFFALY Native BUT CURRENTLY RESIDING IN THE ON THE BANKS OF THE LEE,
Diarmaid Kirwan VERDICT DUBLIN
7PM SEMPLE STADIUM, THURLES. CORK V WATERFORD LIVE ON RTE
Ah
yes the munster counties for the second time flock to Semple Stadium to
witness what promises to be 70 minutes of non-stop action! The 37 year
old , Tony Browne saved Waterford scoring a goal in the dying moments of
the Game an action that manager Davy Fitzgerald was delighted about.
Fitzgerald also looks forward to Saturdays game anxiously hoping for a
win off Denis Walsh's side. Cork will be without their valuable asset
Sean Og O hailpin on Saturday due to a hamstring problem. Davy
Fitzgerald however has a full squad up for contention for Saturdays
clash in the Premier County. This will be an interesting encounter but I
think Cork are still likely winners. This will be a game full of
incidents and the man in charge of these shall be Brian Gavin
Sundays games to follow

There are wonderful facilities available on t'internet nowadays, as you might know. But weren't all them Kirwans of Offaly from the Ballyskenagh club? What, if memory serves me correctly, didn't Paddy Kirwan (Presumably Diarmuid's brother) score the longest point ever in champo history....*
I'm too busy at present to look it up but I'm sure you can organise a minion to do the leg work here....
* Well one of them at any rate...

SUNDAY 18TH JULY 2010
GAELIC FOOTBALL
ULSTER FOOTBALL
FINAL
2PM ST.TIERNACHS PARK, CLONES. MONAGHAN V TYRONE LIVE ON
RTE
This game on Sunday has a good hope that it will be a strong
encounter for the Anglo Celt Cup between a very experienced side and a
side that has proven that they hold great potential to go quite far in
this years championship. The last time that the Farney Men won the final
was 22 years ago beating Tyrone that day on a scoreline of 1.10 to
0.11. After beating Fermanagh and Armagh recently, Monaghan play the
same side that they bet in the League by a single point but the out come
could be different on Sunday. Tyrone's boss Mickey Harte has left out
Stephen O Neill for this all important Ulster final clash due to a heel
injury but he is hoping that he shall have O Neill on the bench. Tommy
McGuigan replaces O Neill Harte has also made a shake up with his
defence with debutant Cathal McCarron being 1 of Harte's 4 changes.
Otherwise Harte has named a mainly formidable side with long time Tyrone
Footballer, Brian Dooher starting wing forward beside Sean Kavanagh and
Joe McMahon. Monaghan boss Seamus McEnaney, brother of the great referee
Pat, has tried to keep down Monaghan's reputation to keep a calm side
ahead of Sundays tough battle. With David Coldrick refereeing this
battle intends to be nerve-wrecking and a win for Monaghan could very
well be on the cards but a draw would be unsurprising.
CONNAUGHT FOOTBALL FINAL
4PM MC HALE PARK, CASTLEBAR. ROSCOMMON V SLIGO LIVE ON TV3
An extraordinary encounter between both of these sides will take place
on Sunday as neither team can claim to be familiar with this situation.
Sligo have impressed many GAA followers since the start of their season
after beaten Mayo and Galway to reach to the top of the ladder and now
will fight the Sheep Stealers of Roscommon in a effort to bring home the
J.J. Nestor Cup to the Yeats county. Roscommon have and unchanged side
with full back captain Peter Domican to lead his side against the men of
Sligo. Sligo have 1 change from the side that bet Galway in the
Connaught semi final and that change is that Tony Taylor rejoins Stephen
Gilmartin in the middle of the field and Eugene Mullen moves back to
the bench. Ace forward for Sligo David Kelly has said that all their
wins against Mayo and Galway will be dashed away if they fail to win the
Connaught Final this weekend. Roscommon player Donie Shine also knows
well that they'll have to be at the top of their game to beat Sligo on
Sunday. With Jimmy White refing this 1 it seems that Sligo will take the
victory.
3.30 PM WEXFORD PARK. WEXFORD V CORK
With Cork Hurlers playing on Saturday in the Munster Final its a weekend of GAA
action for the Leesiders as they travel for the second time o'er the
banks of the Barrow to enter into the Slaneysiders residence. Conor
Counihans side remains unchanged for this clash after their hammering of
Cavan last weekend which led to the Breffni County's manager stepping
down. Cork's Paul Kerrigan was injured for that game but has been called
up to take a place on the bench since his recovery. Wexford have got to
the 3rd round of the Qualifiers by beating London impressively and
Galway quite surprisingly. Although Wexford are underdogs they are from
lackin in enthusiasm with ace goalkeeper Anthony Masterson from
Castletown on his toes for Sundays clash in Wexford Park, Clonard. The
last time both sides met was actually back in the last century when
Wexford won but Cork should see off the yellow bellies here.
HURLING
3.30 PM PORTLAOISE, LAOIS. OFFALY V TIPPERARY
With Tipperary not entirely impressive against Wexford in their last
encounter, could Offaly rattle the cage of The Premier County as the
supporters of both Counties flock to County Laois for a Phase 3
Qualifier Game. Tipp boss Liam Sheedy expects a bit of competition from
The Faithful County and he believes that his side can battle the green
white and gold. Offaly manager Joe Dooley also is eagerly awaiting the
Tipperary side as in his own playing career he never encountered the
Munster side. Offaly come on the back of a satisfactory result over
Limerick, only satisfactory as GAA fans expected a bit more from the
county after their thrilling performances against Galway. Tipperary need
to build up from their performance against Wexford to secure a quarter
final spot and their side see 2 changes. Paddy Stapleton and Paul Curran
are the ones brought into the backs. With John Sexton, the man from the
Rebel County, is refereeing and will most likely see Tipp come out on
top.
Thanking you
