Good piece by Brolly and similar to what Tom Humphries wrote - and I agree! Maybe we should start a petition!!

When they are signed by real people who are over the age of 12 they carry more weight ....

Re: New fence in front of The Hill
Brolly's article is dripping with the same exaggeration that he berates Cooney for. A poor way for an educated man to write an Article if you ask me. Nobody was trampled in a pitch invasion for 100 years of the GAA, yes and Tyrone didn't win an All Ireland for 119 years either. Would it be worth one person's life to allow fans to celebrate on the pitch?
It's about Insurance premiums, fine, let the GAA raise ticket prices to cover the difference and see can the supporters do without the pitch invasions.

Re: New fence in front of The Hill
I can't understand why they don't put a disclaimer on the ticket - if you enter the field of play then you do so at your own risk. Apparently there is legislation being considered which will in effect criminalise it. If you go on to the pitch should your team win an All ireland for the first time ever then you could end up with a criminal record!
I don't think Mr Cooney or the McKenna guy are being up front to be honest - and apparently claims are way down in the last year also. IMO this is about getting the Champions League/Heineken Cup presentation format - which will probably increase spoensorship revenue. On the pitch for a presentation is a tradition. If they wanted the GAA could make it safer by allowing controlled access from all gates instead of Plan A where stewards try to stop the flow and invariably give in -sometimes after an assault - culminating in Plan B!
Also there is no issue with thousands of fans leaving the pitch as well as the stands after a concert so that issue should not arise either!
ps Depending on where you are in the ground sometimes the Gardai/stewards force you away from where you want to go ie push you towards the NCR when you want to go to Clonliffe ....... stupid!

Re: New fence in front of The Hill
You can't just post a disclaimer resolving yourself from liability.. Courts are very strict when it comes to exclusion clauses.

Re: New fence in front of The Hill
True Js but I reckon if they printed it on tickets, announced it a few times at games and had large signs everywhere then it would mitigate hugely against claimants.

Do all GAA grounds not employ a disclaimer? I know Omagh does

Even trespassers are owed a duty of care, just the horrible litigious world we live in! The only way to stop it is legislation. Criminalise it, few high profile examples later and pitch invasions are over.

I don't think it's the issue that everyone is making it out to be.. I think if the players are against it (Which the GPA are) that it should be banned. To be honest if Cavan won the all Ireland I wouldn't care whether I was standing in the Hogan on the pitch or on my feckin' head so long as they won it.

Indeed I can see the headlines now.. And the "trying to take from our victory" response.. And the constant row that would go on about it on forums such as these forever more..

And if somebody, God forbid, gets crushed to death in the inevitable push in front of the hogan stand then it will be "tough sh1t, you entered the pitch at your own risk"???

This is where the snipers would come in. Pick off anyone attempting to climb the fence

Re: New fence in front of The Hill
I see a bull jumped into the crowd in Spain and injured a number of spectators. No doubt Christy and Peter will be now using this as a fine example for putting the fence up in front of the Hill! God forbid but a tractor and trailer could easily become unhitched on Jones Road and a bull could crash through the Premium Gate (that guy with the thing in his ear ain't gonna stop it!) - he could then wreck the Corporate Dining area - as a bull in a china restaurant should - and finally get on the pitch. No doubt he would head for the Hill - even though it is blue its denizens are - to some people - like a red rag to a ....bull. Thank God for the 2 metre fence!
ps Thomond Park have been told to erect fencing to prevent such an occurrence - at least til John Hayes retires!
