Re: Dublin GG News
first 10-12 minutes of this was awful P so many misplaced passed it was like DIV4 football, couldnt help but think of the comment you made last week about Dublins game being a level above the Tyrone game and was thinking to myself if this is a level above Tyrone and Donegal we are all fooked.
Both teams kicking balls down each others throats - really poor fare. But the way Dublin turned on the style reminded me a bit of the 2009 All Ireland Final were Kerry beat Cork. It was as if some sort of a call went out and suddenly everyone was on the same hymn sheet and playing the one game.
Impressive stuff by the Dubs but serious questions surround Kildare and their tactics they persisted with kicking high raking balls into the FF O'Connor and he never caught one in the first half at all.............

I was going mental at that stage!! I was tearing out enough hair to make Bald Eagle look like a hippy. Misplaced passes and two or three kicked straight at Kildare men. We wasted a mountain of possession at that time and did similar for 5 mins in second half. It will not be a good idea to turn over so much possession in the summer as it won't come back as easily. But as I said it is good to have a performance like that - lots of good but absolutely loads to improve on. No good scoring 4-35 in March!!
Kildare are not worth even analysing - they were muck.

Re: Dublin GG News
Discipline very good yesterday despite Kildare targeting Diarmuid Connolly and trying to wind him up. U21 defeat may turn out to be a blessing with McCaffrey, Kilkenny, Carthy and maybe a few others now available for the Seniors. People are already talking about peaking too soon and the like but the way I see it is that lads who are getting a blue jersey during the League are playing out of their skin ... just to get on the C'ship panel!

Re: Dublin GG News
Bit surprised at this but don't think there will be any problem getting a replacement!!!
Vodafone to end sponsorship deal with Dublin GAA team after championship
Three-year deal not to be extended
THE Vodafone logo will not appear on Dublin GAA jerseys from next season after the company announced they will be ending their sponsorship deal with county at the end of this year’s All-Ireland championship.
The disconnect button on the biggest team sponsorship deal in the GAA will be pressed at the end of this year’s championship campaign after telecommunications giant Vodafone – whose distinctive red “speech mark” logo has dominated Dublin jerseys since 2009 – informed the Dublin County Board they wouldn’t be taking up an option to continue its sponsorship.
Although the full extent of the commercial deal was never divulged, it is believed to be worth close to €1 million annually.
Vodafone’s decision to end the sponsorship deal at the end of the championship came after a recent review of the company’s sponsorship strategy and, coincidentally, fell on the day they announced they would be ending their Formula One sponsorship deal (worth €50 million a year) with McLaren.
Vodafone assumed sponsorship of Dublin teams at the end of 2009, after the long-standing sponsorship with Arnotts finished. Kaliber and National Irish Bank had previously sponsored Dublin teams.
The original deal was for three years, with the option of annual extensions. Vodafone took up their option for 2013 but, now, have given notice – and time – to Dublin’s executive to find a replacement. Vodafone will, however, remain on as an associate sponsor.
Certainly, in terms of brand awareness, Vodafone – who previously sponsored the All-Stars – couldn’t have asked for more from an association with Dublin that saw the county win the All-Ireland football title in 2011, a National Hurling League title in 2011, as well as enjoy All-Ireland successes at minor and Under-21 level.
In responding to the news, Dublin football manager Jim Gavin remarked: “It’s a matter for the executive and the management committee of the Dublin County Board.
“Vodafone have been great for Dublin football but it is an opportunity for somebody else to associate themselves with a strong brand.”
Andy Kettle, chairman of the Dublin Co Board, claimed the county was in a strong position to negotiate a new title sponsor.
“We will go to market in the summer to secure a new sponsor in the confidence that this is by far the strongest county brand and sponsorship property in the GAA and also one of the most coveted and high profile sports sponsorships in Ireland,” said Kettle.

was reading the other day that Diarmuid Connolly could be swapping his palce on the inside forward line for a place on the forward line 'inside'!!!!
Having pleaded guilty to an unprovoked attack which left his victim with a broken eye socket he is looking at a year long stretch in prison. A nice guy it seems whose temper troubles extend beyond the field of play................

Bocerty on fire today!
There aren't too many who plead guilty nowadays - must've been really concerned that he would have a spell in jail. Forum legal expert JS could advise better on this one, but I'd suspect he'll now get away with a fine and caution.
I don't suppose he is sponsered by Nike?....

Lots of people plead guilty, the courts need guilty pleas to be able to operate. Plead guilty, don't waste court time, show remorse and play the part of the solid GAA lad who lost the run of himself after a few too many. A heavy fine would be my guess. Who knows though maybe the judge will be a Meath man.

Let's hope the judge doesn't rattle Diarmo with a few tough verbals, or he's likely to kick off again!

Re: Dublin GG News
It’s been a really positive and productive League campaign for Dublin so far. Mixing the team all the time we have thrown up some really exciting looking prospects and options for the C’ship. Even in the last few weeks where Bernard, Rory O’Carroll, Ciaran Kilkenny and obviously Alan Brogan haven’t featured and with Cluxton rested and Paul Flynn injured and the Kickhams lads only back, those who have come in have done well eg Jonny Cooper at FB and Paul Mannion’s five point return last Saturday. Not sure I would see last two performances as the wheels coming off lol – wishful thinking.
As I see it Jim’s big problem will be trimming it to XV and keeping everyone happy! The level of competition within the squad will be intense and should only be good for it.

Being the conservative that I am and that has gotten me this far, I'd urge a note of caution here. Ye're doubtless dependant on Brogan the younger, Connolly may play this summer, he's talented if erratic in many senses, but ye're bust if they're contained.....
You can bluff and bluster all you like but the containment of Bernard will derail your ambitions. Surely genuine contenders like Tyrone, Donegal and Laois can countenance this, the rest don't matter.....

Dublin: Stephen Cluxton; Darren Daly, Rory O'Carroll, Jonny Cooper; James McCarthy, Ger Brennan, Jack McCaffrey; Michael Dara Macauley, Cian O'Sullivan; Paul Flynn, Ciaran Kilkenny, Diarmuid Connolly; Paul Mannion, Paddy Andrews, Bernard Brogan.
Not sure we have enough fire power here. If Bernard is off form where are the scores going to come from. Cluxton maybe. Hope Alan is fit soon.

I'm presuming that's sarcasm?! That looks like an extremely strong Dublin forward line to me. It will be good to see how Mannion fares out in the Championship. Looked top notch in the League.

Re: Dublin GG News
Dublin look very strong. I put together a second string team below to see what it would look like, it's probably the third best team in Leinster:
Shane Supple
Kevin O'Brien - Philly McMahon - Daragh Nelson
Chris Guckian - Nicky Devereaux - Kevin Nolan
Denis Bastick - Declan O'Mahony
Jason Whelan - Alan Brogan - Ciaran Reddin
Cormac Costello - Dean Rock - Kevin McMenamin
Off the top of my head I've left out Eoghan O'Gara, Bryan Cullen, Michael Fitzsimons, Shane Carthy, Craig Dias, Paddy Quinn, Philly Ryan, Tomas Brady and Emmet O'Conghaile.
Probably a few of them no longer involved / injured (Ciaran Reddin has fallen off the radar very suddenly?) but highlights the depth that these kind of players can be done without.
With the team named for tonight, the danger and it's obvious to everyone is if he's gone for too much firepower and not enough grafters. Shouldn't be a problem tonight but later on in the year it could turn out to be.
